Lawrence's POV

When i saw her walk into the room, she got my full attention. She was spotlessly fair, her smile was breathe-taking. I grinned knowing i found myself a new catch.
Erika had to embarrass me in front of her because of my fishy breathe.
Although i was kind of grateful, it would have been more embarrassing if she had been the one to call my attention to it.
I went back home to brush my teeth, hoping to God i will find her at the hospital. David called through Sharon, demanding that i bring his phone from the office.
I got back to the office, to my dissappointment, the nurse was nowhere to be found.
I asked virtually every nurse i saw but only one was able to help me out . A mature nurse called Nurse Susan.
She asked that I wait at the lobby while she brought out my unknown fair nurse.
Whike I waited at the lobby, a tall fair lady came out. She had beard on her chin, "Sir this must be her" the nurse Susan said to me and i stared at the woman.
"Madam, i think you got my description wrong. I said i was looking for a young nurse"
"Oga so as i dey so, i old? I no young?" she asked in a thick calabar accent.
I quietly stared at her, there was no nice way to answer that question.
i ignored her, now glancing at the mature woman. "Madam the nurse i'm looking for is smoking hot, young, pretty and naturally fair, not bleaching cream fair"
"Oga it's as if you want to see my red eyes"
"I wasn't even talking to you Madam" I snapped at her, "Who you were talking to then?" she asked.
I marvelled at her grammatical blunder.
"I comes and you start talk rubbish

. Are you senseful as you dey?"
The grimace on the nurse Susan's face was obvious. "Veronica take it easy" Nurse Susan begged. The angry nurse spoke in whatever dialect to the woman then she stormed off.
"I should be on my way" i said to the woman.
"Sorry i couldn't help much, Veronica gets angry easily." she answered and i gave a gentle nod leaving the hospital.
Or maybe we just met a live supernatural being. Could it be that she doesn't come from this world?

