“So the venue is settled and you are having the party at Abuja.”

“Yes KEMI that is the summary of the whole thing.” Reeva replied, walking to her seat with the file in her hand.

They were back in L.A and she had just told KEMI everything that happened.

“So, Maggie is going to be there?”

“Apparently, that lady is like a cankerworm, she keeps spreading everywhere all around me, I don’t know what her deal is. First she got her claws around Tony and sucked him dry, now she is eyeing my Andy . What is her problem? I really don’t understand why she is trying to make my life miserable.”

 “You said you ran into Tony the other time....?” KEMI asked as she finally settled down.

“Yea, I did, I don’t actually know what the story is but, I know that they are no longer together.”

“So do you think she might be interested in taking Andy?”

Reeva sighed and placed her face in her hand.”I hope not but I bet that she is up to no good.”

“Does Andy share in your concern?”

Reeva shrugged, “he thinks she could be trusted since she is a friend of the family.”

“A friend of the family...” KEMI scoffed.

“Yea, they go way back, His father, her father-some friends of some sort.”

 “Friend or no friend, she can’t be trusted.”

“I know, you must have seen the way her eyes lit up immediately she saw Andy, and then she got turned off just as she saw me.”

“She is your enemy, you must try and make sure that she finds no opening between you and Andy, people like that will always look out for every little chance to penetrate.”

Reeva nodded in agreement, “you are right. I am certain that the whole phone exchange that happened between them that time was just her way of intruding , I am so sure of that.”

“Well, now you know what you need to do.”

“Yea, I need to get married ASAP.”

The party took place in the night and was a mixture of red and blue, all the men were in blue suits and red tie while the ladies were beautifully adorned in red

. A soft music played from somewhere in the house while the big projector displayed all the pictures the couple had ever taken together even while at college. There were many people of high nobilities, half of which Reeva would not have known.

They were all standing in groups; some were laughing and gisting, while others were getting acquainted

 It was her engagement party and she was still as nervous as ever in the long flowing red gown that she was wearing. Her hair hung loosely on her shoulder and carefully tucked in her hair was a tiara.

“Get it together Reeva, you look so uncomfortable, are you okay?” Skybae asked. She had arrived the day before for the party, Pristin on the other hand couldn’t make it.

“I’m okay, I just never expected this many people and the way Maggie keeps holding his hand just because she is a friend of the family is making me want to puke.” Reeva retorted, stopping a waiter and taking a cup from the tray.

Right ahead of them was Andy, his father and Maggie; they were talking to a couple.

“What is her problem anyway? She is not even the bride.” KEMI stated. “Reeva, I think you need to go meet your groom.”
“Yea, I think I will do that.” Reeva said, draining her cup, she handed the cup to Skybae and then walked towards Andy.

“Hey babe.” Andy said as he spotted her.

“For once I thought I was no longer the bride.” Reeva said on purpose but jokingly before Andy kissed her.

“So, what did I miss?” Reeva asked.

“Nothing really, I am handling things. So you just be a pretty little bride.” Maggie replied.
“I wasn’t talking to you and this is my engagement party, maybe you should go hold yours before trying to dominate mine.” Reeva snapped back and Andy had to carry her away before she could cause any scene.

“Baby, you need to calm down.” Andy said as they got out of the house.

“I just don’t like how she is all over you, it’s just....” Reeva started and then stopped as Andy drew her closer to plant several kisses all over her.

“You are just jealous okay?”

“I know and I don’t trust her, can’t we just go back to now?”

Andy gasped and laughed. “We should leave and leave all these people here?”

“They will leave eventually.”

“No baby. We will be going back tomorrow afternoon just as we have planned.”

She frowned. “I know. I am just not comfortable with her around and I really want her out of our hair,”  she sulked.

“Just this one more night darling.” As they hugged in the beautiful moonlight, Reeva could see her mother approaching.

“Oh,  I think your mother wants to talk to you.” Andy said before pulling away.

“Hello Mrs. Jones.”

Tracy smiled, “Andy, I think it’s okay to call me Tracy from tonight, don’t you so?”

Andy chuckled and nodded, “no problem let me excuse you two.” He kissed Reeva on the cheek before going back to the house.

Tracy observed her daughter for a while before pulling her closer to her.

“Congratulations darling, seems your dreams are coming to reality gradually.”

Reeva smiled.”Thanks so much mum, I wouldn’t be here without your support.”

“So I saw Maggie.” Her mother continued as they took a walk around the garden.

“Oh, so what do you think? Do I have anything to be afraid of?”

“She is a slut alright, but you should trust Andy, he only has the eyes for you.”

Reeva heaved a sigh of relief as she heard this. “So about the wedding...”
“I still think you should talk to Andy about it.” Tracy replied.

“Why do I have a feeling that there is not going to be a wedding?”

“Well, I don’t know but whatever feeling it is, you need to cancel it and go talk to your fiancée. There may be a reason behind everything and come to think of it, it might just be your own fear that is making you see things in another way entirely.”

“But mum, I thought you guys also think that...”

“Never mind what we think, all of us are only speculating. Imagine, no one even thought of the engagement party, I am sure that you didn’t even expect him to have whisked you away from L.A down here to Abuja  the day he introduced you to his father.”

“Well, that was really a surprise.” Reeva admitted.

“So you see, he is actually looking out for you.” Her mother whispered to her ear before squeezing her shoulder. “By the way, I spoke to a wedding planner, she will meet with you next week Tuesday, that means you and Andy must have talked about the wedding before then and you must go see her together.”

