‘’Vuyanzi,’’ Koni’s voice rumbled behind her but Vuyanzi stubbornly refused to turn her back. She was ashamed to face him. Ashamed for all the things she had done. She had betrayed his trust and went ahead to meet up with Juma. Her actions had led to the deaths of innocent people and the attack on Koni and the other warriors. If only she had sat tight and not ventured out in the big city she would not have caused everything.

‘’I can’t Koni . Am ashamed of myself,’’ she burrowed herself deep into the soft furs.

Her bloodied clothes had been removed and she was wrapped in soft furs. She instinctively knew Koni was the one who had tended to her would. She could hardly feel pain of the arrow that had hit her. She distinctly reached for the place where her wound was but her skin was smooth. Completely unblemished. Koni had worked his magic again. Blood had also been wiped from her body and her skin had a scent of scented flowers. It felt like she had been soaked inside rose flowers. She smelled so fresh.

‘’Come on, look at me,’’ Koni pulled her closer to him and Vuyanzi embraced his warmth though she didn’t turn back, ‘’I don’t like talking to your back, I want to look at you when we talk,’’ he nuzzled her neck and Vuyanzi nearly purred like a cat. She had missed his touch, it felt like a lifetime when he touched her

. When they were planning to visit his father and announce their engagement.

‘’Vuyanzi,’’ Koni growled in warning and she slowly turned back to face him. He didn’t release her though, his hold on her tightened slightly.

Vuyanzi could see the marks on his face were fading away leaving behind angry red marks. Without knowing she raised her hands to trace the wounds and Koni nuzzled her hands, his face closed. He had got those marks because of her, fighting for her. No one had ever don’t that for her.

Her hands travelled to his long dreadlocks. He had calmed down and his beast was retreating, his bright yellow eyes were turning the normal deep brown mahogany color. His canines back revealing his flat white neatly arranged teeth. The long dreads was also shortened.

‘’Koni where are we?’’ Vuyanzi asked after staring at him for a while, she was feeling at peace that she hadn’t known for a long time. She decided to talk about something else and not their messed up lives. More like her messed up life. It seemed that everything she did was only worsening the situation.

‘’Inside the caves of Karura forest,’’ he answered kissing her palms, his voice was drowsy. Low and seductive and Vuyanzi’s stomach flipped. Her insides clenching.

‘’Oh, ’she breathed when his hot breath fanned her ear, his tongue snaked and traced her ear lobe, ‘’why did you bring me here?’’ she asked before she begged him to kiss her.

‘’For us to be alone, for privacy. Nobody can find us here,’’ he whispered back and kissed her neck and Vuyanzi whimpered, Koni groaned and pulled her closer to him. Vuyanzi became more aware of their apparent near nakedness. His hard body was pressed close to hers and he was naked like the day he was born. She could feel everything. Everything. Her body warmed up considerably.

‘’Vuyanzi, I need you so badly,’’ he breathed and fully turned her around, Vuyanzi let herself go. She needed him as much as he needed her. She wouldn’t fight the feeling anymore.

He raised his head for a second before his lips descended on hers and Vuyanzi sighed a relief. She welcomed his soft kisses which were turning longer and frantic by the minute. He was kissing her like a man starved for water in a desert. She tightened her hold on his hair and pulled him closer than before.

Koni’s hand rose from her waist and skimmed her heaving br*asts. Vuyanzi deep breaths turned into soft m*ans. Her eyes tightly shut as she sank deeper into the pleasure induced stupor Koni was taking her. She wanted something she didn’t know if she could mention. Koni grabbed the fur that was wrapped around her chest and pulled it down exposing her heaving chest to the warm air inside the cave.

His kisses turned towards her neck as his large, rough and calloused fingers touched her exposed chest and Vuyanzi’s flew open, ‘’Koni,’’ she breathed.

‘’Yes,’’ Koni’s eyes were glazed over and the yellow burn was shining through, this seemed to add fire to Vuyanzi’s ever growing ardor. His eyes were reflecting passion, adoration, lust and love. Vuyanzi was sure her eyes were reflecting the same. She felt nothing but love for Koni. She had loved him for a long time and couldn’t wait to tell him.

