She was looking at her wedding picture. "Its our wedding anniversary today" she said, faking a smile. I squeezed her hand and giving her a comforting smile said " it shouldn't be wiped from your memory , you know why?" Not expecting an answer I went on... " its because it was the best day of your life, and no matter how bad things turn out, you should remember that... That day gave you Neil Dike, there is more to life than meets the eye, if that day didn't happen....who knows who could have been my mother?" "It could have been a royalty, or a governess, or some rich lady" she replied smiling . "Or it could have been some wayward woman too" I added, raising an eyebrow. "Well, no matter what happens. I'm glad I married the one I loved, and I'm glad I have you, could anything else be better than that?" She asked. "No mother, nothing could be better" I muttered, smiling. "How do you manage to change my mood easily?" She asked.. "Well, I'm your son, I've known you for almost twenty years... So I know you much more than anyone. Does that answer your question , woman?" I asked. She smiled, pursed her lips to assume a thoughtful look. I stared at her, my hands on my jaw

. She burst into laughter saying " alright ...alright, I can't counter your answer, though its not good enough, I'll take it for now" "Oh yeah!!! I win" I exclaimed standing on my feet. "Now Neil go take care of your chores and that very room you left perfectly arranged, ironically speaking. ...I left it that way.. I didn't lift a thing there" she said putting on a stern look. "That is not fair mum" i said. she replied " life itself, is not always fair darling " she replied, grinning from ear to ear. ...."mum, I'm going to the street's football field this evening , do you want anything done before I leave?" I asked on top of my voice while in the hallway. "No , I just need you to get your room in a healthy condition. If you don't, then you are heading no where sweetheart" she answered. I imagined the sarcastic smile that would crawl into her face while she laced out those words.

"Guys, good evening!" I greeted, running into the field . "you are here just in time" a brownish looking teenager replied. "We've been looking for a completion to the team" "All good, I'm joining then" the whistle went of and the game started. Just a few minutes into it, I had the ball, few yard in front , Emeka waved and ran closer. I passed him the ball. It was a good pass, he just had to clear it and earn us a goal, but instead he resolved to dribble four players and unfortunately, kicked an opponent on the ankle, got him injured and as a reward ....a penalty . "Emeka, why in the name of Pete did you decide to show off when you know you suck at that?" I asked as I jogged towards him. "And who do you think you are to ask such a question?" He glared at me. I stared at him. "You know what? This explains why a woman should not raise a child single handedly ; a child trained by a woman alone lacks regard, respect and..." Before he could end his his words, a resounded bang lashed on his left cheek. "Did you just slap me?" He growled, raising his palm to his cheek. "Funny, right?" I asked smiling. He raged in anger.....looking like a puffball that could be ruined by merely clasping it between your palms.... He launched a punch, I ducked and heaved him unto my shoulder. Thanks to his rage , it served as the right propellant as he nearly jumped unto my shoulder. In a second I measured his full length on the ground and got on top of him.. " this is for my family" I snarled as I punched him. "This is for my mother !" I repeated the punch "and this is for disrespecting me!" I punched him again , before I let people separate us.
