Fulfilling Wishes - Episode 19

 

“So, how was the meeting?” Reeva asked as he settled in to the seat.

“It was fine and I am sorry to have taken so long.” Andy explained.

They were at Mac’s restaurant and a waiter was waiting to take their order.

Reeva watched as he ordered for them both before.

“So, what’s up?” He asked grimly.

For a while, Reeva observed him for a while, she knew that her Andy was behind that cold rigid that was talking to her and she needed to just fish him out.

“Andy, baby, I know that we are going through something and just want us to trash things out.”

Andy was quiet all through but kept listening to her.

“I am sorry that I behaved irrationally, I should have been patient and I should have asked for whatever reason you may have before arguing with you. I am sorry about that . Right now, I will listen to you and I do hope that you will be patient to listen to me too.

Andy smiled and reached out for her hands. “Thank you for doing this baby, I am sorry for everything as well and I respect you more for doing this.”

Reeva smiled, well; the real Andy is already coming out. “So, why is it that you don’t want to have a wedding party?”

Andy held her hand, “well, it’s not like  that there is not going to be a wedding party, at least now that I see how much you are interested in it, we can have it within six months or a year after we have both moved in

Reeva kept looking at him even though there were many things going on in her head. Did he just say ‘year’?

“So, that is just it. So believe me, we will have the wedding, but just not so soon.”

Reeva removed her hand from his. She was beginning to boil inside and trying to calm down at the same time.

“Are you nuts?” She shouted at him, Andy was surprised.

“Why would you say that?”

“Months? Years! We just got engaged and now you are talking about Months and years! What do you take me for? The Lord of the Rings? I cannot believe this.” She barked, her whole body quivering. She needed to get a hold of herself, oh no! This wasn’t happening.

Andy realized that people were already looking at them. “Please, you need to calm down okay, we are here to talk about this, okay? I will give you a reason.”

“I’m listening.” She replied, even though she knew that there was no reason on earth that would make her do his bidding.

Andy sighed and started, “I know that you must have been wondering all these years why I never spoke about my mother. I know that I have always ignored your questions or avoided it, but believe me, it is a shameful thing and that is why I don’t like talking about it.”

This seemed to calm her down a little bit. She has always wanted to hear this story.

“My mother was pregnant with me when she got married to my father. Maybe she had gotten into the relationship with my father because of his wealth, no one knew until after she gave birth to me and carted away all his money while leaving me behind. It was later discovered that she was in a relationship with someone else and that they had both planned it together. This really affected my dad a lot and he finds it difficult to love or even profess his love again, he cannot trust any woman again in his life and he made me promise that I will not make the same mistake.”

Reeva raised a brow, that seemed like a blow to her but she was quiet.

“Since I was a child, my father had made me promise that any woman that I am going to settle down with must have stayed long enough with me for me to trust her before we get married. I know that we have been going out for a while and I engaged you because I believe that I can trust you and that we can spend the rest of our lives together. So please, I need you to be patient with me, I promise you, it will be worth waiting for, I just need to do what will make my father happy, he is only looking out for me.”

Reeva sighed and smiled weakly. This was freaking unbelievable!

“So, baby, we can do this together, living together and everything before we marry. I have already done what you wanted, I gave you a ring, you have all the assurance that I am going to marry you and that I am not going anywhere...”

Reeva was laughing now and tears were  coming from her eyes.

“Baby, are you okay?”

“Yea.” She replied.

. “Why won’t I be okay? I mean, you just made me realize that the man I want to spend the rest of my life with is a daddy’s boy and not a man of his own, daddy’s puppet! Or that, you don’t trust me? Or that you think I am desperate to have a man you have to chain me down with this stupid ring?” She laughed again.

Now Andy was dumbfounded. “Look Reeva, I am sorry if it came as an insult to you but I am really serious and I mean it, I love you and I just told you the truth. My mother really did a lot on my father and I don’t want to...”

“Bla, bla, bla!” Reeva said, interrupting him. “Excuses, excuses, excuses! Do I look like your mother to you? Oh wait!” She laughed again, “I cannot believe this. If I had known that this is the kind of a person you are, you think I would have agreed to marry you! You are nothing but your father’s son! My daddy this, my daddy that! When are you ever going to be your own decision maker?” Now she was shouting at the top of her voice and everyone was starring.

“I am not going to be your roommate. Clearly, you need a roommate and not a life partner! I am so tired of this nonsense!” She was about to remove the ring on her finger but then she stopped, rook her bag and left the restaurant.

Andy watched as she left the restaurant, he thought of running after her but he changed his mind. He didn’t understand what just happened. He had told her the whole truth and now she was mad at him. He really hated John for giving him that stupid piece of advice. What else could he have even told her? Could he have lied to her? If he had lied, wouldn’t that complicate things? She didn’t even get to tell him her own reason on why this was important to her.

He leaned back; many people were still looking at him. He had never been so humiliated in his life.  He had never seen this side of her before, women could be so difficult.

He took out his phone and dialed John’s number.

“Hey man, don’t ever advise me again!”

“What happened?”John asked.

“She just behaved like a crazy woman.”

“What did you tell her?”

“The truth man!”

“Where are you?”

“Macs.”

“You better, because I think Im loosing my mind"
