Sommy's POV

All I had in mind was winning the bet. I was ready to take all the insults."You do know we have an hour for the session right?" I asked after he suggested we do an office clean up.
"I don't care. We can multitask" he replied firmly and I stood, picked up some books and putting it in the shelf then I saw him join me. "Why are you joining in?" I asked as nice as possible . "Cause I'm a gentleman" he replied and I scoffed in disbelief.
"A gentleman doesn't make shady bets. You did"
"That's applying wisdom. It's what I do"
"So then I can conclude that all lawyers are shady"
"They all are" he replied, "It comes with the job description" he replied and I chuckled.
"So I saw your twin yesterday" he chipped in and I turned to him in shock. Chiamanda and I look nothing alike so I wondered how he knew. "How did you know?" I asked, "She was at the firm" "Did you read that up on the internet?"
"No I didn't"
"Bosco we don't exactly look alike" "I know, but I saw her and I asked some persons. She looks a lot more reserved than you do" "And fat too but i see you love them fat"
"Not fat, fleshy

. Girls with flesh are ...." He p aused in thought. "There's something to grab on to unlike girls like you"
"Oh" I paused trying hard not to get angry.
I mean what he will he grab on to? He thinks s*x is like entering a bus on a rocky road. Stupid virgin!
"I love my shape and my boyfriend loves it too." "You have one?" he asked almost as though he was shocked. "I meant that question for the shape and the boyfriend."
"Yes I do mister and a hot one at that. He's an investor, he doesn't base in Nigeria."
"How long have you two been together?"
"Three years now" I smiled.
"You like him right?" "I love him." "How does he cope with your bad mouth?"
"He does. He actually finds me funny. He gets my jokes and laughs at every one of it." I replied dreamingly. I missed him. It's been three months away from him.
"Tell me about yourself"
"We're here to talk about you and help you out"
"I insist you tell me about yourself and it would be rude to decline" "Declining is self choice, i decide not to tell you, it's my godamn life" I spilled then paused looking at him smile at me.
"I still insist. Remember you're supposed to be nice"
"Fine! What's do you want to know about?" I asked, "Why are you at war with your sister?" "Where did you get that ridiculous news from? I'm not at war with my sister"
"A trusted source of mine said otherwise"
I told him I wasn't at war with my sister.
Ever since I was sent out of house, dad sent Chiamanda to school abroad. Out of spite! I'm sure of it. We lost contact not until she came back. That fondness we had was no longer there. She would look at me as though I'm a stranger. We've never spoken as sisters; not even once.
"I love my sister" i replied almost in tears. I shut my eyes trying to control my tears from dropping.
"We stopped being friends after I got disowned. I love her with every drop of blood in my system"
"Why don't you show it?"
"How can I? She obviously doesn't like me and she looks at me like a stranger cause we grew up apart" "Why?" He asked and I sighed in exasperation. I felt like in was in a freaking interview.
"Psychology... That's what happened" "I don't understand"
"Dad wanted me to be a doctor but I became a psychologist instead. I pursued something I had passion for" "You would have made a horrible doctor" he commented and I laughed.
"Death rates would have definitely increased" I added and he laughed. "I love psychology but dad didn't; Mr. Perfect" I scoffed then felt tears roll down my cheeks. Just as I used my fingers in cleaning it, I saw him pass a white hankerchief to me.

