LISA

The whole dance floor glowed with red and green laser beams that were shooting out from the rotating lights in the ceiling. It was a Saturday night and the club was parked with people dancing and jumping to the DJ’s throbbing music.

“What are we doing here Lisa?”

I read from his tab and my brows bumped together.

“Do you know where this is?” I asked teasingly.

OFCOURSE IT’S A CLUB

“wow! Thank God! Your memory is not that bad.” I replied . “I brought you here to loosen up. I want you to feel free and be yourself. Okay?”

His brows drew together in askance.

WHY?

I shrugged and returned to my beer. “Too much questions is not good for you Vincent.” Just then two ladies came to approach us. Their dusky gold skin glowed under the dim light.

“Hey, you are cute. How about a dance with the two of us?” One of them said to Vincent

He looked disturbed and faced me but I did as if I knew nothing.

“Take him girls

. He loves dancing a lot!” I said, signalling to his plastered nose.

Just like that, the ladies took each hand and led him to the dance floor, not without me squeezing the payment carefully and quickly into the  back pocket of their bump shorts. Vincent didn’t see me.

I took his tab so there was no way to converse. He looked as if he had been abducted. I almost laughed out loud.

“Dance with the girls baby!” I shouted at him and he threw me a deadly glare but I only raised my glass to him in a toast.

The music was faster and each girl was grinding him….

The scene was hilarious and I couldn’t stop laughing. So I signaled to a waiter…

“Please give that friend of mine this bottle of beer so he won’t die of heart attack.”

The waiter nodded and did as she was told.

Then I looked away as I spotted someone looking at me from the crowd. I didn’t come here to party, I was sure I was the only fully clothed lady in here so I just ignored him.

I had brought Vince here so he could loosen up and so that I could see how he reacts in places like this. So far, he wasn’t impressive. He must have been someone that never liked to party. Then it was so possible, he was in a relationship before it all happened to him. If that is the case, then his wife or girlfriend would still be somewhere…,what if he had a family….?

With the way he got connected to that little boy, there was a big chance he had a fatherly feeling before the incident.

If he does have a family, they must have moved on before him…

I put a hand to my pocket and brought out the picture I took six years ago when we had brought him home…

He looked so bad….his face was all burnt up and I could almost see his jaw bones….all the skin was gone, except for the underlying white tissue on his face. His nose was half burnt and his eyes were just…..I shut my eyes and put the picture back.

Vincent was my key to success but I would need to finish the whole job. My research would be completed once he gets his voice. No Nigerian doctor has ever been successful with replacement of Identity…dad was successful …we did it together and once he speaks his first word, I would fly to South Africa and present my achievement. I would finally break record and establish my name….I would be famous!

This is all messed up but it was for good!  Helping Vincent will help my career too! Dad doesn’t know that, if he does, he will not have allowed me to come with him….

I liked Vincent, I have started liking him ever since I started caring for him. He was the only guy I have ever been close to, apart from my father. I didn’t like getting close with other men, they were always after one thing-your body!

He isn’t after my body! He was my achievement and looking at him sometimes fills me with this pride…

I made that guy and I gave him life…not like life-life..of course I am not God! But he could have died. God used me and my father for him. So I own him! He is mine! He is here to start a new life and not to hook up with the old one! Randy said he needs to be happy, we will find something to make him happy….

I dialed a number and began to walk out of the club.

“Hello Shrek, Its me , Lisa.

NARRATOR'S POV

Some minutes later. Lisa stood by the road side and a black Lexus pulled over. She walked to the car and got to the front seat.

The driver was in a black hoodie and he had a cigar in between his lips. His face was also covered in a big dark glasses….He handed Lisa a file and she began to go through it.

 “So Twenty thousand deaths were recorded through out 2017 here in Abuja?”

“Yep.”

“SO how many were in the month of August?” She asked, flipping the pages.  There were lots of pictures.

“16 thousand.” The man replied.

“Any from fire?” She asked again.

“Three hundred.” He replied.”When you get home you can go through the names…I have their pictures as well…but that picture of a burnt out guy you gave me. I narrowed it down to those with same bone and facial structure…I found two matches. One was mark Azeez, Daniel Douglas, Mattew Donga and Fred Benson.”

She looked up immeadiately….”That Fred Benson. Please, find out everything tomorrow and report to me first thing.”

“You know how much that will cost you….?”

“Money is not a problem….”

GEUN GEN!!! So Lisa is narrowing the whole thing down! Let's not forget that Anika heard her husband asking one of the guards to find out about Vincent as well. Hmm....I'm getting scared of my characters seriously. But quick thinking, do you actually think, Lisa is right to say she owns the poor guy , well, she did save his life but does that justify her hold over him...? let me know what you think..