“Okay mum.”

“The woman  that had set this up, what’s her name?”

“Ruthie?”

“Yea, I would like to meet her, after all, you said she is like a mother to Andy.”

“Yes, come, let me introduce you to her.”

“You look really beautiful.”

Ruthie turned around and was surprised as she saw Michael behind her. She curtsied and smiled. “Thank you, you don’t look so bad yourself.”

Michael smiled. “I owe you everything Ruthie.”

“Owe?” Ruthie asked, “why do you have to owe me anything?”

“Look at all these setups, you are just an angel, I still have no idea how my life will turn out without you.”

“Well, down the drain for sure.”Ruthie joked and they both laughed.

Michael looked serious and advanced closer to her, “you are so beautiful in and out and I just can’t seem to get my eyes off of you.”

“Mr. Michael, what are....”

“Michael,” he corrected.

“Well Michael, I don’t understand what you are doing....”

Ruthie’s heart beat faster as Michael stepped even closer, his gaze fixed intensely on her shiny lips while his hand was going to somewhere around her neck, she couldn’t move, was he going  to kiss ? Just as he stepped closer and reduced the gap in between them, she shut her eyes and poised her lips...

“There, I found this on you.” Michael said, and she opened her eyes, in his hand is a tiny piece of paper, embarrassment washed over her like water.

“Excuse me. “She muttered before turning around to flee the scene.

Finally, she was out of the house and was trying to catch her breath while thinking of what just happened.

Was Michael about to kiss her in front of the whole people, or was he actually interested in removing that silly paper from her dress? She sighed, this was becoming too much for her. She really needed to get a drink. She turned and was about to head back to the house when the door opened.

“Ruthie!”

She looked up to find Reeva and her mother as they have earlier been introduced.

“Oh hi dear, our latest bride.” She said, putting her arm around her Reeva.

“This is my mom.” Reeva said, coming out with her mother.

“Oh of course, I know, we just never met like this.” Ruthie replied, as the two women kissed each other on the cheeks.

“I just want to thank you for everything.” Tracy started.

“Please don’t tell me you are going already...”Ruthie quickly pitched in.

“Well, not right now but very soon actually.” Tracy replied.

“Well you are welcome to the family and it has been a great pleasure.”

“I just thought of meeting you privately and to thank you for the wonderful job you did on Andy.”

Ruthie smiled as they walked in to the house together. “It has always been my pleasure, you have done a great job on Reeva here too.”

“I know right?”

They all laughed but Reeva’s phone vibrated.

“Oops, I gotta go, Andy needs me.”

“Well, don’t keep your fiancée waiting.” Ruthie stated and they all chuckled before Reeva went back inside.

“Shall we take a walk?” Tracey suggested.

“Yes, I don’t mind.” Ruthie replied and the two women began to take a walk together. There were many cars parked outside.

“Now that we are having so many cars here, I wonder how it is going to be on the night of the wedding.” Tracy said with a laugh but Ruthie only chuckled and was quiet.

“You know I am sensing some signals and I really think its not what I’m thinking.” Tracy continued and stopped in her tracks.

“What is it?” Ruthie asked.

“Andy has been avoiding the whole talk about his mother and about the wedding and I can’t help but get curious and now that I just mentioned wedding again, just chuckled.

. Please is my daughter’s heart getting broken soon?”

Ruthie sighed. “Look, Mrs...”

“Tracy please.”

“Tracy, whatever you need to know about Andy’s mother is not a problem to you at all, the family just doesn’t like to discuss it because it is indeed a shameful thing, one that Andy will tell his spouse in due time. Concerning the wedding, I don’t know yet, but I will really advise you to tell your daughter to make sure she plans with Andy first before doing anything.”

“What are you talking about? This is a normal thing. Why should a wedding party be such a hard work? If he doesn’t want to get married to her, why get her engaged in the first place?”

“I understand your concern Tracy but this is for your own sake and the sake of your daughter. She must not do anything in a rush, she needs to make plans with Andy first.”

Tracy observed Ruthie for a minute. “You are getting me suspicious Ruthie, is something bad going to happen?”

“I hope not and believe me, Andy loves your daughter so much but you know I’m just the maid, I have a limit to whatever I know....”

“Really? A limit? There was no limit few minutes ago when Michael was almost kissing you.”

Ruthie flushed in embarrassment. “You saw that?”

“Yes I did.”

“He wasn’t going to kiss me, there was a paper...”

“Forget the stupid paper, he only diverted your attention, believe me, he looked like he wanted to devour you right there.”

Ruthie chuckled, “he is just my boss.”

“I know and it is a normal thing especially when the boss and the employee have to raise a child together.”

Ruthie sighed. “There are so many things you don’t understand that I am even finding difficult to understand Tracy, but trust me, Andy loves your daughter.”

Tracy shrugged, “they always do until they break her heart. She wants this wedding Ruthie, it is her one dream, our dream...”

“So why do you think it is not going to hold?”

‘Because I am good at sensing when something is about to go wrong.” Tracy replied.

“Well, nothing will go wrong, I promise you, just make sure she talks to Andy before doing anything. Now can we enjoy this night and stop getting worried?” Ruthie suggested desperately.

For a while Tracy only kept mute but then she nodded, “okay, besides, I think I have a suggestion, you need to punish Michael for what he just did...”

Ruthie chuckled as they both walked back to the house. “Really? I would really like that, what do you suggest?”

“I will tell you once we are in, can we exchange numbers?”

“Sure.” Ruthie replied.
