In the Village
BUNMI'S POV
My parents welcomed me home because they had no choice, they were not happy , my dad warned me abt Joseph Benson but I was in crazily in love with him and I thought he was until things became this bad.
I settled in with my daughter, I felt so embarrassed dad was feeding me, I had to do something, 5months later I was able to borrow money from my new friend Mummy twins, to start selling fairly used clothes, I started travelling to onistha to buy clothes
I have a daughter and my old parents to cater for.
Omotola's POV
Mom started travelling to onistha , she brought the clothes to the village to sell, the profit was not enough to cater for us, talk more of paying the debt she owe, that same period I was sick to the extent everyone thought i was going to die, we spent all the money we had including the money for business going from one native doctor to another, mom could not even work, I finally survived it, few months after my recovery mom had to work, so we could pay up all our debt and get money to start up something.
I wasn't happy , I wasted all mom's money in sickness
BUNMI'S POV
It wasn't easy making such decision, but it was for the best, I will be away for 3 months. Grandma and Grandpa will take good care of you.
See grandma's health, see Grandpa they are not getting any younger, and I have my five years old baby, I smiled looking at her
She wasn't happy but I had to ignore her feelings, overcome the emotions and hustle or become a subject of ridicule in the village
I started working as a sales girl in a boutique onitsha, I was paid #2000 monthly, I saved most of it, I didn't even rent an apartment , I slept in the boutique and sometimes under the bridge, life wasn't easy for me in onitsha.
Madam Martha will sometimes beat me, I wasn't
even her mate , anything for money, I used that to console myself, a lot of men admired me, but I wasn't bothered, I scared most of them away by telling them I have a child.
Omotola's POV
Staying with my grandparents was fun, no stress, the only thing is that I couldn't make choices, there where days we ate Amala from morning till night, no varieties, any time I complain, Grandma will shout this is not your father's house, appreciate whatever we give you, I was sent away from school , I couldn't pay my fees, I was staying at home, I really missed mum
Three weeks after I was sent away from school, my grandfather brought an idea of me Hawking chewing stick in the neighborhood, a bundle was #10 , I had to sell 50 sticks , my exam is in a week time.
No matter what , I must go to school, most villagers bought the sticks from me, out of pity in 3 days I sold 75 sticks, I paid my school fees and gave mummy twins the money for the sticks, I collected more to sell, at least we could use the money to feed ourselves.
Mom finally came back, after 3 months and few days, I was happy, but I didn't show it, I couldn't tell why? , Maybe I missed her or am angry .
