“Wow! Andy! You are back so soon, you didn’t say you were coming.” A woman said to Andy as they entered the house. Reeva has never seen her before but has heard quite a lot about her, she knew instantly that it was Ruthie, the woman that had taken care of Andy and his father. She looked like someone in her late forties and she looked really pretty.

Andy smiled and gave his bag to the butler.

“Yes Ruthie, I just had to come.” He replied, embracing the woman who was now looking at Reeva.

“Wow! Is this Reeva?” She asked, pulling away from Andy and coming towards Reeva who was all smiles.

“Yes, that’s her.” Andy replied.

“I am so happy to meet you my dear, how are you?” Ruthie asked warmly.

“I am good Ruthie, I have heard so much about you too.” Reeva replied before Ruthie embraced her.

“How is dad? Where is he?”

“He is in his room. He will so thrill to see you even though, you had just left here yesterday.”Ruthie replied.

“Andy turned to Reeva . “Go with Reeva, I will be back shortly, “then he kissed her before proceeding towards the stairs.

“So, come with me darling. I want to know everything about you.” Ruthie said, taking Reeva with her to the kitchen.

“But you said nothing about you coming here.” Michael said after a while, he was sitting on his bed.

“Yes dad, I just needed to come see you and to talk to you.” He replied, sitting on a couch.

His father threw him a suspicious look

. “You are making it seem as if you are here on a mission.”

Andy smiled. “Yes dad, I am.”

“Do I need to get a bottle of Vodka for that?”

Andy chuckled and stood up, he walked to the wine cabinet and brought out a bottle and two cups.

Ruthie handed her a cup of tea while they both sat behind the mahogany table in the kitchen.

“So I was told that you are liar.”

Reeva smiled. “Yes Ruthie, I believe you wanted to say ‘lawyer’.”

The woman chuckled. “A liar is a lawyer isn’t it?”

Ruthie smiled more, “well, you can say that.”

“Good.”

“I was told that you single handedly brought Andy up. You did a very good job.”

Ruthie chuckled. “I know, trust me.”

“His mum will be so proud.” Reeva said before she could stop herself, she noticed Ruthie’s tense reaction but which was quickly covered up by a wide grin.

“I bet she will be.” Then she drank from her cup.

Andy passed a half-filled up of vodka to his father and then sat down on the bed next to him.

“So, what is it son?”

Andy sighed before proceeding. “Dad, I understand everything you have been teaching me since I was a child.

I don’t even want to imagine all the things that my mother must have put you through, it was horrible and I appreciate the fact that you have been trying to protect me from it. Now, as we both know that I am not getting any younger and I  will one day settle down, I am here to introduce the lady that I want to spend the rest of my life with, to you.”

Andy stopped to catch his breath, since he had been talking; it as if he had not been breathing and what he just said now was like something he had memorized throughout their journey all the way from Boston and now, saying everything once, was like a heavy load has just been lifted from his shoulder.

His father smiled. “How long have you been memorizing that?”

“Just today.” He replied, surprised that his father found him out so soon.

Michael lifted the cup to his lips and sipped a little from it. “I remember when I went to your grandfather’s house to ask if I could marry your mother, I was as nervous as this, I think I was even worse. I kept sweating like a brute, and my heart was beating so fast because I knew that my father would never accept her as his daughter in law.”

Andy raised a brow, he had never been told that story before. “Really?”

“Yea. He saw right through her, the very first day he had seen us together, he told me that she was a gold-digger and t hat she was only after my money.

. I should have believed my father but , I was stupid, young and in love. Believe me, those three words together in a sentence always end up in a deep regret, like now.” He drained the rest of his drink. “Son, who is this lady that you want to spend the rest of your life with?”

“She is downstairs.”

“With Ruthie?”

“Yes.”

“Well then, why don’t we go downstairs and join them, I will be happy to know who she is. I had always thought you would end up with Maggie.”

Andy chuckled. “Really?”

“Yea, I know her and I know her father, to some extent, I trust her, if you had picked her, marrying her would not be a problem you know, I would even support your wedding party.”

“Well, it is not Maggie father.”

“Well, that’s a shame.”

“She is someone you have met once.”

The father was surprised. “Really? I don’t think that I have met many of your female friends.”

“Well, it was actually a bad first time encounter.” Andy explained, “She was the one who, um, released some content on your shoes at my grad party.” He said, waiting for his father’s reaction but there was none.

“I don’t understand.” Michael replied.

“I mean, she was the one who vomited that day.”

“Oh!”

“Yes dad and she has been wanting to meet you all this while but she is very ashamed of that incident so please dad, don’t bring it up, it will mortify her.”

“Okay, I will not. Any other thing that I need to know?”

“Well, I got engaged to her weeks back and the engagement party is scheduled for next week Sunday.”

“Wow! That is really so fast, I hope she is not pregnant?”

“No she is not, I just want us to move in on time, and I love her so, we cam start living our lives together.”

“That means there won’t be a wedding party?”

“No dad, not after what you have taught me, I am not ready to lavish my money on a woman that might later break my heart.”

His father seemed impressed. “So what about if you eventually discover that she is a good woman, are you going to have a proper wedding?”

“Well, if I have to, but for now, we move in together first and live together, then we might have a wedding party.”

Michael stood up, he was proud. “I am so proud of you son. You have proven to me that you know what you are doing and I am rest assured.”

Andy smiled and nodded. “So, what about Ruthie?”

His father threw him a questioning look, “what about her?”

Andy gave a lopsided grin and a knowing look, “both of you have been staying in this house alone since I left, what have you two been up to?”

“I don’t understand what you mean, son, but if it is what I’m thinking, then you must be out of your head.” He said, walking to the door, while Andy laughed.

“I don’t know the problem with you both, you are both too old to deprive yourself of happiness...”

“Shut up Andy!”
