*** "Dad"

Skylar whispered for the second time.

Slowly, Cameron's grip on her loosened and using the opportunity, she stepped forward and stood beside Cameron.

Her eyes weren't deceiving her. 

A few metres away from her stood the woman who'd birthed and nurtured her and before her stood the man who'd taught her everything she knew.

The man who would tuck her into bed and sing her lullabies anytime her mother refused to tuck her in.

The man who would urge her to join him in the kitchen while they prepared food to eat and made a mess of the kitchen when her mother was away on a trip. The food wasn't always delicious, she recalled.

It was either overcooked, salty, burnt or undercooked yet they always ate it nevertheless and would order a takeout after. . The man who always left his workplace to come pick her up from school because he wanted to spend time with her and didn't want her arriving home with a school bus.

The man who she'd looked up to while growing up.

Her hero.

She would always tell him Superman existed because he was her Superman, her companion, best friend, father.

And when his burnt clothes and wallet that held his ID, money and a photograph of her had been handed to her after that plane crash, it broke her. She was lost. 

A part of her died when the news of her tfstger reached her.

But now, here he was.

Standing before her, in the flesh, healthy, hale and hearty.

He still looked the same except for the slight grey hair he was spotting.

"Dad"

she called out, griping onto Cameron's arm for support when her legs wobbled.

He turned to her and gave her a smile.

. She broke down into loud sobs. Cameron was there to catch her, hold her, hug her.

The adrenaline was beginning to wear off and the pain in his abdomen was becoming more and more evident.

The cloth he'd tied to his wound was doing little to nothing stopping the blood flow.

Nevertheless, he wrapped his arms around his wife as she sobbed.

"T..they're alive Cameron"

she cried into his chest.

He c*ressed her wet hair

"They are princess. They are.. There now.. Shh..." He hushed, rubbing her back soothingly with the other hand. He was blinking rapidly, trying to clear the black spots that were starting to form in his line of vision.

He felt himself slowly slipping.

He wanted to close his eyes. He wanted to sleep so bad.

"You know.." Grey continued after he managed to tear his gaze away from his daughter.

"Never in a million, did it ever cross my mind that you'll be capable to putting a bullet in my chest and throwing me into the ocean to die"

he shock his head.

"Has It ever crossed your mind that maybe you were too dumb to know?"

Rebecca countered, glaring at him, occasionally glancing over at Park who still lay unmoving.

She hoped he was still alive.

God she hoped he was.

Grey nodded solemnly.

"Yea, perhaps you are right. I was too dumb. Head over heels in love with you that's why I couldn't see it. Even when you were never at home. Even when you were always on business trips, never having time for your daughter or I. I thought you were a busy woman. A woman with aim who was wildly chasing her dreams and so I had to support you. Even when you always refused to tuck our daughter in. I thought perhaps you were tired from a hard day's work. Even when you were never around to prepare us breakfast, lunch or dinner. That's how dumb I was Rebecca. Too dumb and too blind to see you for who you really were. Our marriage wasn't perfect neither was it bad and I was willing to do everything I could to make it work but you singlehandedly destroyed it all Rebecca. And I never got the chance to ask you why"

Rebecca snorted, rolling her eyes at his speech.

"I thought you were the man for me Grey. I really did. But you were too soft. There was no way I could run an empire with such a man by my side. A divorce would have sufficed you know, but no. You decided to call the police on me. And I did what I had to do to survive. I shot you, yet you survived. Too bad"

she shrugged nonchalantly. From behind her, Skylar who had overhead them gasped loudly. Her mother? Shot her father? She entangled herself from Cameron's arms.

"Divorce huh?"

Grey laughed humorlessly shaking his head.

"Divorce me for who? Him?"

He pointed at Park. Instinctively, Rebecca glanced in Park's direction and then like a crazed woman, forgot all about her conversation with Grey and rushed to Park, cradling him in her arms.

"Park my love, babe wake up. Can you hear me? Babe".

Wtf!. Julian literally gagged at the horrendous sight before him.. Rebecca and Park? Lovers?.. That's messed up. Two psychopaths in love with each other. Cameron wasn't left out either.. Skylar stared, shocked, dazed.. Her mother and Park are lovers? She fought the urge to vomit... Wait.. Hold up.. If her mother and Park were lovers.. And she tried to kill her own husband, this meant... She has no problem committing murder. And she was involved with Park too. Meaning, they were both running this human trafficking business. Is that what she meant by running an empire?. She suddenly recalled her mother telling her she knew she was married. Meaning all this while Park was using her, she was aware...she was aware.

"You...you b*tch! It was you all along wasn't it? You watched me suffer while Park used me isn't it?!"

Skylar screamed lunging for Rebecca who dropped Park gently and got up.. She held up her hand.

"Hold up babe girl, I had no idea Sean had a hole-in-heart. If I had known, I would have paid for his bills. He is my grandson after all"

"Don't you f*cking call him your grandson you witch!"

