Tomorrow - Episode 18

 

The news going about brought another scare to the occasion but normality was restored when one of his uncle came to announce that it was a wrong information that his mother was okay. The burial finished and everyone left for their various homes. 
    Uncle Charles and Jason left the village to aunty Joyce's house who had gone immediately after the burial with the new baby. At her place  Ngozi has stopped crying, she said it was a reality that she has embraced . But how will they cope with with the baby girl? 
    In the morning when they were about to leave for Lagos Aunty Joyce assured him that she will be properly taken care of that he should not bother himself thinking of what could be going on with his sister. Jason accepted his fate and waved her goodbye as his uncle drove off. 
   They got to Lagos late due to small traffic they encountered on the way. Martha opened the gate for them to go into their compound. 
"Charlie darling welcome, how was the journey"?
"please am very hungry, after eating i will answer all your waec questions".
Jason greeted but she  ignored him, he went inside not minding whether she replied him or not. As far as he was concerned nothing will disturb him again, not even Martha

. He has made up his mind to leave life Joyfully  for no one knows Tomorrow maybe it could be his turn next.
   He exchange pleasantries with his cousins and asked them how they have been faring since he left. Blessing jokingly said it was hectic that they just discovered that their mum is lazy. 
Jason told her never to say that again."Are you not big enough to manage this home eh Blessing".
"I am but she wouldn't allow, maybe because she did a little of what she's putting you through when she was in her teens, that's why she is pampering us".
"That's enough please go and continue watching your cartoon". Table was set for dinner, they all ate and greeted each other good night. Jason was just about to catch a glimpse of sleep when he heard his name. 
" So Jason you can't wash all  this plates before going to bed"?
"Am tired i can't this night but i do it  tomorrow morning before school".
Martha laughed, so Jason you now have the nerve to respond to me right?  Shey it's your dead mother that has transferred her liver to boost yours? 
He pretended like he has slept off. Martha left angrily to report to her husband who turned deaf ears to her. 
Jason got to school the next day with Love  beside him like they were newly married. On the assembly ground, the principal called him out so that everyone can say whatever they have to say to him in order to avoid interruption during classes. 

After 4yrs Jason and his mates sat for senior school final exams, which they passed well. He was given a scholarship to go further abroad but Martha signed against it that it' wasn't possible for Jason to accept the scholarship, she never said anything about it to her husband. 
 Uncle Charles called to congratulate him, he had planned that Jason will go to one of the top federal university in Nigeria. Jason picked University of Jos because he wanted to be far away from home. He was admitted but  Martha convinced the husband that he should accept that of Lagos polytechnic where he can go and come back during weekends.  
Jason laughing at her when she told him after his uncle had also informed him. "It is very clear that it's her, first scholarship and now my dream of going into a university".
  
Love and Jason meeting for the last time on her house until when there path crosses again as she will be travelling out of the country to further her education. 

"Jason i don't really know what would have become of me if we didn't meet in Eko secondary school. I have grown to love you so much, that i can't deny and am sure you do too. I will forward some of the money i have saved to your account so that you can use it for your Up keep and don't forget your words "Tomorrow" no one knows because all this Martha is doing may just be the finishing touches you need for that awesome tomorrow we have always dreamt about and no one can stop us".
  "Love i love you too and please just be good, i know you will make your parents and i proud, never bother yourself that much about me, i will absolutely be fine". They hugged and were were kissing when Love's mother opened the door.
