When A Man Wants - Episode 14

 

VINCENT

I have no idea but I have done this before….i have drawn this picture before…it was all so easy…..

It was more easier when I closed my eyes and I let my hand do the magic….it was like I was seeing a picture in my head… a picture that I couldn’t recognize but that my brain could relate to…it was so easy…..

Each morning I wake up with this urge...its been more than a week now...I always had one thing to put down, on different boards though.

I had woken up this morning with this urge to continue painting that picture …a picture that is so deep down in my memory and that I couldn’t even describe…

It was like meeting a friend whom you could hardly remember how and where you had met but you knew there was this connection between you too. So that even when you couldn’t picture them, there is this wave of familiarity over you…does that make any sense at all?

I drew on….with my eyes closed….

It was like a music was floating throughout my entire being….a music that only I could understand the lyrics even if it was in an unknown language…

“Vincent! Hurry up!”

Lisa’s voice from the living room snapped me out of the world I lost myself into . Afraid of spoiling the whole magic or whatever I could be feeling that moment

. I stood up and opened the door, fighting the urge to look at what I just drew…I rolled what I drew that had no meaning to me and folded it with the others that remained. Tying them all together with a ribbon, I left my room.

“You should take  that shirt, it looks good on you.”

I was startled as I heard Lisa’s voice.

What happened to privacy! I screamed in my head.

“Why are you looking at me like that? Oh! You were expecting me to give you some privacy? Look baby, I have seen all those things you are covering up so….”

Before she could finish I threw the other shirt on her head and covering her face while she struggled to take it off, I dragged her out of my closet.

I knew she was enjoying the whole play and so was I.

The truth is, I was beginning to get more comfortable with her. We were supposed to go out together, again, for the third time this week but I was having issues selecting cloth.

Well, she had said that the skye-blue T-shirt was good on me so I would take that.

Some minutes later, I was driving while she applied her mascara, looking at herself in the side mirror.

Her hair was packed high on top of her head, and in each of her earlobes were two beautiful diamond earrings.

Lisa said I needed to move around more probably to boost my memory and I could remember some things As far as I can tell, I only enjoyed each moment spent in fancy restaurants, no memory came to mind though.

“Okay, make a right turn.” She said and I did.

“By the way, daddy said you should chat him up later.”

I nodded. I would do that.

Some minutes later, we were seated at a table, eating and taking Lisa’s pictures simultaneously. She loved me taking her picture, she said probably I was a photographer but I knew that wasn’t possible…I just knew.

Now she was smiling and holding the spoon to her lips, starring at the camera while I took more pictures of her. Then she beckoned to the waiter…

I already had it in mind that I wouldn’t let her pay for the food this time. I wanted to start working and fend for myself, depending on her has been uncomfortable for me. Even though she wouldn’t allow me to do that, I knew I got to do what I needed to do and there was only one way of doing that.

An idea came to my mind..it was stupid but It was sudden….likeI have done this before..

The waiter came to give her the bill and she began to go through it..as she did so, I took her wallet.

“What are you doing Vince?”

I typed on my tab and showed her. 

I AM DOING THE PAYMENT THIS TIME..

She hissed and shook her head. “With what?”

I bent slightly to the left and brought out the rolled boards, then handed them to her.

Atfirst, she looked at me as if I was stupid and she began to unwrap them one by one.

"Oh! Is this a puzzle?"

I shrugged. I had no idea.

Surprisingly, she laid all the boards separately on the table  so that different squares became a whole rectangle. All the different pictures that made no sense to me a while ago all came together to reveal a beautiful lady who was attending to people ...in a restaurant...her back was turned and she wasn't looking. A side of her face was covered by her long hair....again...i could feel that wave of familiarity wash over me....

 The waitress gasped when she saw the drawing…

“Oh my God! Where did you get this picture?”

Lisa and I exchanged glanced and she stood up to see what was on the board….she didn’t look pleased.

“This was like ten years ago when the restaurant was still coming up. Look!" She pointed to a corner of the room that had the symbol of forks and spoon...it is also in the board..

" And...and we had Anika here….she …she..someone has drawn this picture before….was it you?”

I was dumbfounded. What was she talking about? Then I stood up and checked the board…that was when I realized….

“Do you know who the person is?” Lisa asked the waitress who nodded excitedly  but before she could say anything further..Lisa coughed.

. Yanked her purse from my grip and handed the lady her card. Then she grabbed the card from her .

“Let’s go Vincent!”

I was confused and I could sense that Lisa was really angry….

Some minutes later we were in the car…

“What is wrong with you? Why are you drawing Anika’s picture and when did you even start drawing? Why didn’t you tell me? What is wrong with you Vincent?”

I didn’t know what to say. I didn’t have any explanation for that so I just grabbed my tab…

COULD IT BE A MEMORY?

She looked at what I typed and looked away, shaking her head. “It happens. Its possible that your memory is trying to come up with something in the past and you are stuck with the present. So instead of seeing the past , your brain keeps bringing you to the present. I won’t be surprised if you draw me or Tommy, or my daddy or that little boy next. We need you to concentrate on the past not the people you are meeting now….also, how come you are drawing? We need your speech not your paintings!”

I felt bad after hearing this. I had actually thought that I was making an headway but….Anika was in the painting…how come my brain recognized her and nobody else….?

I sighed. This was so useless…..but then I remembered, I hadnot collected the painting from the waitress….

I checked my tab to type and tell Lisa..

“I can’t check anything right now Vincent, I need to concentrate or you will get us both killed…..”

After hearing that, I cleared what I wrote and put down the tab….something was off with Lisa. She was too bothered about the painting or is it about ….Anika?
