The God And His Bride - Episode 1

 

We are only scared of the things we can't see... But they see us and they aren't scared

Present. 

"Are you going to sit in here all mopey and sad all day?"My best friend Mila asks and I turn around, wrapping my blankie over me. 

"Is that even going to be enough for me to do?" I ask when she pulls it away from over my body. 

"Star, get your ass up" She says. 

"Why?" I ask. 

"You can't sit in bed all of your break and expect to find a man who likes you in this room" She says, pouring salt all over my open wound. 

"I'm liked by no men, I'm manless" I say, with so much bitterness and.. Is that pain? 

It's safe to say that at the ripe age of 25,I'm completely boyfriendless, husbandless, even male bestie less. 

Why is my life like this? I wanna date too! I sigh and plop back on my bed at that thought . Mila sighs and lies her self on my body, who is this person? I ask myself as I slap her butt to get her to move. 

"Come on, get up, stop being a cry baby and let's go out dancing" 

"Oh, no, I'm not in the mood" 

"Well, you have to be, I came all the way from my house to yours so you have to get up and get dressed" She says and I roll my eyes. 

One would think I invited her, I did no such thing, she came to my house all on her own and of her own accord. 

Why do I have to go dancing with her just because she wants to try to get over another one of her boyfriend? 

And don't think I don't know what her deal. Is, she just broke up with one of her boy toy and now she's looking to fill in the blank space. 

My door opens and my brother steps in. 

"Knock much?" I ask and he doesn't reply, just plops himself on the bed too and commence to look at the ceiling with us. 

"What's your deal?" Mila asks him and he shakes his head, I'm older to Liang by four years but you won't know it, from how tall and broad he is. 

"What's wrong?" I ask, raising myself up to my elbow. 

"Nothing, I heard you girls talking about dancing, I want to come too" 

"You just barely became legal, you are not leaving this house" 

"I'm Twenty one Star, I'm sure I can go out, drink and fornicate" 

Mila laughs at the word fornicate and Liang throws her a look, she chokes on her laughter. 

I almost begin my own too, although Mila is older than Liang, there's something about him that makes you scared in a way, Mila is a person that cannot be intimidated but when faces with my gorgeous brother, she becomes tongue-tied. 

I roll my eyes and think about it, I've been on my one week break which is going to end tomorrow I haven't done anything fun, I think this is the night I should go out. 

"You know what? Let's do it" I say and Katie squeals a little, Liang exits the room to go get dressed. 

I mean, if I need a man I have to go out and get one myself, I'm not going to get any just sitting here and doing nothing. 

I smile at my thoughts and Mila squeals. 

"It's gonna be a good night!" 

I hope so.

Past. 

2 March, 1992

"That's the star insignia, it's the sign of our elemental god, Alixi, he's the god of all elements. 

The lady selling the souvenirs says to the woman and her husband, she knows a tourist when she sees one and the couple standing in front of her are as touristy as they come. 

"You came for the festival?" Banu, the shop owner asks the woman. 

"Oh yes, we came for our vacation, it hasn't been too long since we got married, I must say it's worth it" She says looking at her husband with a smile. 

She smiles with them, she loved the aura around them, as the daughter of Miko, the goddess of love she could see when two people are truly in love, the couple standing before her were in love. 

She just had to bless them with something, they looked too good together. 

"Come closer let me tell you a secret" Banu says and the woman eyes sparkles as she steps forward, her husband just rolls his eyes in humour. 

"It is said that on the last day of the festival when the gods listen to the prayers of their people, that Alixi the supreme grants a wish of anyone pure in heart" Banu says and the woman nods eagerly, wanting to hear more. 

"If you have an opportunity like this you don't let it go to waste no?" Banu asks and Luci, the woman nods solemnly. 

"So little child, on the 13th hour, wish with all your heart and your wish will come true, his presence will be with you till you die." She says and Luci nods, smiling at the old shopkeeper. 

"How much for this if you are quite done" Marx the husband asks, raising the statuette of a man holding a big sword. 

Banu shakes her head. 

"No child.

. No. No... You must never ask about that god, he's Lucc, the twin brother of Alixi, he's bad news" She says crossing her head with her index fingers. 

"If he is bad new why do you sell a statuette of him?" Luci asks. 

"It is the festival of the gods no? It's a given that we must worship him too, go, take the Alixi sign for free and go away from here, be happy and enjoy, try to stay away from the prying eyes of the gods" She says walking them to the door. 

"Thank you madam" Luci says, Surprised at the generosity of the shop owner. 

Before Luci could pass the threshold Banu holds her back. 

"You must be careful little one, the one you carry shines brightly like the pole star, you must be careful of the dark, it might want to take it away from you, you need all the help you can get Luci, you need to all the help" 

Banu says before letting her go, but not before sending a meaningful glance towards Luci's stomach. 

Luci nods before exiting the shop and walking towards her waiting husband. 

"Marx, I think that woman is a witch, a fairy godmother" 

"Lucia, don't start, we came to this diabolical place to start with, no need to get your head filled with such rubbish" 

"No I mean it Marx, she even knew my name without me telling her and she knew I was pregnant" 

"Lucia, you look as rosy as a cherub, it won't be farfetched to think you are pregnant, she's an old lady I think she is experienced enough to know these things" Marc says to his wife, trying to dispel any form of thought she might be having right then. 

When she suggested they come to the Panchin island for vacation he agreed because he loved to see her smile, he won't be petty and say he isn't enjoying his time, but he's ready to leave this place. 

All the talk of gods and blessing is making him woozy, he's so ready to leave this place. 

"But Marx, how do you explain the fact that she knows my name?" 

"You have a scarf around your neck with your name knitted into it Lucia" Marx says and Luci deflates, her husband had a way of killing the mystery in every story. 

"What ever, it does not mean I won't be doing that prayer and wishing tonight" 

"Suit your self darling, but it must be after I am done with you" 

"Marxxxx" Luci whines but she knows she likes it when ever her husband is done with her. 

As they move and window shop her hand kept going to her stomach, the words of the old lady ringing in her head.

"Do you think she's the one?" Miko asks her daughter. 

"The mother of the chosen? Oh yes? They both shined too brightly not to be" Banu replies her mother. 

"If what you are saying is correct then it must be time, we have to be ready"

Miko says, her hands slowly waving away a little child god who is trying to grab her skirt. 

"Yes mother, we have to be ready, it won't do us well to let what happened last time repeat itself" Banu says and her mother nods. 

Her child is on the same page with her.