The following day was a saturday. I bumped into the nurse i made angry, Veronica at the reception, she was laughing with another who was definitely a receptionist by a counter.
She hissed on seeing me, "Good morning" i greeted and she hissed again.
"What you're finding?" she asked, "No english" the girl close to her begged.
"Sir is there any patient you want to see?" She asked and I shook my head. "Not exactly, i'm looking for a nurse, a young and pretty, very fair"
"Sunshine" Veronica answered. "Wey be like mammy water shea?"  She added and I nodded.
"Can you help me find her?" i asked and she hissed.
"I know you're probably angry at me" i brought out my wallet.
"I can be very generous" i emphasized and the woman smile.
"Lace 2K (two thousand naira) on top table and i go use my airtime run show for you" she answered and i smiled dropping five thousand naira on the table.
"How about you guys use that to get drinks"
"Thank you Sir" the receptionist smiled then winked at me. Of course i knew what that meant and on a normal day, i would have taken the offer; it wasn't just a good time.
Veronica left afterwards leaving me with the receptionist. "What's your preference?" she asked, "Huh?" i replied, i didn't understand.
"You love them fair right?" she added and i chuckled. "You don't like dark people like us right?" she asked and i laughed. She was obviously flirting, i moved close her, "I Love them black, i love them chocolate, and i love them fair, even albinos and bleached skin" i joked and she laughed.
"I'm not selective of the food i eat cause they're all vitamin"
"You're funny"
"So i've heard"  i answered.
"And you're hot too" she added biting her lower lips.
"So I've heard" I added and she laughed again.
"You didn't ask me about my own preferece" she said and i smiled.
"Forgive me, what's your preference?"
"I love it rough, pull my hair, slap me wherever, i don't care, just give it to me good, i love it when they make me scream their names in bed." she explained, those words and the way she said it was such a turn on! mehn, I would have embarassed myself if i didn't have control.
"What's the name?" she asked writing on a piece of paper. "Lawrence"
"I'm Shola" she answered passing the paper to me.
"Call me" she whispered then i noticed the Sunshine walk towards my direction.
"She's new and they say she's a hard nut to crack, just know i'm so easy" Shola whispered.
I walked towards her, "Nurse veronica had it all mixed it, she thought you're my relative" she smiled. "You have the most amazing smile" I commented.
"Thanks. What are you doing here? Are you here for the sick man?" she asked, "Not exactly, i've been looking for you since yesterday, i asked the whole nurses and no one knew you"
"I'm new here, it's just my second week here and i'm not too social"
"For a moment, i thought you were probably a mermaid" i confessed and she laughed.
"I won't doubt it though, you look like you're from... out of this world" i added, "Like an alien from Mars" "Mercury actually, cause you're hot"
I paused in thought, i didn't know why i said that.
"You do realize you just used the most cheesy line ever?" she asked and i tried to hide my embarassment.
"I'm lawrence"
"I'm nurse Sunshine, which is quite a coincidence, or maybe i'm really from Mercury cause i'm hot" she mimicked me, and I almost died of embarassment.
She laughed then apologized for it. "I've seen horrible pick up lines, you're a winner"
"When i saw you yesterday, i felt like i needed to see you?" i moved closer, "Geez i wonder why?"
"Perhaps love at first sight" i whispered and she quietly gaze at me.
"At least your mouth doesn't smell like fish today" she commented and i chuckled.
"It actually tastes more better" i answered and i noticed some persons stare at us. "I don't want to lose my job, so i better go"
"Are you free tomorrow?"
"Yes, i've got church in the morning, in the afternoon and church, in the evening"
Church girl? I thought within, then i hissed. She looks too 'slay' to be a church girl.
"Is this an indirect way of saying no?" i asked and she smiled.
"You're very smart too"
"Monday?" I asked, "I'm never free"
"You work shifts, Fix a day"
"No"
"I won't stop until you fix a date"
"I'll leave now"
"And I'll come back every single day, until you say no. I don't take no for an answer" "Okay.. fine, I'll be free on Friday evening"
"That was so easy. I don't believe you; give me your number"
"08068" she paused, "Are you going to take it down or not?" She asked and I brought out my phone dialing the number"
"08068756241"
I dialed it to be sure and it rang, "Seriously? I'm can't be cheesy enough to give you a fake number, I don't use the oldest tricks In the Bible" she snapped and I chuckled.
That was definitely a dig at me.
"Can I leave now?" She asked leaving and I gazed at how her ass moved then I called her number. "Seriously? Watch movies much? I haven't even left yet"
"I just wanted to tell you, you have a nice ass"
"There goes another cheesy movie line again" she answered and I chuckled. "That was a comment actually"
"I guess I should say thanks then" she answered and I laughed. "My ass has always been nice" she added and I laughed.
"Sorry about the cheesy lines too, I guess I was really nervous to speak to you, you're really pretty" I commented and there was a silence for a minute.
When a lady keeps quiet after a comment, it only means she's making it sink in.
"See you on Friday and I'll call"
"If I don't throw away my sim first" she answered and I laughed. "Call you later" I chipped in walking away then I winked back at Shola.
"I'll call you" I mouthed and she smiled.

I went back to the office to find Ibrahim smoking inside. I remembered I haven't called him to give him my condolence on his brother, Alhaji Danladi's death.
I felt bad knowing how fond he was of his elder brother. He turned back at me the moment I opened the door.
He looked sad and definitely needed the company. "Hey Ibro" I called out and, "Hey, permit me to smoke in your office, I'm just a bit down"
"I'm sorry about your brother" i apologized taking my seat and he scoffed.
"I've always thought Alhaji will die fucking a woman" he scoffed again, and I chuckled. "To think he was murdered. It's really sad"
"I'm sorry again. The murderer will be fished out definitely"
"In this Nigeria? With our poor technology? I'm not holding  my breath, I'll just die with him. We buried him in the morning"
"You Muslims don't take long" "What's there to wait for? How's your brother, I heard his wife smashed his head real bad."
"Where did you get that news from?"
"It doesn't matter, how's he?"
"He's all bandaged up, he'll survive sha. He's planning on divorcing crazy Cynthia anyways"
"Finally! I can now work towards having that woman in bed. Do you know how much I've m*sturbated to that woman's picture?" He asked and I laughed.
"You're crazy"
"What's up with you?" He probably noticed my happy mood.
"There's this chick I'm attracted to and I'm trying to get her.  She looks like she might be hard to crack but trust me, it's going to be really easy"
"Is it not you again? Baddest Bachelor ever liveth!" Ibrahim hailed and I smiled confidently.

