“That Anu is really fast,” Funmi remarked just seconds after Anu’s 60 seconds of fame ended. “I doubt if Ayomide could reach that score.”

“Which score?” Bidemi who was also a part of the group interjected. She hadn’t spoken a word since they arrived. “Is it not just 65 points she had?"

“What about the 60 points she had in round 1,” Adura objected.

“Making a total of 125 points,” Funmi added quickly.

Emmanuel bit his lower lips in frustration . He has come to respect and trust Ayo so much ever since she won the annual mathematics quiz in JSS 2, even against Bidemi. “You guys should stop doubting her,” he finally said a piece of his mind.

“Senior Emma,” Al-ameen called. “Better leave them alone. They would be surprised when she wins. Jealous people.”

“It’s okay!" Perfect said loudly, feeling irritated that they had to start debating Ayo’s fate. They had made her lost count of how many questions Ayo got correctly. She faced Emmanuel. “Emma, do you know how many questions she had answered right?”

“I should be the least person to ask.” He grinned. “Their noise made me lost count.”

“Same with me.” She dropped her face

. “But I think I’ve counted 13.”

“If that’s so, it’s bad for her. She just have about 7 seconds left.”

“Wow! Thank God,” Perfect exclaimed. “She got another one right.”

“And yet another one,” Emmanuel added almost immediately. “That’s 15 correct answers if our estimation is right.”

“Krrr” was the sound that came from the stage to signify Ayo that her 60 seconds round was up.

“Well done, Ayomide,” the quiz master commended.

. “Olabode, are you ready for your Olympiad 60 seconds of fame?” he asked the next contestants.

“Yes, quiz master,” Olabode replied eagerly.

“Okay, your 60 seconds of fame starts now.”

At that instant, Olabode’s screen displayed the first question with the countdown timer.

59… 58… 57… the timer continued counting down as Bode provided answered to every questions displayed until the last few seconds.

3… 2… 1… Krrr.

“Well done Olabode,” the quiz master commended Bode also and the audience applauded him. “Olabode, how do you feel after your round?”

“Tensed.” Bode sighed.

“Well as tensed as you are, I’m pleased to inform you that after your round.” He took a momentarily glance at his screen. “You answered 12 questions correctly and have 60 points.” He took a deep breath and continued, “At the end of both round, you have a total of 120 points. You’ve done well for yourself.”

Bode smiled faintly. He isn’t sure if he should be excited or not, even with the numerous hand clapping, he still wasn’t sure.

“Bode, are you pleased,” the quiz master asked.

“I’m quite unsure, quiz master.”

He shifted his attention to Anu. “Well Anuoluwa, you made it to the semifinals with a total of 125 points.”

A deafening applaud could be heard once again from the audience. Anu smiled in relief. Bode withdrew the smile on his face at once which prompted the quiz master to glance at him.

“Olabode, I can see your smile had vanished. What happened?”

“Nothing,” he lied. In truth he wasn’t happy anymore since Anu qualified, there was little hope for him against Ayo. He had watched her answer her questions in the 60 seconds without faltering unlike Anu.

“No hope for Ayomide,” Oreoluwa murmured.
