When we got to the changing room….Loreta pulled me to a corner….
“Is everything okay Loreta?” I asked.
“A guy was here….” She said, looking serious…
“Which guy?”
“He left not quite long.”
I was confused.
“So, what is my business with that?”
“He gave me this….” She said , bringing out what looked like cardboards…. Containing different and separate sketches….
I collected them from her, still a bit confused….
“What is this , Loreta? I don’t understand and I don’t want to keep my family waiting….”
“Do you remember Fredrck?”
I felt a sharp pang somewhere in my tommy as I heard the name…
“Fredrick..my Fred?”
She nodded.
“How could I forget him?” I said . “He’s dead, what about him?”
“Do you remember the picture he gave you then, which he used to pay for his food?”
I had no idea where this was going to.

“Listen to me.” She snapped at me, collected the boards from me and scattered them on the floor. Then she squatted and began to arrange them as if it’s a puzzle and to my amazement…it was the same picture that Fred had given to me…
I bent down slowly and stretched my hand to the picture….my face, my nose, my eye, my hair….it was so real and so….new…
“Did you make this? I didn’t give anyone that picture.

. I kept it.”
She sighed. “ A man brought it today to make a payment…like the other time…”
Maybe I didn’t hear that correctly.
“Is this a joke?”
Loreta looked surprised. ‘This is real Anika! I don’t know him and I don’t know where he came from but he came with a lady and they left hurriedly…”
“Oh my god!” I could feel tears gathering again…who did this..who was playing tricks on me…?
Just then, my phone started ringing and I realized Tommy was calling.
I tried to breathe in steadily and then cleaned my face. I packed the boards with me and rolled them. Then I put them in my bag.
I am okay…I am okay..i am okay
“Thank you so much Loreta, I will do something about this. Please if the man comes again. Kindly call me. Please!”
She nodded and taking a pen from her breast pocket, I scribbled my number on her palm…
I remembered there was a mirror close by so I quickly checked my face, hugged Loreta and quickly left the place…..

NARRATOR'S POV
It was very quiet in his study. He was busy with the painting….and he was getting frustrated….
How come he didn’t remember the portrait again….he just saw it earlier today and now….he flung the brush into the brush pan and placed his hands to his head.
He really wished he could actually do some nice painting by himself…and not depend on other people’s work…but …he couldn’t. Ofcourse, no one knew that....each person whose work he used always had to die one way or the other..so he had no reason to be afraid of anyone coming to claim anything,,,
One of the guards came to him….
“Sir….you said to report to you after following the ladies. I recorded everything. Would you like me to play it?”
The boss nodded slowly and the guard took out his recorder…
“Is everything okay Loreta?”
“A guy was here….”