David called me up in the evening to let me know Erika had found out the truth concerning the night of Richard's wedding. As a loving brother as I was, I rushed to console him.  He was really sad and shamelessly crying.
I was glad I wasn't like him, no woman has ever made me cry and i was so sure no one would.

***
I chose a beautiful restaurant for the date, on Friday. It was close to a hotel where I planned on retiring for the night with her.
"Let's talk about you" I began, every lady loves when the man talks about them.
"I'm Sunshine, I hail from Imo State.  I wanted to become a doctor. I had dreams"
"Seriously? How old are you?"
"I'm ...." She hesitated, "I'm twenty six years old."
"It not too late to pursue it"
"Oh I pursued it alright, but I dropped out of school in my second year after a tragic occurrence. My very rich uncle died, and his very stingy wife couldi pay my fees" She paused then cleared her throat.
"What about your parents?" I asked and she smiled.
"They're currently over there in the village"
"You just said in the village"
"I'm a village girl and I'm proud to be one"
"I wasn't mocking you.. it's just funny when you said village girl, you honestly don't look like a village girl"
"Thank God for make up"
"And cream"
"I use shea butter, why do people always assume I'm one big time slay queen. I am not, I'm an original kpako babe. I have tasted hard life even though it doesn't show on my skin. I don't have the luxury to slay, I only have the complexion" she joked and I laughed.
"I went to nursing school later on in life. Now I'm a nurse" she smiled and the whole place lightened up.
"You're really pretty" I said unconsciously and she chuckled. "What about you, tell me, who is this Lawrence? Judging from your phone, you're definitely one of these Yahoo Yahoo boys that goes around looking for girls pant to steal"
"Girls pant?"
"Haven't you heard it? It's trending now, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram. It's just beginning of February and I wonder what will happen towards the end of the year."
She complained and I laughed.
"I'm not a fraudster"
"So what are you?"
"I'm Lawrence Agbo Savage, a co-owner of Savage realtors. My brother, the man on the sick bed, he's the real owner."
"Seriously?" She asked, "Yes, I don't do fraud"
"Not that, I meant Agbo?" She laughed, "Your name is Agbo"
"Middle name, mom loves calling me that, what's funny about it?"
"All Agbo are stupid, sorry to generalized, but I know of three Agbo and...." She paused, "Sorry, I'm so sorry" she apologized.
"As I was saying, I'm not a fraudster, I make my own money and I am generous with it" i answered and she scoffed.
"Trying to woo an igbo girl with money, that's so typical" she answered and I felt bad.
"That wasn't what I was doing"
"Sounded like it" she answered and I felt weird. Why isn't she breaking? I asked myself, why?
"You're from Benue right?" She asked and I nodded.
After the date, i knew within me that suggesting going to a hotel would be a wrong move to I volunteered to take her to her house.
"Thanks, my home is far and the road is bad." "I brought out my wallet, giving her cash but she bluntly refused.
"I don't need your money. Bye Lawrence, thanks for dinner" she answered and I moved my lips close to hers and she moved away.
It was so embarrassing!
Two couples noticed the kiss move and I felt even more embarrassed, "I'm sorry" She apologized.
"Good night" she walked away and I scoffed.
No one has ever rejected my kiss and I've never been on a date with a lady and not kiss her, even though I didn't have sex with her at first.
I called Shola up, "Where are you?" I asked, I picked her up and we went to the house.
***
She reached another o*gasm, screaming in pleasure and I found my own release.  She finally collapsed on the bed.
"Oh my God" she laughed.
"That was some serious...." she gasped for breathe and I did too. "Whoa!" She added. "You're a keeper" she continued and I chuckled.
"Sorry, I don't do commitments"
"I don't do commitments either" she answered kissing me on the lips and I kissed her too.

