A woman's dilemma - Episode 37

 

Amy:

"Take a seat Amy." Weirdly, I feel he sounds different from earlier. I nervously take a seat in front of his desk and fiddle with my fingers on my lap.
"Are you fiddling with your hands under the desk Amy?" The way he says my name sends a shiver up my spine and I let my hands down.
"You're always a nervous mess. It's not something a nurse should be." He says and I frown . So we are back to that? Does this man have multiple personality disorder? I let my eyes stray up to his face and the scar hasn't been more obvious. 
"Actually, the reason you're here is, I really want to apologize." He says and I look away from his scar.
"Apologize?"
"Yeah. For judging you without a chance. That was wrong. You're an amazing student Amy. Here, I graded your test. And for someone who just started, you didn't suck." He smirks at me and it's not the wide smile he kept giving me this morning but it wakes a bunch of butterflies in my stomach. I know that's as much as a compliment I'll get from him. I take the paper from him and grin at the 16 I see on it. Almost perfect. His unique handwriting highlights a few things on it

. I grin sheepishly at the paper.
"I kind of got your file from the supervisor this morning. You were a first class student. That blew my mind away. Why didn't you finish? You surely have enough money to be able to get into this school so late in the semester." He says and I lick my suddenly dry lips.
"My friend got me this spot. She's the wife of one of the governorship candidate." A pang starts inside me at the reminder of Frances's death.
"She's the one on the news last night. That made you freak out and run." He says and I nod even if that wasn't exactly why I ran.
"So can I ask why you stopped school, Amy?" I let my eyes prod his and his face relaxes me for unknown reasons. I didn't want to go into all the details with him earlier when we met but right now, I feel like I can tell him anything. He relaxes me just as much as he makes my heart race. I tell him everything that happened from my father's death and how my mother was pushed out. Her stroke and all of that.
"I'm so sorry Amy. I feel like such a dick. You deserve this more than anyone else." He says, his hand brush over mine and I inhale a sharp breath at the feeling it ignites inside me. Our eyes remain on each other before he looks away.
"I'll put a good word in to your new professor. I see you topping your class Amarachi." Come on! He's killing me with that smirk of his and the way he says my full name.
"I don't know what to say."
"Say thank you. That's supposed to be how it works." He says and I nod.
"Of course, thank you Mr Benedict."
"Call me Ben. I guess since we ain't going to be student and Prof to anymore." He says and I blush at the reminder that I called him that earlier.
"Walk me out to my car. I have something for you." He stands and I follow suit. He picks up his bag and walks ahead of me. I take the opportunity ogle him from behind. His jeans hug his ass too perfectly. And his shoulders are a mile wide. He is so big without seeming scary.
"Here we are." He pulls on sunglasses when we reach his car and he looks yummy.
"I took the initiative to drop off the books you left in my car." He turns away from me to open the back seat Of his car.
"Thank You." I say to his back. He pulls his head out of his car and hands me three books I don't think I've seen before.
"Secret weapons." He says when I eye them.
"They are first editions." He says when I sniff the book and smile at the smell of old books.
"Take them. If you are able to read all three of them, you should be right on track with your mates without stress."
"I don't know what to say! Thanks so much!" I jump on him excitedly and freeze when I realize what I just did. I pull away quickly, my heart running at several miles per hour.
"I'm sorry. I was just so excited." I say sheepishly.
"Hey bro! You ready to leav__Amy? " I'm drawn to look back at whoever sounds so like Mr Benedict and I'm met with the same face staring at me. Wait not the same face. He has no scar.
"Hey baby. You met my brother. Hope he wasn't scaring you. He is the broody one of the family." This one says and I stare at both of them in horror.
"You have a twin brother." I gasp at Mr Benedict. He shrugs while his brother comes to stand beside him. The resemblance is uncanny and I'm confused as hell. Something tells me Mr Benedict isn't the one I met this morning.
"Yeah. Meet my brother. Benson." Mr Benedict introduces and my eyes widen. 
"Ben__" B.W.  Mr Benedict isn't my B.W? 
"Hey we already met. The woman I was telling you about before you literally crash our car in your drunken state years ago." Benson says this in a jocular manner but I can see the words cut through Mr Benedict.
"Nice to know you found your soulmate man. Can we go to the airport already?" Mr Benedict completely closes down on me.
"Airport?" I find myself asking.
"Mr basketball star here just took a deal with his former team." Benson explains.

. Wow. He's leaving. Is he ever coming back? 
"Not that it concerns you. But no, I probably wouldn't." Mr Benedict answers and I realize I answered out loud.
"Don't be rude." Benson says to Mr Benedict. 
"I'm driving myself if you won't take me to the airport." He doesn't even look at me as he says it and walks on to the passenger side of the car.
"I'm coming asshole!" Benson yells after him with a chuckle.
"He's always like this. I'm sorry I have to go now honey. We'll see tonight?" Benson asks and I nod absentmindedly.
"Good. I'll send a car to get you. Just send me your address later. I can't wait to wow you with my culinary artistry." I get his smile again and I see the difference now.
"Are we leaving anytime soon?!" Mr Benedict yells from the front of the car and Benson groans.
"Have to go." A quick peck is placed against my cheeks before I can register his movement. I watch him hurry to his car. The ignition starts but I don't get to see Mr Benedict's face before​ the car zooms off.