Bosco's POV

I saw Dr. Sommy at her weakest today. She got so emotional when I asked to know why she wasn't on good terms with her sister. I felt sorry for her. I could relate in a kind of way.
I knew how it felt to actually be away from relatives you love. I've read several biography on Dr. George Kalu but they usually skip the part about his daughters.
I wanted to know why she got separated from her sister. I was as curious as a cat. I felt even more sorry when she told me it was because she followed her passion.
Law was a passion for me. I grew up visiting the firm, I learnt a lot even before i completed my senior secondary school. That was how the journey began. I didn't see myself doing anything apart from law.
"I loved psychology but dad didn't; Mr perfect" she replied and I saw tears roll down her cheek.
I quickly brought out a hankerchief from my inner pocket then handed it over to her. She looked at me closely,  I thought she wouldn't collect it but she did anyways. She wiped her tears with it.
"I admire a soul that runs after passion. I would never impose on my children." I said to him and she scoffed. "Easier said than done" she paused sitting on a high stool close to the shelf.
"You went after your father's passion" "I didn't" I replied then paused. "Wait how did you know my father was a lawyer?" I asked.
"I thought you said you didn't know me" I pressed on and she  blew her nose in my handkerchief then handed it over to me.
I gazed repulsively at her, how can someone be  so disgusting. She almost chuckled.
"You can keep it" i replied shaking my head. "How did you know?"
"Don't you ever drop a topic?"
"I don't, now answer the damn question"
"I did a background check on you a night before the appointment. I pretended as though I didn't know you."
"Seriously?" I asked and she laughed. "I just wanted to derive pleasure from making you feel less important"
"You're unbelievably crazy" "And you're...." She paused. She was so close to saying something bad; I felt it.
"I'm what?" I asked grinning.
"Forget it" she replied then chuckled. I wondered why. "What's funny?" I asked. "It's what I have to say" "Say it" "If I say it, I'll lose the bet but it's really really really funny" she replied laughing. She threw her head backwards in intense laughter.
"I'd rather keep you in suspense. You'll never know now" she added and I hissed.
"I'm sorry about your father's death" i added and she scoffed. "He died peacefully for a wicked man" "You don't mean that, he's your father" "A father isn't who gave birth to you, it's the one who took care of you, who paid your fees. Dad never paid my fees"
"You can't judge him using that"
"Like you didn't judge me the very moment you walked into my office." She snapped then raised her head walking over to a drawer removing a bottle of vodka from it.
"I need something really strong." I watched her picked up a glass then poured herself a drink. "Do you care for a drink?" She asked and I declined. I don't drink. I've never been able to hold my liquor.
"He disowned me when I needed him the most . Just when I needed his support. I don't care about it anyway" she cried gulping a glass quarter filled with vodka.
"Can we change the topic?" She requeste d but I disagreed. I wanted to make a point."I'm pretty sure your father didn't mean what he did"
"Oh please!" She poured herself another round.
"You possibly can't be happy that he's dead. I'm pretty sure you miss him"
She raised the glass towards me then drank it. "You have no idea" she replied. I was actually shocked she told me the truth. I expected her to lie or act like she didn't care.
"I missed out of a good life. There were days when there'll be no food to eat in school" she cried, "I bet if Amanda when through such shitty thing. I had to work part-time to get clothes for upkeep. Amanda never suffered like I did"
I was speechless, I had nothing to say. "The annoying thing was when he left his will....dad left me a note" she continued pouring another drink and I grabbed the bottle from her. It seemed like the right thing to do.
"I don't think it's lady-like to drink, you'll get drunk"
"I don't get drunk easily" she replied and I closed the bottle.
A woman walked into the office along with Filda who seemed frightened. I couldn't really denote her emotion.
"I thought you said you were in Imo state" She shouted and I turned to her. She was definitely the lady Dr. Sommy's requested that Filda lie to.
"Mrs. Ajayi" she shut her eyes in shame then gazed at Filda. "I tried to stop her"
"Rita I'm in the middle of a session" "I don't care" the lady replied looking at me. "Sorry sweetheart but I need to talk to Dr. Sommy with immediate effect"
"We'll be over in..." I looked at my wrist watch. "Ten minutes"
"I'm this close to having sex with my cousin Dr. Sommy and he also wants it too but I know it's wrong" she answered shamelessly. I saw Dr. Sommy move towards her.
"I hope you didn't" she asked.
"I want to" she replied and Dr. Sommy slapped her. "Get your slutty self together" she ordered and the lady nodded taking her seat then she turned towards me.
"Is he available?" She asked, "I can go with anything right now. He's hot" she commented and I cleared my throat. "I'll take my leave" I dropped the bottle on the table.
"I'm sorry we didn't focus on your problem?" She apologized and I smiled.
"It's okay" I replied walking out the door.

I went back to the firm. While checking through some cases a friend of mine asked to get solved, the thought of Dr. Sommy crossed my mind.
I didn't understand why her dad would leave her out of the will. The way she cried even with the whole charades and fronts she puts up, I realized she had a soft side.

Read " Hotel Palava " by the same author ( Essien Eno )

. She probably puts ups fronts in order not to become vulnerable.
A call came in from my secretary, mom was in the firm already. "Let her in" I ordered. Shortly after, mom walked in she had a lace gown gown on. She looked radiant.
"Good afternoon mom" I greeted and she s miled.
"I called the office in the morning, you weren't around"
"I had therapy" I replied and she took her seat on a couch in the office then requested i sit close to her.
I sat close smiling at her then she held my hands. "How's therapy going?"
"My therapist has some postulations for my condition"
"And what do you think? Do you think it's going to work?" She asked and I shrugged. I honestly didn't know what answer to give. "I'm sorry for suggesting that you go to a pastor. You should know I'm worried about you"
"I know"
"I want grand children from you my dear. I can't wait and I don't want to die before I see my grandkids"
"You'll see them mom."
"About what Akudo said," "I try not listen to her mom"
"You're not a mistake; I hope you know that. You're the best thing that has ever happened to me"
"I wouldn't have wished for a better mother. Thank you."
