This is Hell
"Where are you coming from" Alfred gazed directly at the woman who just walked in through the door. He hated it when Rachel treated him like she was deaf. It took him just 3steps to position himself majestically in front of his already fidgeting wife.
"Where are you coming from Rachel. Or do you want me to hit you before you talk!"
In truth, Rachel had already seen this coming and had tried to prevent it . It had taken her 2 referrals before she was able to arrive at a clinic that was willing to admit the dying man she had rescued. And then she had to make a formal report at the police station hoping there could help ID the man. It took 3hours before an officer was eventually despatched to ascertain her claim. After which she had to wait for 2hours so she could speak with the doctor to know if the man would survive besides she couldn't just drop someone in an hospital and then leave.
"There was a dying man" she answered
"A man. You are such a cheap Hoe. Which married woman stays out this late!"
"It was critical. And I.."
"Don't you dare lie to me Rachel. You are so despicable. Why weren't you picking my calls? I called you over a dozen times!"
Because my mind was in a frenzy. I wasn't even aware where my phone was

. She wanted to say but kept mute instead.
"Answer me when I talk to you. Don't make me hit you"
"Sooner or Later you would anyway. and you promised you won't drink again"
Once Alfred drank, by default he became and irrational tiger.
"Don't you change the topic. I gave you two hours and yet you come back 7:15pm. What type of woman stays out that late?"
It was the same every time. This wife of his always liked to get on his nerves. Each time he got sober he would allow her leave the house as compensation for hurting her but then she would always disobey him, triggering his anger in the process, making him go back to the alcohol.
"Why can't you just obey. I don't like hurting you you know"
Only a fool would believe that.
"Alfred its only 7:15 not like its midnight"
The next thing Rachel felt was a stinging palm on her left cheek.
"So it's Alfred now right? I knew you were out with a Man. Why didn't you just spend the night with him then. Why come home to 'alfred'.
" I didn't... Mean it that way"
Rachel couldn't stop the tears now. What crime did she commit that the heavens would give her such a monster husband. All she wanted was to be married. But this?
This must be hell.
"Go to your room. Do not even there to come out for any reason"
"Let me at least set you dinner"
"Why must you contradict me?"
Alfred couldn't help but hit her again and then again and then some more before shoving the screaming woman into her room and slamming the door. Only then did he feel peace sipping into his mind.
"And I don't want you to make a noise" he called before moving back to the parlour to enjoy the soothing feel of the alcohol on his tongue.
He got a called an hour later that made him frown. The next minute, he walked into his wife's room to see her curled up in a ball jerking like a lunatic.
"I'm sorry Rachel" he managed to say after a while.
" Why don't you just take a Gun and shot me. Does it really matter to you how I die" she replied after listening to a long and meaningless apology from him.
"Come, come eat something"
"What do you want Alf.. What do you want Sir"
She knew Alfred well. He was only here because he needed her help with something. Otherwise He wouldn't mind leaving her locked up in this room for a week.
" You are pretty and smart. Why don't you go take your bath and meet me in the living room. You might like the deal I have for you"
Author's Note;; why do women stay in an abuse marriage. I really feel for Rachel! I wouldnt live with a man who dared to hit him.
