The Odds Are Against Me - Episode 26

My wife was back home from work, and she had removed the suit, shirt and trouser she wore. I stared at her as she removed everything one after the other. She was facing the mirror and she noticed I had been staring at her. She turned back and smiled.

"What?," I asked.

"Why have you been staring at me?," she replied.

"Don't you know stares to me, is akin to the love I have for you?," I said.

"This one is more than love," she said and moved closer to the bed. She flung the pillow that laid on my laps to the other side of the bed, and crawled up to me seductively. She had only bra and pant on. She wanted to kiss me, and as she moved her lips closer to mine, I pulled away quickly.

"Really, Afamefuna? What was that for?," she said. She called me by my name whenever she was angry.

"Yes dear, it has not reached to the anger mode. Cheer up. I have a good news for you,", I said. She shushed me and wanted to bark, I placed one of fingers on her lips and drew her quickly, closer to me. We locked lips and had some minutes of kissing.

"Oh, get off me," she said, and pushed me off her, then drifted away. She stood up from the bed and moved back to the mirror. She faced the mirror trying to remove her earrings.

"Babe, just swear that wasn't the best kiss you have ever received from me or any guy you dated before marrying me," I said to her in a low tone.

"You are crazy. You say this virtually every time. Stop hyping yourself," she said. 

"Okay, I have heard you. I think I was saying something before," I said.

"Sorry you weren't saying anything. I was the one asking you a question. Why were you staring at me?", she asked facing me.

"Okay, I have a good news for you. My eyes was fixated at you because I couldn't get enough of you not until I break the good news," I said.

"Okay, speak, I'm all ears," she said.

"Babes, I won a jackpot," I said.

"Oh really?", she said and sat on the bed, then laid down. She had worn her long flowing fluffy night gown.

"Yes, I was employed by Ms. Awoyemi again. I opened up to her on what I am doing after a long time of our usual conversations, and luckily she gets similar contracts in bulk. The pay is quite huge; four hundred thousand Naira every month," I said.

"Oh, yes! You worth every good thing you are getting," she said.

"Thank you my ever supporting wife. I'm about taking some online certifications on advertisements and also learn some things that will help me move the company forward," I said. She cuddled me, and I held her tightly and we had sex.

It was a Saturday morning and Bella was getting married. Funmi had been telling me about the wedding. She got Asoebi which was sold at fifty thousand naira.

"That's some huge amount of money," I said.

"Don't be like that. This is a high class wedding and it will see lot of dignitaries in attendance. Her husband to be is the current commissioner of police in Lagos," she said.

"I know," I replied.

"And Bella has been a great friend so far," she said again.

"Yea, she is really a friend to lean on", I said. Bella had different price tags for the three asoebi's for her wedding. The highest was sold at hundred thousand naira, followed by fifty thousand naira and then twenty thousand naira.

That Saturday, I was already kitted in my aso ebi and sat on the sofa in the sitting room. Funmi was still in the bed room sitting down, and facing the mirror while trying to apply makeups.

"You have been wasting time. The church event starts by 10:00AM before reception and this is 9:15AM," I said.

"Give me like fifteen minutes more, I'll be there soon. I need to look good for this wedding. You know we will be sitted on the high table, same as Sheila and her husband", she said.

"Okay, Na you sabi. I'm ever ready for whatever you want", I said. She stayed more than fifteen minutes before she was done, and entered the sitting room after getting dressed..

"Oh God, you look sumptuous," I said.

"I can't spend that much time in the bed room getting dressed and will look haggard," she said. We laughed. I told Bisi to take the children to the back of the car, while I held Funmi by her hands as we stepped out. We got outside, I opened the front door of the car and she entered. I entered too, the gateman opened the gate for me and I drove off.

We got to the church entrance, and we all alighted. I held my children by their hands as we headed into the church, while Funmi followed us closely at the back. Before we entered the church building, she tapped me, and I looked back.

"Who is that? Am I seeing well?," Funmi said pointing at someone.
