Like I said earlier, men are scum. Something in me didn't want to believe all Nonso said, but something else didn't disbelieve it. I knew it was over, even though I didn't want to accept it. I could not get married to a man who cheated on me at the slightest opportunity, a man who had the guts to bring his cheating partner back with him to Nigeria under the preposterous pretence of recommended caretaker presence, I'm sure he's been sleeping with her since they got back.
When I told my girls, they followed the same old pattern, confessing how they didn't really like him and how they didn't think he was the right one for me. I couldn't think straight anymore, I felt like if I called it off I'll be the one to suffer the most pain, I was bitter.

Breaking up meant a lot of things for me, for us, our wedding which was supposed to be two months away and based on the Chiedozie's affluence, we were expecting quite a number of influential guests, we couldn't afford to postpone not to talk of cancel . I was confused, couldn't live with myself so I called him up, determined to resolve and dissolve the relationship officially. We agree to meet up at my place and talk, but while making the plans, typical Nonso seized the opportunity to beg yet again, all pleas fell on deaf ears.
With the encouragement from my girls, I decided to go through with the break up.

On the agreed day, Nneka, Uju and Amaka went to work early, giving me enough time to prepare. I cried a little, or maybe a lot, but I was determined to go through.
By midday, I was dressed, I already applied enough makeup to concede my teary face and I heard the door bell ring just as soon as I was ready.
"Hold on I'm coming!", I said, loud enough for whoever was at the door to hear me.
My shock when I opened the door was undescribable, Mrs Lucy Adepeju Chiedozie, also known as Madame Lucy walked into my apartment, followed by a Nonso that looked too miserable to be my own fiancé, and lastly Chief Chiedozie himself

. Believe me when I say I was shocked beyond description.
"Wow, to what do I owe this undeserved celebrity visit o?!", I asked looking at no one in particular but expecting a reply. They all wore a sad look anyway and I knew they came to beg. "Ahn ah! Why the long faces?", I exclaimed when no one answered me, "did someone die?" I asked again, this time I knew I sounded like I meant to make a mockery of the situation, but I didn't mean it that way, I just needed someone to talk.
"No one died my daughter, we come in peace", Madame Lucy said, this was the second time she was calling me 'her daughter', oh what begging can do to humans.

"Okay mummy, I'm listening", I feigned a caring look.

She begged me and told me their family history, Nonso's dad also said a lot of things I couldn't remember, we spent a lot of time there but I did more of listening than talking. Nonso said nothing but his looks said a whole lot.
I still loved Nonso and I was ready to go on with the wedding, I just needed some sort of assurance that he won't do that to me again.
How was I even sure they just wanted the wedding to go on just so their name is not rubbished?
Rich people can be like that though.

"Oh and the test results came in yesterday", Nonso finally spoke. I suddenly became scared all over again, my heart almost turned cold till he said what I was expecting to hear.

"We're clean, no traces of infection was found in us", he said 'us' like I didn't just almost break up with him.
Well I guess now he has learned his lesson.
Or so I thought.