‘’Do you want me to stop?’’ he asked his eyes intense on hers for a moment before shifting lower. Her skin heated at his heated look.

Vuyanzi couldn’t form a coherent statement so she just shook her head, she didn’t want him to stop. She didn’t want him to ever stop making her feel this way. Loved. Cherished. Desired. She wanted it all. She wanted all of him.

As Koni was showering with love, the rain continued to fall outside continued to fall in torrent. It hit Vuyanzi that it was too late to stop whatever was happening. To stop the feelings that had been building up in her body for a long time. The tension she had been building up between her and Koni for a long time.

She had lost her woman hood to Koni, his bite on her neck reminded her that she belonged to him. The bonding the shared insured that she could feel his emotions.

Right now that she was with him, she could feel his love, adoration and the feeling of possessiveness he felt towards her. She could say she felt the same way. Koni was hers and no one else’s.

Koni then dropped beside her and pulled her back to his front. Breathing deeply and he softly licked her punctured neck. Vuyanzi deeply breathed and suddenly felt drowsy. Satiated.

So that is what it meant to be a woman? She thought. Then she had been missing out. Yet she felt that it was only Koni who could make her feel this way.

‘’Did I hurt you?’’ he asked after a while, his voice deep and washing over her, Vuyanzi could feel his apprehension behind the question.

‘’A bit,’’ he flinched, ‘’but I enjoyed it,’’ she blushed and hid her eyes inside the warm furs that he had thrown on top of them.

Koni laughed, ‘’it’s too late to be embarrassed about it,’’ he pulled the furs away from her face and turned her head so that she could face him. Vuyanzi glowered in his laugh. She realized she had never seen him laugh. Their encounters were rarely filled with light moments. He had a hearty laugh that seemed to rumble from deep inside his chest.

Vuyanzi wondered what next.

‘’I love you Vuyanzi Amani, my bride. Please agree to be my wife?’’ Koni asked with all the seriousness on his face. He interlocked their fingers together and kissed the back of her palm.

Vuyanzi’s heart leaped with joy but she decided to tease him a bit, ‘’I don’t know Mr. Jasiri. It was only yesterday you asked me to be your mchumba (fiancée) and now you want me to be your wife? Doesn’t this seem a bit hurried? I mean I don’t even know much about you,’’ she wanted to stop at the dejected look on his face but she decided to go on, ‘’ we haven’t even gone on one date, shouldn’t we do all this things before you ask me to be your wife?’’ Vuyanzi struggled to keep a straight face and avoid busting out into laughter at the confused look on Koni’s face.

‘’I am sorry Vuyanzi, i should have all of the things you said. I will arrange for us to go anywhere you want to go. I promise to do…’’ Koni rumbled on.

Vuyanzi couldn’t hold back anymore she bust into a laugh. Koni looked at her like a mad woman.

‘’What is so funny?’’

‘’Your…face,’’ she held her ribs as she laughed out unlike the past few days.

‘’O…okay,’’ Koni was still wasn’t sure but he couldn’t help but smirk at her, ‘’I am serious, we will do everything you want to.’’

‘’I love you Koni Jasiri and I would be happy to marry you,’’ she said with mirth on her eyes. Koni answered her by pulling her close to his warm body. He kissed her forehead sweetly and cradled her to his chest.

Vuyanzi felt her world rotating on the right axis again.

Everything was puur-fect.

……………………………………………………

‘’What in the world is that noise early in the morning?’’ Lishevi busted into Vuyanzi’s room as rubbing her eyes trying to wake up.

She had been dreaming about her time with Koni in the caves of Karura forest. She was just getting to the good part when her grandmother barged in.

‘’Vuyanzi wake up, we have to go and see what is happening,’’ Lishevi pulled the covers off Vuyanzi’s body leaving her granddaughter shivering in the early morning chill.

‘’Shosho, it is a lorry (truck) passing on the road. Let us go back to sleep,’’ Vuyanzi tried to sooth her grandmother and at the same time pulling the bed covers back to her body but shosho was not having it.

‘’Wake up you lazy girl,’’ Lishevi pulled Vuyanzi off the bed and practically dragged her to the front door. The sound of the lorry or Lorries was more pronounce when they opened the door to the sight of three of them packed in front of Lishevi’s front door on the lawn. What was even more astonishing was that the lorries were packed with cows. A lot of cows.

