As I entered the office, I was just indifferent, I didn't know whether I was happy or sad, the happiness state should be because of Bosun and the sadness state should be an expected outcome of coming late to the office. "Miss Lara, why did you come late today?" The secretary asked.
"It was cab o, I waited for hours today, where's Oga (boss)," I peeped through the door.
"Ah, he has been asking after you since, he even said you should see him in the office whenever you come...," she said.
I did not wait for her to complete the statement, I ran to the boss office thinking of the doom that was awaiting me. "Good-good morning sir," I couldn't control myself because I was scarcely afraid.
He lifted his eyes up, with his glasses like that of old professor's glasses, and said "Hmm, miss Lara," he adjusted his glasses . "Why are u late today?" I did not answer because I know that if I say any single word, he would flare up like an angry thunder which is sent to a culprit. "Anyways, take this letter, it is for you," he handed me a brown envelope. The moment I heard that word, I was extremely shaking because I was sure that I have come to the end of my work in that office. I reluctantly collected the envelope and as I was about to open the envelope, he added, "You can leave now." That word doubled my fear, I had no other thought than that the envelope was a sack letter, I entered my office deep in thought and I wanted to open the envelope, my phone just rang, guess who it was, Bosun

. "Hello..., I'm good..., 7pm?..., no problem." Those are my response. Do you really want to know what our conversation was, be calm. As soon as I dropped the phone, someone knocked,
"who's there?" I asked.
"It's me, the secretary," that's the voice from outside.
"OK, you can come in." I replied.
"Miss Lara, hope you're not too busy?" She said
"Not at all," I said grinning. "When does this familiarity begin, people change overtime o.." That's my thought before she cut in.
"Ehn ehn.." She cleared her thoat, it caught my attention and I looked straight into her eyes given her the word I wanted to express, because I did not know the exact thing she wanted.
"Have you seen the manager?" She asked.
"Yes, I have...oh I've forgotten the envelope he gave me" I quickly took the envelope, tore it and opened, expecting something sad but the headline gave me a feeling I could not even express, it states "THE APPROVAL OF PROMOTION AND INCREASE IN SALARY." I humped out of my seat full of joy, the Secretary still wondering what was happening, took the letter and read aloud. I knew she ain't happy about my promotion to Assistant Manager but I did not mind. She stood up and coldly said, "congrats." I could not hesitate to say a loud thank you to her and she left. I hurriedly went to my new office to feel the new breeze there. I could not think of any other thing than to inform my new found friend, I remembered that we have a date at 7pm that day.
I got home happy because the Lord gave me a new thing in my life. I was now thinking of the kind of dress I would wear for the dinner, I checked all through my wardrobe, I was not satisfied with what I'm seeing. So I gave myself to rest for few hours, "Lara, close your eyes," Bosun said. I closed it and he held my hand, I felt something was inserted in third finger and I heard open it, it was a ring. The moment I saw the ring on my hand and I attempted to say a word, I woke up from the dream. "Oh, it's just a dream, Wait am I already falling for this guy?" I was soliloquising. I checked my time, it was already 6:30pm. I went to the bathroom, had shower and resulted in wearing a blue colour gown I bought for a colleagues birthday party, sprayed a lemon scent perfume. My phone rang, "hello..., Living spring hotel & suite?..., alright... I'll join you soon." The call hung.
