The shrill sound of a distant whistle from the early morning trainers at the mini stadium woke Mark up.

He lazily opened his eyes, quickly felt a stinging headache and closed his eyes with hope it will ease the pain but the pain increased.

He groaned and held his head with both hands.

His head was feeling hot.

The bile in his throat made him to spit on the tiled floor.

He looked around the room and noticed he was in the guest room.

A female handbag was resting on the small table.

What is Amaka's handbag doing here? He thought.

He stood up to enter the kitchen for a glass of water and winced.

It was as if a big mallet was banging a slow rhythm in his head.

He held the bed post for support.

As he stared at the handbag, his eyes caught a pair of sandals by the bed side and a red pant by the door.

He stared at the pant with confused mind and slowly recollected what happened last night.

What the hell! He could not believed he just r-ped a girl in his own apartment.

What if she had gone to call the police, such scandal will make headlines in the morning papers! What is he thinking sleeping with a stranger in his own house? He looked around for the girl, checked the toilet and then moved down to the kitchen.

She was there beside the big gas cooker crying softly.

Her palms covered her face.

Mark sighed with relief.

He stood there by the door and watched her cry.

She must have been crying all night for her cheek was red and the remains of her short nightie gown was soaked with tears.

Mark quickly regretted his actions.

He wanted to go and console her, tell her how sorry he was, say nice things to her, promise her heaven and earth, buy nice gifts and maybe give her some cash.

But who's she? Probably a new maid. Such a kinky and sweet maid.

He must have been out of his mind forcing her to bed.

He checked the small clock in the kitchen and the time was 6:30 am.

He need to do something.

What will be the best approach after what happened last night? Mark pondered this in his mind.

"Daddy!"

Startled, Mark turned around and saw his daughter Chidimma.

She hugged him and Mark carried her up in his arms.

"My angel, when did you came back?"

"Yesterday evening, I was left all alone with Auntie Ruby"

Replied Chidimma.

"Auntie Ruby? Where is she?"

Mark asked stupidly and quickly glanced at the crying figure inside the kitchen.

It downed on him that the innocent girl he slept with last night was his daughter's guardian! Damn it! He hurriedly carried Chidimma to the sitting room.

"Daddy did you came back with mummy?"

"No baby, she will be inside the room"

"She is not there, I checked."

Insisted Chidimma.

Mark sat on the couch and placed her on his thigh.

"Mummy must have gone out early to get some breakfast for us"

Mark said to distract his brilliant daughter.

Chidimma was their only child and Mark loved her more than any other thing.

He had quarrelled with Amaka when she insisted on taking her to a boarding school at such a tender age with a well trained guardian to look after her.

But after thinking of their constant quarrel, Mark realized it will be a good idea to take the kid out of the picture.

It will help both of them in coping with the present situations they found themselves in.

Chidimma was looking at him smiling.

"Daddy, I saw your picture

Laughed Chidimma.

"Where?"

Asked Mark smiling.

"Mummy was looking at some of your pictures. I saw the one you were n-ked with somebody on the bed."

If a boxer had landed a heavy punch on Mark's face, he would have preferred it than the electric wave that hit him and swirled his brain that moment.

How could he be so careless? What on earth is happening to him? Now he did not only have the blackmailers to think about but his marriage as well.

So Amaka had seen the pictures? Mark began to tremble.

He could not imagine his wife looking at such a disgusting pictures! Where is She? He dropped Chidimma and ran to their bedroom.

The sight of the neat bed told him she did not slept in that house last night.

Had she gone to show the pictures to her father? He will be sunk if his father in-law see the dirty pictures! He wanted to ran outside to ask Bashir if Amaka told him where she went to when his cell phone began to ring.

He left it with his car key on the liquor cabinet.

He walked towards the phone with quick stride and glanced at the screen.

It was Dr. Uche.

He picked the call.

"Hello Mark, have you called the commissioner?"

"Not yet, I will do that now. Thanks for reminding me."

He cut the the call.

"Daddy what are you looking for?"

Asked Chidimma curiously

"Nothing sweetheart, go to your room and sleep OK?"

"Where is auntie Ruby?"

The little girl asked and Mark turned swiftly.

He had forgotten about the girl.

"Go to your room ok? I will get her to look after you"

he told Chidimma and guide her towards her room.

He rushed to the kitchen but the girl was no longer there.

He checked the visitors room but the sandals, handbag and even the underwear were no where to be found.

Had she left? Had she finally gone to the police? She had no clothes on for crying out loud! Mark rushed out of the house.

Bashir was Polishing his military boots when he saw his boss.

"Good morning Sir"

he greeted Mark.

"Did any girl left this compound?"

Mark asked

"Yes sir, she left a few minutes ago"

Bashir replied.

"What is she wearing?"

"She was putting on a jumpsuit when came out from the backyard with her hand bag. I was surprised. When I asked her she said she is coming back"

Said Bashir.

With the police no doubt.

Mark thought.

Will he go to the commissioner to close the case and tackle the blackmailers as well or is it better for him to surrender himself to his father in-law? Where is Amaka? Mark decided he must go and see the commissioner first and wait for his wife's call.

He rushed back to his house to get his car key...