Vuyanzi could only watch with a dropped jaw as a heavy man, approached her and her shosho.

As he came closer Vuyanzi could see that it was Jaffar, Koni’s muscle man and her personal bodyguard. Koni had insisted that Jaffar stay close to her at all times. At first after the kidnapping, Koni was so mad at Jaffar hat he threatened to fire him for letting Vuyanzi get away but Vuyanzi refused to let that happen. She insisted she didn’t want any other guard apart from him, if Koni kept on insisting that she should be guarded at all times.

Though the threat surrounding her life had been eliminated, Koni was ever cautious to keep her out of danger. Kaunda and Kweyu had been apprehended. Kaunda was held at the Baraza La Wazee for questioning. Vuyanzi had managed to plead with Koni not to kill Kaunda and his brother who held a knife at her throat. Kweyu was being held at the police station for robbery with violence, kidnapping, buglary and several other charges that would ensure he was not set free for a long long time. Koni had assured Vuyanzi that. The amanani had dispersed like normal though Koni claimed he was working on a plan to help finish them all together.

’Habari ya asubuhi (good morning) Vuyanzi and shosho? Can you direct this men where to unload the herd of cattle?’’ Jaffar stated after greetings.

‘’What are all this cows for?’’ Shosho pointed at the Lorries which were packed side by side, and the several men who stood by them ready to unload the cargo.

‘’Um, your mahari (bride price) Vuyanzi,’’ Jaffar looked at Vuyanzi as if he didn’t understand why she was asking that question.

’Mahari?’’ Vuyanzi and her shosho shouted in unison, their eyes round as plates,

‘’It was supposed to be delivered today, don’t you remember?’’ Jaffar was clearly misinformed. Koni had not told her anything about delivering mahari today, in fact they were yet to discuss anything about bride price.

A meeting between her people and Koni’s people was scheduled to happen during the weekend. Which was two days away. Why did Koni decide to bring the

‘’I don’t remember Koni saying anything about bringing mahari yet, it has been discussed,’’ Lishevi voiced Vuyanzi’s concern. ‘’Did Mr. Jasiri tell you about it?’’ Lishevi turned the question to Vuyanzi and Vuyanzi shook her head. She honestly knew nothing about it.

‘’Um…’’ Jaffar mumbled scratching the back of his head and looking a bit lost.

‘’Where are my manners, come in. all of you. You are my guests and I will prepare some tea to help with the cold. We will sort out the dowry issue once Vuyanzi has managed to locate her uncle. Come in,’’ Lishevi turned back to her charmy self and welcomed the men into the house.

The men looked relieved as Jaffar walked over to them to deliver the news. Lishevi pulled Vuyanzi aside.

‘’ Three Lorries full of cows?! Vuyanzi what is wrong with your mchumba (fiancée)? Where does he suppose we will put all this cattle?’’ Vuyanzi could only shrug her shoulders. She didn’t know that Koni would go over the edge when he talked about coming home to ask for her hand in marriage. For crying out loud, the cattle was enough to feed her whole town and plus for a week.

It had been a week since she got home and everything had almost gone back to normal. Almost everything. Since Koni had expressed his wish to marry her the soonest. Her family (uncle and grandmother) had insisted that she stay at the town as per tradition. Koni was banned from seeing her till the wedding day. Her grandmother citing it was a taboo. Obviously Koni had gone up in arms about it and refused to let Vuyanzi go anywhere far from her. Vuyanzi had managed to convince Jaffar to be her shadow to ease his worry. Koni had reluctantly agreed.

Her shosho had been released from the hospital under strict instructions to not use wood to cook food and other several directives that Vuyanzi was keen to ensure her grandmother followed. The coughing had reduced and her skin color looked healthy again. She had been gaining weight too.

Aunt Neza stayed in town and currently she was asleep. Vuyanzi had been close to her since she got back and Neza kept telling her stories of her childhood together with Vuyanzi’s mother. She had a full photo album for Vuyanzi to explore. Vuyanzi learnt that her mother was a dare devil who had a stubborn attitude. Her antics landed Neza in so much trouble when they were young. Neza was also a source of a lot of information. She told Vuyanzi a lot about dancing brides. She congratulated her on her upcoming nuptials. Vuyanzi was planning on asking her to stand in the place of her mother during the upcoming nuptials.