Skylar gripped her hair and tugged at the roots, laughing humorlessly, tears streaming down her cheeks as she shook her head... "I can't believe this. My very own mother. Is the leader of the gang that held me captive for years and lover to the man who'd made my life a living hell. You.. You watched them kidnap innocent girls, deceive them and traffic them, prostitute and make them use drugs. You, a woman watched them do that to your fellow women. You're despicable. I curse the day I was born into your arms! You make me want to puke! You're scum to the earth!"

Skylar spat.. Rebecca raised her hands in a bid to hit her when she caught her mother's hand midair.

"Touch me just once Rebecca and you'll f*cking regret ever birthing me"

she seethed. Rebecca fumed.. She knew she should have aborted her. The little b*tch. Today she was all grown up and talking back at her. Angrily, she yanked her hand from her daughters grip.

"I knew I should have aborted you years ago. I should have drank f*cking bleach to get rud of you"

she spat Skylar shrugged, feeling numb.

"Yeah. Well maybe that's the worst mistake you could have ever made. Letting me live to come back and fight. After all, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger right?"

Skylar glanced up at her father as she uttered those words. He smiled. Suddenly there was slight sounds of siren blaring around the compound. Rebecca's head snapped up. Sirens. Police sirens.. Sh*t. "You called the police? You called the police on me?" She yelled.

"Actually, I did"

Julian replied smugly and just about the same time, Cameron groaned, sinking to his knees... He couldn't hold it any longer. He was sleepy. Too sleepy.. Skylar turned, eyes widening at her husband's condition. Frantically, she rushed to him, catching him just in time before he fell flat on the floor. His heavy weight caused her to lose her footing, falling along with him with his head on her thighs.. "Cameron? Baby open your eyes. Cameron please" she tapped his cheeks softly, multiple times.. Cameron only groaned in response. "Princess"

"No..don't say a word.. The police is here.. There's an ambulance too. Hang on baby. Please, hang on. Please. You're gonna be alright. Just hang on. Please"

she sobbed, applying pressure to his wound.. He jerked. "I..I love you princess"

"I love you too Cameron.. Hang on my love. You're gonna be okay.. Hang in there please"

He coughed, lifting his hand in an attempt to caress her face only for it to fall limply at his side. His eyes closing, giving in to unconsciousness.. "Cameron! Cameron open your eyes baby please. Don't do this please. You promised to come back to me. Get up!"

she sobbed, shaking him violently.. She lifted her head, eyes frantically darting to and fro

"What are you all standing there for? Somebody help me. Please. Julian!!... I.." She paused when her eyes met her mother secretly backing away, trying to escape... Anger filled her.. Slowly, she eased Cameron onto the ground, snatched the gun holding Grey and aimed it at Rebecca.. "Stop right there Rebecca!"

She continued walking... There was no way Skylar was going to let her escape, not after everything she's done. To her and a thousand other girls. "I said stop right there else.. " "Else what?"

Rebecca spun around to face her, a lazy smirk appearing on her face.

"You're gonna shoot me? Is that it?"

She rolled her eyes.

"You don't even know how to use a gun. Just look at you, your hands are shaking like a leaf"

Skylar looked at her hands.

True enough, they were shaking.

But not from fear. It was shaking from anger. Too much anger she didn't know she was capable of feeling.. This woman was the cause of her pain.

She was the cause of a thousand other girl's pain.

Using them to earn money.. She was the reason her husband was at the brink of his death.

Right now she wasn't looking at her mother.

No. She was looking at a murderer, a human and drug trafficker.

"Do not take another step Rebecca. The police are going to barge in here any second and you're going to stand there and wait for them to come arrest you".

Rebecca laughed at that.

"My my. You really are as hilarious as your husband aren't you? Let me tell you something Skylar dearest, I'm going to walk out of here and neither you or anyone will stop me"

"I will stop you. Even if I have to shoot you to do that"

Skylar challenged.

"You're gonna shoot me? Your mother? Really Sky? I taught you better than that.." "You ain't teach me nothing Rebecca!"

she snapped.

"You shot my father, your husband, father to your daughter in an attempt to kill him after all. 

I guess I can shoot you based on that.

It really runs in the blood doesn't it!"

she shrugged. Rebecca shook her head and turned, walking at a faster pace.

"I said stop Rebecca. Don't push me!"

She clicked off the safety of the gun.

Rebecca fumed, reaching into her bathrobe, retrieving a small revolver she always kept just in case. She had to do something....

. By the look of fire in Skylar's eyes, she wasn't going to let her walk out of here.. Park was already down.. And she'd rather die than stay here and let herself get arrested.

No f*cking way. She had to do something and fast.

Her daughter was going to be her nemesis.

She pulled out the revolver completely, fingering the silencer she had attached to it.

She spun.. Skylar saw it beforehand. Her own mother had pulled out a gun.. To shoot her.. Her heart sank at the realisation.. Rebecca really did have no motherly instincts.

Not everyone was born to be a mother.

Her mother was ready to shoot her without second thoughts.. She had shot her father too once.

Her heart ached.

She was still her mother.

The woman who birthed her.

As f*cked up as it was, she still loved Rebecca.

Maybe she'd never stop loving her.

Skylar has no time to think.

When Rebecca spun around, a gun in hand, Skylar fingers automatically moved. She pulled the trigger and fired.
