The Twist - Episode 8

 

Amaka picked a piece of chicken with a fork, stirred it in a cream sauce and put it in her mouth.

She watched Stella who was equally enjoying her own meal opened a bottle of champagne Jake placed in front of them a while ago and poured a generous quantity in both glasses.

"So you mean out of the whole men in this Lagos the only person you picked was this waiter?"

asked Stella as she took a sip from her glass.

"Stella, I knew it sounds odd but I think he will make a perfect partner. All these gold diggers patrolling the streets of Lagos are highly dangerous and I don't want a gigolo"

Amaka answered.

She turned sideways and looked at Jake Polishing the counter.

His muscles moving in a slow ripples under his tight fitting shirt and Amaka felt a wave of tingling pleasure flowed all over her body.

Stella followed her gaze and smiled.

"You really fancy him . Anyway he isn't a bad choice after all. only that I am conscious of his class.

After the incident where Mark abandoned her the other night in the sitting room, Amaka had confided in her friend Stella who approved of her decision.

Stella really felt for Amaka, for a married lady to stay upto 9 months without making love to her husband isn't funny at all.

They had planned to come and dined there so Stella could see Jake.

Amaka straightened up, picked her glass of wine and walked up to the counter where Jake pretended to be busy.

He knew these ladies were discussing about him because he can even felt their eyes on him.

He had felt uneasy the moment they walked in because only yesterday; Amaka had transferred 50,000 naira into his account.

For doing what? Jake wondered.

He needed the money badly but at the back of his mind, he knew this fat lady is up to something.

He couldn't reject the money.

Not when she gave it to him willingly.

"Hello Jake, you are having a quiet day."

Amaka said as she settled on the counter.

"There is still time. the rush hour starts from 1pm"

Replied Jake.

He tried as much as possible to appear at ease.

"How would you like to work for me Jake?"

Amaka asked him calmly and sipped her drink.

Here it comes, I knew it! Jake thought.

"But I can't quit here. I just got this job recently"

he replied carefully.

"Nobody is asking you to quit. It will be a simple job and I will pay you handsomely."

Jake thought about this.

If she can disposed of 50,000 naira just like that, then this lady's worth working for.

Besides, his salary here is only 15,000 naira a month.

But he need to know the type of job before committing himself.

"Well, since I am going to keep my job, I will like what exactly you wanted me to do for you"

answered Jake.

Amaka smiled.

A careful man.

She reasoned and she liked that.

"I don't think this will be the ideal place to discuss it. How about your house?"

Jake thought about his rat hole of a room located in a slum and quickly shook his head.

"No, Can't we meet some other place?"

"Where do you live?"

Amaka queried.

"At No. 3 William street Orile."

Jake answered after sometime.

"You mean you come here all the way from Orile everyday?"

"Yes. The restaurant opens around 9am so before 10am I am here"

replied Jake.

Amaka made a quick calculation.

"How would you like to own a flat in this vicinity?"

Amaka asked him and Jake laughed.

"Wait, can you just tell me why you are doing all this?"

"It is part of the job. Anyway, I will make the necessary arrangements. Get ready to pack into your new house soon"

Amaka said and walked back to her chair.

Jake sat down and began to think.

Whatever this lady is up to, it will surely land a lot of money in his pocket because paying him handsomely certainly means 6 figure income.

But the problem is the job itself.

Is she planning to murder someone? No, she will go to hire killers if she wanted to erase someone.

He is willing to do anything for money as far as it is not murder.

He knew it has something to do with intimacy.

He had seen them giggling while stealing quick glances at him.

And those s-ductive moves! Well, he needed money.

He can do with a lot of it now he has the opportunity.

He watched them stood up.

Amaka dropped a bundle of 200 notes on the table.

"Keep the change. I will give you a call later."

Said Amaka.

Jake watched them leave.

They entered the gleaming Rolls Royce coupé and drove out.

He shrugged and picked up the money.

He had nothing to loose...