Vuyanzi was yet to come in terms with the thought the idea that she would be getting married. It felt so right and she couldn’t wait to be Koni’s wife. She was worried that all of this was a dream and she would wake up in the morning to find everything gone. Koni, Neza and everything she had been experiencing. Caro could not stop blabbering about how happy she was that her best friend was getting married. Everybody seemed happy for her.

‘’I think I will call him to find out his plans shosho,’’ Vuyanzi decided to call Koni up. Even though they couldn’t meet. Nobody could stop them from talking to each other.

Mores so Vuyanzi missed him, even if the last time they talked was yesterday night.

After they left the caves, they had not been able to have an intimate time together again.

After helping her shosho to prepare some breakfast for the men, she sneaked back into the comfort of her bedroom to make a call to Koni. She made sure to talk in low tone to make sure aunt Neza didn’t listen on their conversation. Vuyanzi had recently discovered that her aunt could sleep through a stampede but she wasn’t taking chances.

‘’Vuyanzi, how are you? Is everything okay?’’ Koni picked on the first ring and hurled questions at her.

‘’Am fine Koni,’’ Vuyanzi smiled at her phone, she missed him and ignored his panicked voice. ‘’I am yet to be dragged away by the amanani again.’’ She joked trying to lighten up the mood but the joke seemed to go through Koni’s head.

‘’Did something else happen?’’ he sounded anxious now. Vuyanzi could see him pacing with his jaw ticking. Oh how she missed him.

‘’Yes something did happen,’’ Vuyanzi couldn’t help but tease him he was so gullible at times.

‘’Vuyanzi you better come clear and tell me what is going on,’’

‘’Koni today morning, my grandmother’s house was almost overrun by three Lorries full of cattle, can you explain that? You almost gave us a heart attack. Why send thee Lorries full of cows Koni?’’

‘’Am sorry Vuyanzi, I wanted to send more but judging by your grandmother’s compound. I didn’t want to overwhelm her. But not to worry. Five more trucks will be on the way this evening,’’

‘’Wait what?’’ he thought she was complaining about the bride price?

‘’I know, my father advised me to bring ten, but I thought…’’

‘’No Koni wait, don’t send more truck. I mean three is already too much. Don’t send more cows to my grandmother homestead,’’

‘’Why not? Don’t you like the dowry? I can exchange it with something else if you like. Gold jewelry, some diamonds…’’ Koni rumbled on.

‘’No stop Koni. Why don’t we wait for the elders to discuss this before you get carried away,’’ Vuyanzi knew she had to stop Koni before he did something crazy.

‘’Oh, okay. Sure. I thought this is want you wanted,’’ his normal strong voice was laced with worry and uncertainty. Vuyanzi smiled at that. He could be so adorable at times.

‘’It’s you I want Koni.’’

‘’And I want you too, I miss you so bad and I hate it that I can’t see you that is why am back at the reserve,’’ he stated and Vuyanzi felt her insides growing warm at the thought of seeing him. She missed him, his touch and kisses.

‘’When did you come back?’’ her voice was excited. She couldn’t wait to see him. Her skin was already flush just thinking about their encounter in the caves. She couldn’t help but yearn more for him.

‘’Yesterday night at midnight.

. I can’t wait to see you,’’ he drawled and her knees grew weak. She bit her lips thinking about their little escapade inside the cave. Since then she had not been able to see him and she physically ached with the need.

‘’No we can’t see each other, its wrong,’’ her voice lacked conviction. She really didn’t have a care about the ‘not seeing your groom till the day you will be married’ rule. I mean who came up with such a rule, she mused. Old people, she huffed.

‘’There is nothing wrong with loving each other Vuyanzi, you know better,’’ his voice was now low husky, he was clearly hinting on their encounter in the caves and Vuyanzi agreed with him, there was nothing wrong with loving each other. Loving Koni Jasiri.

‘’I will look for you my love, be ready,’’ with that promise, he ended the call. Leaving Vuyanzi breathless and ready for their next encounter.