I woke up the following morning and Shola was already dressed up. "Morning s*xy" she wore her earrings.
"Going already?"
"Yeah" she answered and I opened a drawer removing some cash. Then I gave it to her.
"When can I come back?" She asked and I laid back in bed. "I'll call you" I answered and she mounted on me kissing my neck.
"How about I give you a Saturday morning s*x" she asked and I shook my head. "I've got work" I answered and she rose up.
"Bye Lawrence" she chipped in leaving my room.
Memories of my date crossed my mind, I hissed angrily. All my hope and expectations were dashed. I called Sunshine and a man picked up.
"Who am I speaking to?" He asked and I hung up.

I called Sunshine afterwards and she picked up, "Good morning" she greeted. "Good morning. I called you the other time, your boyfriend picked up"
"That was my brother"
"The oldest lie in the Bible"
"He's my eldest brother, he had business in Lagos so he had to pass the night at my house"
"Whatever you say" he answered. "Believe whatever you want. Why did you call?"
"Another date"
"I'm sorry I can't"
"Why?"
"Cause I don't want to go on a date with you. I've taken time to observe you Lawrence, you're a play boy; the only you want in to drill into my honey pot and I'm not going to give you that satisfaction. No can do"
"What do you take me for?" I asked,  "A womanizer, I'm not stupid and I'm not going to fall for your tricks. Good day Lawrence" she snapped hanging up.
I felt so angry.
I promised myself that i wouldn't call her again, but I found myself calling her and each time I try, she refuse picking up my calls or returning them.
I stormed into David's office on Monday, I wore a frown on my face, Sunshine was still not picking up my calls, "What's it?" David asked,
"Sunshine! That's my issue"
"The sun is not too hot" he tried to joke but I didn't laugh.
"You know what I mean David" I snapped and he smiled.
"Just to kiss her after a date na wahala" I hissed and he laughed again. He definitely found it amusing.
"To s*x her nko?"
"Just forget it" he advised, and i disagreed.  "I can't, I can't forget it.

Read " The Picnic " by the same author ( Essien Eno )

. It's annoying, I've never felt so defeated. I need to kiss her, this is Lawrence nah. When have I ever lost a battle?" I asked and he laughed harder.
I asked him about Erika and he felt so defeated. Ibrahim and I went out to the bar to have a drink, I had a little too much to drink ; Ibrahim was pretty drunk too.
"What's it about some girls? Why are they so difficult? What are they even feeling like" I asked and he laughed. "That's why I always pay to ease the whole process, buy her heart"
"She's the first ibo girl that doesn't like money. I've never seen a girl so stubborn."
"Let's not talk about girls, let's talk about fun things." he stalled, "Alhaji would have sponsored our drinks with girls to take home."
"Now we're talking about the dead" I pointed out and he laughed.
When I grow up, I want to be like him"
"Have a pot belly and wake up dead on a road someday?" I asked and he laughed.
"I want to have concubines like he did. Alhaji was a legendary footballer and we'll forever remember him for the goals he scored" he answered and I laughed.
"It shall not be well with the person who killed him"
"Feso Odogwu" I whispered and he laughed, "Why do you have to mention that guys name?" He asked and I gulped an entire glass of beer.
"He killed your uncle, our private investigator found out. David doesn't want anyone to know" "Why?"
"I don't know. You know how much I dislike that guy right?" I asked. "David is trying to be righteous, maybe because Erika likes him"  "Who's Erika again" he asked and I scoffed.
"I told you already, she's the new love of David's life"
Ibrahim kept quiet, "I better get going" he stood up staggering. "Without the girls?" I asked, "Is that even possible?" He asked walking towards a girl and I laughed.
