Simon:

As soon as i alight my car a tiny woman attack me. She starts

scratching and slapping at me. I manage to hold her hands.

"What is wrong with you!" i yell in her face. She doesn't look familiar at all.

"Its your fault. What did you do to her to make her commit suicide?" she rant.

"What?" i ask puzzled.

"Caroline was supposed to meet you, the day she went missing. Now she

is dead . You are a monster. All she did was fall in love with you"

"fall in love with me?!" i scream in her face.

"would someone who is love with me, seduce my cousin for just 1million

naira?" i continue.

"Your cousin?. Who the fuck is your cousin?. Caroline was smitten with

you. She gave you her virginity for goodness sake! Why would she

seduce your cousin?"

"tell that to the 1million naira sitting in her account. Caroline

betrayed me when she found out about my engagement to Beatrice. She

took money from my cousin and disappeared"

"what do you mean disappear?. Caroline has been in lagos with her sick

Mother who was getting a heart surgery. And that money in her account

is the money kelvin mistransfered into her account"

"this just shows that you don't know Caroline at all." She says and

force her hands off my grip.

"You are disgusting!" she spit out and storm off. I watch as she walk

toward the gate before she stop in her track and turn back to face me.

"Caroline was carrying your baby before she died. I hope you can deal

with the guilt of killing your own child" she says. I almost don't

catch her words before she leaves. Almost. But when her words register

in my confuse brain, i run after her. I catch up with her just outside

my gate.

"What did you just say?" i ask. She just shrug and continue walking.

The anger in me explode and i grab her by the shoulders. She gasp in

pain but i don't let up. I am seeing red right now.

"What. Did. You. Just. Say!" i yell in her face and she whimper.

"let go. You are hurting me" she plead weakly

"i would do more than hurt you if you don't explain to me what you

said moments ago. Are you just playing with my head? Please tell me

that was a joke"

"joke? Joke? You are really a lunatic. Let. Go!" she shove me and i

stagger back. She gets free and start walking away.

"Please" i fall on my knees, defeated and beg. This gets to her and she

walks back to me and raise me up.

"The last time i talked to Caroline, i was advising her to tell you

about the baby. She didn't want to but i told her her baby had the

right to your money. Do you know what she said?" she asks and i shake

my head.

"she didn't care about the money. She was going to raise the baby on

her own. Caroline was never about money." she says and i burst out in

tears. I don't care if guys are not supposed to cry. This is just too

much. Why would kelvin lie about the money. Who do i believe?.

Caroline. My sweet Caroline. And my child. The pitiful child that had

a stupid father like me. I sent them to their death.

"Caroline" i sob out and the lady engulf me in a hug and we cry

together for Awhile before she pulls away.

"I was just so angry, i wanted to blame someone so i came here. You

must be in more pain than me. Hell, you lost a child. The person that

should be blamed is that nuisance of a guy she called her brother. Can

you believe he finally came home to mourn his sister. He never liked

her but now that she's dead, he cries more than her parents."

"Thank you for telling me all this" i say.

"you deserved to know" she says and squeeze my shoulder.

"I better go now" she says then give me a sad smile.

"goodbye"

"What kind of service do you people offer in this stupid place! I said

get me another bottle of this stuff!" i yell at the bartender.

"Sir, you have had enough. I have to cut you off now." he says

"I'll pay. I have money. Just one mores pleash?" i slur

"that was what you said since the last four bottles."

"get me that drink! Do you kno-w wh-o i ams?"

"am sorry but i cant sir"

"even if i beg? Do you know what I've been through today? I just

learnt that i killed my own child and the only woman i have ever

loved. Atleast have pity on me" i beg. He shakes his head, no and i

sigh.

"Ok whatever. I'll just beg that guy over there." i stand up from the

bar stool and stagger to a table with abundant drinks.

"Hi" i greet the man and his lady friend with a big smile.

"can i take one of these?" i ask and wink at the lady and she giggle.

"Are you flirting with my date?" he asks and i just shrug. He grabs my

collar and raise me off the ground. He throws me on the table and i

crash with the drinks but i don't fail to rescue one. I drain all the

content of the bottle i rescued before i realise that its water. The

lady rushes to my side quickly which makes the angry man angrier.

picks me up again with my collar and send me to the ground with a

blow.

"Wow! I cant feel my nose"i grab my nose. I relish the pain. Atleast

its not as bad as the one in my heart. The angry man is coming at me

again when the bouncer hold him back.

"Let him go!" i yell and i am about to stand up when the bartender grab my hand.

"Lets get you home" he says and i pout.

"I don't want to" i say but he keeps dragging me till we are outside.

The cool air hit me and this sober me up a little. The bartender hail

a taxi for me and i thank him. I slip some thousand naira notes into

his hands before i enter the taxi and give him the address.

"Oga come down, we don reach" the driver says and i blink my heavy eyes

open. This isn't my house.

"Where are we?" i ask

"this na where you say make i drop you. Abeg come down make i go find

normal customer." i reluctantly alight the car after giving the driver

his money. I walk around the area for minutes before i realise that i

am in caroline's neighbourhood. I am about to hail another taxi when i

see caroline's brother crying in front of their house. My anger blows

up again and i rush to him and punch his face.
