He was not just a giant, but also a great warrior . According to Chief Edward N. Okoye, Anukili was one of the three giant warriors, Enini the warlord led to defeat the invaders, known as Ada-invaders from Ogbaru axis. Anukili was a giant about eight feet tall with enormous strength.  He was the strongest among the giants that the people of Aguleri were terrified of.  Anukili was so huge that any house he entered collapsed. However, he was poor, and cocoyam happened to be the major food the villagers cultivate, but due to Anukili's giant size, he felt hungry easily and hardly got satisfied with what he ate. It happened that his parents were incapable of producing enough food to satisfy him; and that made him change his attitude towards the people of Eziagulu, to the extent that he moved from house to house in search of food.
It was said that any house he went into, he laid the entire family down, placed his mighty legs on them, devoured their food and left

. Sometimes, when he saw people coming back from their farms, he stopped them, collected their cocoyams and gives them to his mother to cook for him to eat. This kept happening because nobody was able to question or challenge him due to his size and strength, so he continued doing it though he did not kill or beat up anyone.
The elders of Eziagulu decided to get him a wife who would farm and cook for him. But the question they asked each other was whose daughter would accept to marry a giant like Anukili. They thought, worried and later concluded to get him a wife outside Aguleri. So they did and brought her to Anukili. Anukili was grateful and accepted her as his wife, promised to be a good husband to her as well as a good father to her children. The woman likewise accepted Anukili as her husband smiling at him, though she was frightened of him. Anukili then thanked the elders who gave them some cocoyams to cultivate before leaving.
After the elders had left, the woman panicked staring at the size of the man whom the elders married her to, his manner of eating and behavior became terrified. She called for the attention of the elders, refusing to stay with Anukili. The elders entreated her not to go and promised her whatsoever she yearned for, but she repudiated and insisted on leaving. Subsequently, she left. And so did the other women they married for him.
Anukili was so powerless over his wives that he could not do anything to impede them from leaving; rather, he blamed himself, thought and worried that this was retribution to him. Nevertheless he never stopped disturbing or harassing the people of Eziagulu.
This continued until one fateful day, the elders gathered secretly to discuss the issue. They concluded that they all must depart Eziagulu for Anukili. At night, while Anukili was asleep, they absconded to Odene transversing the river and settled there.

. Anukili rose up in the morning and could not find anyone. He did not hear the sound of any human either. He called but no one answered, he searched tirelessly but couldn’t find anyone. He wondered where the entire people of Eziagulu might have gone that early morning. He waited to see if they would come back home but they didn’t. Eziagulu became lonely and boring to Anukili, and he started entering hedge plants in search of what he would eat.
After some days, Anukili decided to go to Odene River to have his bath. On getting there, he saw the people of Eziagulu across the river. “So this is where you people are hiding” he muttered. He crossed the river to meet them, and as soon as they saw him coming, they ran into nearby bushes to hide. By the time Anukili got to the other side of the river he couldn’t find anyone. So he said, “you all can hide wherever you wish to, but know that you can’t hide from me, Anukili, I can always locate you all wherever you run to." Afterward, he sat down, devoured their food, rested and entered the river, took his bath and went back to Eziagulu.
