Twisted Twice, Twisted Mine - Episode 39

 

Adélie

I trudge down stairs and I'm shocked when I see pancakes on the counter, what?

Is mom and dad back?

I wipe at lips and try to straighten my hair, I want to at least look presentable to them, it's been ages since we last saw.

It's been like that since i lost Addie, they've told me that it's nothing and I shouldn't blame myself but I find myself doing so.

I try to make sure they see me as little as possible because I'm sure its heartbreaking for them to see a face identical to their lost child. 

We leave notes for each other and it works just fine because they leave in the main house and you have to actually look for a person in my house before you see them. 

I pull on my nightgown, I should remember to tell mom In my next note. 

My socks don't make a noise as I pad to the table and pick a fork to take a bite. 

"Mom?!" 

"And that's how I would have drugged you, hit you over the head and kidnapped you" A voice says behind me and I gasp, a hand flying to my chest, I turn around and I feel my hands trembling. 

It's Vance, he's standing there with a smile which melts and turns to concern when he sees my expression. 

He does not know, I try to remember this, he does not know that I don't play with jokes like kidnapping, he doesn't know its a gray area for me. 

"Adee? Are you alright? Did I scare you that much?" 

He asks and I shake my head, I'm fine, I'm fine, I'm fine. 

I clear my throat before speaking. 

"How did you get in?" 

"You left your door open" He says and I can hear the disapproval in his voice. 

"Oh" 

"I remember telling you to close your door at night" 

"Well, I forgot" 

"You forgot?" He asks, and I'm getting that was the wrong thing for me to say, it's been a week since he came to drop me off and I've been waiting for his call, he texts me to make sure I'm alive or he sends safety precautions but that isn't enough for me.. 

I'm partly glad he's here and partly pissed that it took him this long to get here 

"I didn't mean to, I thought I heard a noise so I came to investigate, it was nothing" 

"You heard a noise and you left the door open?" 

"I told you, i forgot" 

He sighs, closes his eyes, bites his lip ring, rolls his centurion rings and turns away from me. 

He does this simultaneously so I know he must be pissed and trying to get himself together. 

He turns. 

"It's appaling how you out yourself in danger, you are a single girl living alone in a big house in a bad world, you don't even bother hitting the lights out switch at night, the house is a blazing beacon for anybody and now I've found out you don't lock the door? Do you know how easy it would have been for me to come in the house, get into your room and do something bad? "

He asks with frustration. 

" Well, nothing bad happened and you didn't come into my room" I say sitting on the bar stool and eating my breakfast. 

"How can you be so flippant about this stuff right now?" He asks. 

"Why are you so concerned about this stuff right now?" I ask back. 

"Humanitarian Service!" He almost growls. 

"Well Mr. Human activist I've been living just fine on my own, I didn't die" 

"Well I'm here now, I don't want you to go on living like that" This makes me pause, I don't know why I'm pissed at him.

. Wait I know, he didn't call me for one week, I'm not pissed at that, I'm pissed that I care. 

"What do you mean by that? Wait, do you pity me?" He frowns confused. 

"What? No!" 

"Then what did you mean by that?" 

"I.. I... Don't even know, so don't ask me" 

"You don't know?..." I open my mouth to continue but he takes 4 steps to me and we are so close I almost swallow my tongue. 

He bends and we are so closer than before that I could almost see the silver in his eyes, it's shiny, I bite my tongue so I don't exclaim. 

"Where you always this feisty?" He asks. 

"Feisty?" 

"The first impression you throw is timidity, how come you sound like a diva right now?" 

"What's a diva" 

"How come your night gown is so short?" He drops the previous subject, throwing me off. 

"Well, I don't know, maybe because I am in my house?" I answer. 

"Why are you wearing SpongeBob socks?" 

"He is my favorite cartoon character" 

"Why are your eyes so dull?" He asks and this time in a low voice, I don't want to answer so I just lean back, he stands straight, leaning against the counter. 

"How come you know I don't switch off my light at night?" I ask, changing the subject. 

"I drive by every night" He says, looking away and I bite my lip when I feel those things in my stomach again. 

It immediately makes me feel better that he didn't call. 

"Why?" I ask softly. 

"Because.. Because you are my person now, I don't want you hurt on my watch" 

I feel the smile coming so I stuff my face with pancakes. 

"Cat, you can smile, no need to do that" He says and I can hear the laughter in his voice. 

I chew and swallow and I smile a closed lip smile and he brings up his hand to wipe off maple syrup from my face before licking it. 

"I knew you were gonna like the pancakes and that's why I brought some over" He says and I nod. 

"Eat and go get dressed, we are teaching you how to drive today" He says before adding. 

"No need to gulp down the pancakes Cat, I'm all yours for today" He says again and I wonder how possible it would be for me to make these pancakes disappear. 

AN. 

So,i like how they fight and immediately make up, it's different.
