Twisted Twice, Twisted Mine - Episode 35

 

Vance.

Here I am, in a beautiful mansion, with a spread of various delicious dishes in front of me and the topmost thought on my mind is murder. 

I'm wondering how to get away with murder.

How do I get away with murder? Is it simple? Will I eventually get arrested? As it is now I don't find my self caring because I so really want to kill this bloody step brother of mine.

"Louis told me you got yourself a pretty girl" My father says and I turn to Louis, did Louis tell him that? Oh?

I drop my fork and I turn to the old man, he looks as if he is about to drop dead  anytime soon, but I know it's all an act, it's part of the mind games he plays with us, with me.

When Louis told me the old man wanted to have a family dinner today I had been cautious, good thing too, because I can smell one of his schemes, it reeks. 

Louis kicks my leg and I raise my head to look at him, when did we become this close? Again I'm asking. 

He nods his head towards my father and I remember I was asked a question. 

"I don't want to answer you father" Louis's mother almost chokes on her wine and a smile almost breaks from me. 

I swallow It. 

Die, b*tch. 

"Oh, Vance, why so rude?" She asks o her real housewives of hellfire voice and it takes everything in me not to flip her off. 

"Son.. You know it would bring me so much joy if you are in a relationship, you are Twenty Nine, it's about damn time" He says and I drop any semblance of civility I was tryna pass off. 

"Damn time for what? Get married? Impregnate an innocent and f*cking abandon her?" I ask in a cold voice, no use getting angry, he likes it. 

"No cussing on my table" Diana, b*tch from hell says and I light into her. 

"B*tch, it's not your table, it's my mama's, you don't like it? Get the f*ck out" I say and I can hear my accent loud and clear. 

She sputters and Louis holds her down. 

"That's enough mum" He says, wise man, he knows I'm on a war path. 

I turn to my father. 

"I don't have a girl, a woman or even a lover, yeah? We clear on dah?" I ask, my voice dripping my American accent and a thick wallop of sarcasm. 

He nods, wiping his mouth with a table clothe and from the corner of my eyes I see Diana throw him a look. 

She wants him to come to her rescue, sorry b*tch, he's only known for throwing people to the wolves. 

Like he did to my mother. 

I continue to look at him and he stares back and in his eyes I see it, oh hell, he has a plan. 

I know, oh I know I'm not gonna like it.

"Well it's too bad you don't have a woman..." He starts and I brace myself.

. I had wanted to hand out your mother's heirlooms, I'm sure it would fetch a lovely price if I sell them" 

I freeze, those heirlooms were my mother's pride, she protected them with so much love and care, it was handed to her by her mother and her grandmother before that. 

Her last wish had being for her to hand them to my wife, she had died, unfulfilling that promise. 

So this was his game, dangle the last bit of connection I had to my mother in front of me and watch me crawl back? 

"But honey, I thought you were going to pass them to me?" Diana whines and my father turns dead eyes to her. 

"That's enough Diana" He says and she shrinks back, Louis's jaw locks. 

Over my dead, cold body will Diana get her hands on my mother's jewelries, over my dead body. 

I paste a smile on my face and turn to the old man, he wants to play this game? This game will be played. 

"So.. You got me, I can't believe secrets can't be kept from you" I say and he smiles his own fake smile. 

"I know my son, you are just as I was when I was young" he says and my smile wavers. 

I'm nothing like you old man, nothing like you. 

"Bring her to dinner soon, I will be handing out the jewelries to her, she must be a beauty" 

He says and I nod, yes, let the game begin.

Adee. 

I roll around on the ground waiting for my phone to ring, it doesn't. 

Did he forget about me? 

Is he busy? 

It's been 3 days, should I call him? 

But he asked me not to call him, does that mean he didn't want to disturb me? 

Even Levi didn't bother to call and apologize, what a loser. 

It's a good thing mum and dad were out of town when this happened, I would have had a lot of explaining to do. 

I roll some more and I almost jump out of my skin when my phone rings. 

I pick up the phone and I breath in excitedly. 

"You called" I say in an almost whisper and he pauses. 

Was that a wrong thing to say? Is he going to end the call now? 

"Don't end the call, I'm sorry I said that" I say hurriedly 

"I'm not going to end the call cat, it's nothing to be sorry about" He says and his voice is soft and it feels like there's butterflies in my stomach. 

"I'm glad you called" I say softly and he pauses again. 

He clears his throat before he speaks. 

"Text me your address, I'm going to come pick you" 

"Really?" 

"Really" 

"OK"  I say, going to disconnect the phone. 

"Adélie?" 

"Yes?" 

"Rule 4 of being a grown woman, you only answer the phone in that tune of voice when you are talking to your lover" He says softly and the butterflies in my stomach returns. 

"Okay" I say. 

"Okay?" He asks. 

"Okay..." I repeat before adding"...What's a lover? " I ask and he pauses before chuckling. 

"Just text me your address Cat"He says before disconnecting.
