William:
"Hey! In a hurry to ditch us huh?! " Peters snicker, slapping me lightly across my shoulder but I don't stop my hurried steps out of the class. We'd just finished listening to Mrs Smith zone on and on about choosing the right career and school in the upcoming jamb examination. Everyone's expecting me to enroll and ace the exam like I always do . If they only knew.
"let him be. He's obviously trying to get to his girlfriend before her driver pick her up. He's obsessed." I hear Jerry, my best friend say jokingly. I'm sure he's rolling his eyes, clearly exasperated by my obsession with Dawn. He's the only one who knows the big reason why I'm not supposed to be breathing the same air as her but can you blame me? She's the prettiest girl in the whole of St Michaels secondary school and that's saying something. St Michaels is a school for the affluent. Everyone looks good here. Even I try not to look too shabby, it's hard though.
"Going somewhere handsome?" Dawn's pretty voice greet my ears as I turn the corner to the art class room. She's smiling beautifully at me and I swoon. Jerry's right, I am obsessed.
"Dawn." I say her name on a relieved breath of air. She wasn't in school for the whole of this week

. Knowing how things are at her house, got me super worried.
"I know you are going to rant about how worried you were Liam but can we please go somewhere private?" She whisper before I can get another word out. I see how nervous she looks and notice a few of her classmates staring at us so I grab her hand and pull her towards the empty class where we always met after classes or during recess to be alone. We have also shared a lot of stolen kisses here. As soon as we enter the slightly dark room Dawn push the door close with her foot before pressing me to the door.
"I missed you." she whisper as she wrap her hands around my waist and rest her head on my chest. This used to make me feel really content but not today. Today I feel like the world's on my neck and the lump in my throat as a result of last night's disastrous event now felt like a big bone stuck there.
"Hey, you okay?" dawn ask when I don't reply and move a muscle. I look down at her but don't know what to say. I should tell her. But how do you tell the love of your life that you won't be taking the jamb exam both of you have been planning on taking together for so long because you won't be able to afford it anymore? How do you explain your lack of money when you are the supposed son of Chief Williams. I am supposed to be the heir of the Williams fortune but then that's my big secret. I'm just the illegitimate son who hates the Williams for abandoning my mom. Now all she does is drink and curse at my dad. This is precisely why I'm at this school on a rare scholarship. I am determined to make it without my father's help and proof to the Williams that I can survive without their wealth. I've never accepted anything from them and the nineteen years of my young life has been spent living in the slums with my mother. Everything was going as planned for me. I am in St Michaels without getting picked on because they thought I was rich like them. I thought my dreams of being a doctor would be achieved once the result of the college scholarship exam came out but imagine my shock when Williams real heir came to our house last night with his evil mother and tore up my application for the scholarship. Turns out she's on the scholarship board. All my dreams came falling down at my feet along with the torn pieces of my application form.
"Liam, are you okay?" Dawn's question brings me back to the present as she brush off the stray tear on my cheekbone.
"I'm fine." I whisper as I turn my face away from her. I can't let her see me crying.
"I just missed you, it's all. " I say then turn around to give her a small smile.
"well I missed you too babe. Mom just needed a companion on her trip to Dubai." she say and I nod. Of course knowing dawn, she must have begged to be taken along.
"It was so beautiful there. Maybe you can join us next time. Maybe after jamb. My parents would love to meet yours."  she looks excited but I am anything but! I look around for anything to say but thankfully I get saved by her driver.
"I knew I'll find you here." he shake his head, clearly exasperated.
"I'm sorry Steve. I was just giving the notes she missed during the week." I say and he nod.
"That's nice of you." He says but I know he doesn't buy my story.
"let's go dawn." he says as dawn wave Goodbye to me. I let them leave the empty class before I let my body sag against the door. I stare into the dark empty class which looks so much like my impending future. Dark and empty.

Michelle:
"Is she going to be okay?" I hear an unfamiliar voice. It sounds close. My pounding head discourages me from opening my eyes. I had the weirdest dream last night. Am I still dreaming? Who's the man in my room? I'm about to open my eyes when I hear a female voice. It's not loud enough to make out what she's saying but I know it's probably mother. Thank goodness my dream was just that. A dream. A freaking nightmare.
"Mom?" I call out as I push my hand out to try and touch her. Why won't my eyes open?!
"she's awake! Doctor!" there's that unfamiliar voice again. Why is he calling for a doctor? Where's mother?
"mother?" I try to force my eyes open but they begin to hurt too much. My heart beat speeds up to unbelievable proportion and a disturbing beeping sound rent the air. What the hell is that?
"mom?! Mother!" I scream louder. This is no longer funny. A soft hand engulf my outstretched one and I grab unto it.
"my eyes won't open! Make it open!" I desperately plead.
"Michelle calm down." That's not mother's voice. I push the hand away not too kindly.
"what's going on? I want to see my mother! Where the heck am I? What's wrong with my eyes!" I'm beginning to go hysterical as I try to force my eyes open
"sir,  you have to tell her yourself. She's your daughter. It's your responsibility." the female voice is saying? Father? Tell me what?!
"Michelle honey, we lost your mother just last night."
"What?! No! We should look for her. What's lost should be found right?" I ask, not wanting to understand what the stranger is saying. I manage to get myself off the bed but land on my hands and knees on the cold floor.
"we have to find her!"I scream, frustrated.
"Michelle! Please stop it. You'll hurt yourself."
"Why can't I see a damn thing!" I sob.
"Baby, you lost your sight in the accident that took your mother." those words crash into me as I remember the damn trailer crashing into us.

. I remember yelling at mother. I killed her.
I burst into uncontrollable sobs as an unfamiliar body hold me.
"No. I killed her.  I have to die too. I need to be with her again and apologize. Please, take me to her. I need to die not her." I sob as I mourn my loss.  Not the one of my sight but of my mother. This blindness is probably her way of punishing  me for being a bad kid.
"mom I've learnt my lesson please come back. " I cry out
"I'll take care of you my child. I'll take you away from this hospital , this country. This life." the man promise but I don't want my life back. I deserve more than blindness.
