Believe - Episode 2
First Prelim
“Welcome to another exciting season of Olympiad, your favourite mathematics TV quiz show for secondary schools in Heart city,” the quiz master anchoring the competition said, with smiles on his face.
The quiz master is live on stage in Ace TV studios with 6 contestants in front of him and an audience behind them, who sat in rows. Each of the contestants are standing in front of a pulpit with a digital in-built screen on the surface, in which the contestants use in an answering the questions asked
. The quiz master is also standing in front of a pulpit same as the contestants own. The only different is that, he uses his to view the questions and points of the contestants. The 6 pulpits of the contestants are arranged in such a way that it resembles half a circle and the quiz master’s pulpit, at the center of it.
A bigger digital screen is lit up behind the quiz master to display which contestants got a question correctly and who did not. The screen also displays the contestant’s points after each round. This is done for the benefit of both the audience on stage and at home.
“In the last seven years, Olympic Foods has been sponsoring mathematics competition at junior and senior secondary school level and the reason is very simple”. The quiz master raised a finger

. “One is to identify, nurture and reward excellence in the field of mathematics…” He further explains the benefit and rewards for this season’s Olympiad.
After he finished, the audience clapped their hands in appreciation.
“It’s the first episode of season eight and the 8th year of partnership between Olympic Foods and mathematics which grow stronger every year.” He used his index finger to slide across the screen in front of him. “We have our six contestants in the junior category. They fought over a thousand students to be here and being here, is an achievement.”
The audience applauded the contestants as the spotlight lit on each and every one of them.
“Now, the students you are about to meet are brave, bold and probably the best mathematician in their school. That’s why I will say this.” He took a deep breath. “There are no losers here.”
The audience clapped their hands again.
“But remember, we only need two out of this six in the semi-finals. Who is it going to be?” He looked serious, then smiled. “Finally, let’s meet our contestants.”
The spotlight shines on the first contestant as he introduces himself.

. “My name is Princewill from Royal kiddies secondary school.”
“How are you doing Princewill?” the quiz master asked.
“Fine sir”. He smiled and waved his pen.
The spotlight again, shines on the second contestant. “I’m Anuoluwa from First Apex schools,” she said very quickly.
The quizmaster mimicked Anu and smiled. “Anuoluwa, why did you say that very fast?”
She thought for a while and said, this time slowly, “Because I can’t wait for this competition to get started.”
“Oh!” The quizmaster laughed. “Well, Anuoluwa. It’s about to get started. So take a deep breath.”
She took a deep breath and the spotlight shines on the next contestant. In this manner, the remaining four contestants introduced themselves. They are Khalid from Bejide College, Olabode from Soundhope Schools, Abiodun from Lofty Heights Academy and finally Ayomide from Nightingale Academy.
After they had all introduced themselves, the quiz master welcomed them all to the first preliminary stage of the 8th Mathematics Olympiad.
