Finding Solace - Episode 8
NICK
I watched as the doctor flashed something like a torch into her eyeballs one after the other.
“You are fine Fiona.” He said finally returning to his seat.
“So, what about the flashes?” I asked while leaning forward.
“The memory which was suppressed was triggered by something. Maybe a feeling of fear or a touch or a look.”
I exchanged glances with Fiona
. The doctor tore a note and began to scribble something down in it. Then he handed it to us.
“That is the number of my friend, Tracy, she is a psychologist. Anytime this occurs, try see her. She will help you with everything else.”
Fiona collected it and handed it to me.
“So, what do I do now Doctor?” She asked, rubbing her hands together.
“You need to go out more often Fiona. The flash was triggered by something you saw, heard or felt. So, anything can trigger your memories, you only need to find it.” He clasped his hands together as he continued. “Think of it like a puzzle, so you find the missing pieces anywhere and everywhere. So Mr Nick, you can handle that right?”
I nodded. “Sure.” Even though I wasn’t sure. “But it is just for her to go out and see things right?”
“Yes Mr Nick but with guidance

. She needs someone to be there for her anytime she has the flashes. They may be intense and may give her serious pain. She cannot stay alone for now.”
The doctor continued. “Do you have a problem with that?”
Fiona was looking at me expectantly; I didn’t want her to feel bad so I shook my head. “No Doctor.”
That was a lie. I would be travelling tomorrow to start a job and now…I sighed.

. I had just put myself in some deep mess.
“Very well. So, I guess that has been taken care of.” The doctor said finally before we later left.
All through the time in the car, we were so quiet. I had so many things in my head. I would be travelling tomorrow with no date of when I would be back. Normally, that is just how the work is. Just like Yvonne would go any time and come back any time, maybe that is why we make such a good couple. Now, Fiona needs someone that would be there to be taking her out and showing things to her. I do not have that time! Maybe all this was even a mistake in the first place.
“Are you okay Nick?”
I was surprised she could tell I wasn’t okay.
“Sure, what happened?”
“Well, you seem….somehow like you have something you would like to say.”
Well, she was right! Maybe I should say this.
“The truth is that, Fiona, I had a call today. I am to travel to Ghana tomorrow and I do not know when I will be back.”
She was quiet so I continued.
“…and I know what the doctor said but this is my job, I just hope you understand.”
“I do .” She said quickly, turning her face to the other side.
I sighed. This was even more difficult that I thought and I haven’t even talked about Yvonne.
“Everything would be fine , I promised you.”
She was quiet again.
“I would just think about calling someone, maybe like a bodyguard or a baby sitter that would help you with the going out thingy.”
She was still quiet, face still to the other side.
“Are you okay with that?”
She nodded without turning around. I was quiet, I knew she must be feeling bad but what was I supposed to do?

Hmm, with all these I really do not blame Nick. He after all has a job which means everything to him also. If you were Nick, what would you have done?

Take her with him if possible If impossible, make her stay with a trusted female friend
I go with Irene, Abigail and Grace, that Nick should take her with him to Ghana.
