Uncle Liyai came in that morning together with the chief, who helped to organize some space large enough to hold the cattle in the form of Vuyanzi’s dowry.

‘’In all my years, I have never seen a man offer so much mahari (dowry). You are one lucky girl Vuyanzi,’’ Caro gushed as she watched the Lorries being driven away to a local animal farm in the town where they will be housed.

‘’It’s nothing,’’ Vuyanzi blushed. Everyone was telling her how lucky she was to acquire such a man in her life . She didn’t need them to tell her that, Vuyanzi knew she was lucky.

Koni had come into her life like a wind whirl and amid the chaos she had been able to find out who she was and what she wanted. Her monotonous life had changed for the better and she loved every minute of it. The commotion in the morning had brought out all the neighbors who peeked their heads on top of the fence to see what was going on.

Vuyanzi had come to learn and be the center of attention whenever she went. For some reason, her name trended. From being called an orphan to be the fiancée of Koni Jasiri was no joke. She was the modern Cinderella. Celebrity News tabloids rotated around her, she was the dancing witch who had caught the eyes of the prominent Jasiri, one racy magazine read

. Another story speculated that she was pregnant for Jasiri and he was marrying her because of that. All the stories were far-fetched and ridiculous. Vuyanzi wondered where they came up with such long tales.

Her life had been thrown into the lime light. She had received several calls for interviews and she turned each of them down. One interviewer was bold enough to try and come into her grandmother’s house to question her, but between her fierce grandmother and Jaffar’s muscles. The journalist was not successful at all. Koni was informed of the incident and the interview calls stopped. She later learned that he had sue the tabloid agency for trespass and defamation.

‘’So, Vuyanzi are you ready to go back to school?’’ Caro was so enthusiastic in the morning, Vuyanzi thought, she was not keen on going back. She missed her classes and classmates but she could hated all the attention she was bound to receive. If only she could avoid it, classes would be interesting again.

‘’Come on, it shall be fine, scrap that look on your face.’’ Caro chimed in her over the top voice, ‘’who wouldn’t want to ride in that new car of yours Vuyanzi,’’

Vuyanzi internally groaned and cursed Koni hundred and ten times.

Koni had an idea that she needed a car and without consulting her, he bought her a car. A brand new car that sat on the compound like a brand new toy. Vuyanzi had no idea how to drive a car but Koni didn’t disappoint, Jaffar was her allocated driver till she leant how to drive herself. She didn’t know any young person about her age who owned a car. Lishevi though that the car was a thief magnet but the presence of the bulky Jaffar 24/7 around the house deterred any sort of mischief. Vuyanzi had wanted to go back to her normal life but that seemed impossible.

‘’You can’t skip any more classes Vuyanzi, come on lets go and give those busy bodies something to talk about. If anyone talks bad we can just tell them, they aren’t invited to your wedding. And speaking of wedding am your best friend since you have not asked me for some reason, I am appointing myself as your best maid…’’ Caro rumbled on.

‘’We are having a traditional wedding Caro,’’

‘’Even better, it means I get to accompany you to your new home. Imagine that, I am so excited,’’ Vuyanzi had to pause at that. A new home with Koni. Her stomach flipped. Traditionally, if she got married to Koni, her friends were supposed to accompany her to her new marital home. The friends would stay for a week to help with the work and help the new bride to settle in before leaving.

‘’Where will you be staying Vuyanzi?’’ Caro asked drawing from her thoughts, ‘’ here or the city?’’

‘’I don’t know Caro I am yet to discuss the particulars with Koni,’’ Vuyanzi crunched her eye brows together. It was true, she was yet to discuss a lot with Koni about their life after the wedding. Where would they live? What about her studies? Would she be able to continue with them after the wedding? What about her grandmother? Will she stay alone?

‘’that’s fine. This things take time,’’ Caro tried to console her friend seeing the dejected look on Vuyanzi’s face. ‘’For now let’s focus on getting through this day okay?’’

Vuyanzi nodded her head, she would follow her friend’s advice.

…………………………………………………

‘’You know Koni, you should be focusing on your new upcoming nuptials and forget about the amanani for some time, the threat surrounding Vuyanzi had been eliminated. Gahiji had not reported any movement of the remaining outcasts, it seemed like they skipped town. Why don’t you relax and…’’ Manute tried to reason with Koni but it seemed like squeezing water out of a stone.

‘’You and I know that this is far from over Manute, I can’t have some crazy lunatic out there with his band of misfits going round and trying to kill me and my lineage at every turn. Vuyanzi is not safe until I stop this vendetta,’’ Koni grumbled as he paced in his library inside the reserve.

He had quickly set up a meeting with Gahiji the previous night when he flew into town. He had been in Nairobi trying to stop the quick persecution of the outcast. Some members of the council wanted Kaunda and his coconspirator to be eliminated but Koni and Roiman had urged the council to postpone the conviction until they get to the bottom of the feud.

He had planned to meet with the famed outcast eliminator but it seemed like Gahiji was taking time to appear. It was almost evening and he wanted to go and see Vuyanzi. H had planned a small surprise for her.

Koni had missed his bride, contrary to belief mating with your bride does not reduce your desires towards her, it only doubled the need and urge to see her and be near her. It was taking everything in him not to go to her but he had to ensure that she was safe in the town. He had to meet up with Gahiji to listen to the man tell her that there were no vindictive outcasts hiding around his town.

‘’What is taking him so long?”’ Koni consulted his wrist watch a deep frown on his head.

‘’Maybe we…’’ He was cut off when the door to the study opened to reveal and tall, huge and dark man, dressed in jungle camouflage with deep set brown eyes. The man’s eyebrows were thick and he had a foreboding look on his face. Koni decided then that he didn’t want this man to be chasing him down with the mission to kill. Koni could not believe he was in the presence of an eliminator. The man standing before him was in charge of killing his clansmen.

‘’Jasiri, Manute, pleasure to meet you,’’ the man stretched his large had and gave both men a firm handshake. ‘’ I am Gahiji,’’ he squeezed Koni’s hand a bit hard and Koni wondered what that was for. He had a strong Rwandese accent.

‘’In case you decide to hurt my niece, I will come after you,’’ his words were stern but an amused look diffused the building tension.

‘’Vuyanzi is safe with me, no harm will befall her,’’ Koni was aware that Gahiji was the spirit warrior to Neza. They had been bonded for over twenty years.

‘’Make sure you do that,’’ Gahiji nodded before setting himself on a huge chair in front of Koni’s huge ebony desk, Manute sat beside him. Koni noticed that Gahiji had a look around him, a look that suggested to one that they were in danger, Koni could feel his beast clawing to come out. He wanted to contest against the eliminator.

‘’That is the reason why our clans never got along Jasiri,’’ Gahiji chuckled as if sensing what Koni was going through.

‘’What do you mean?’’ this question came from Manute who was also struggling to keep his beast down. His eyes were shifting between brown and burning yellow.

‘’Our beasts are both predators with their own might. I belong to the humid jungles and you belong to the open grasslands. We rule both of our territories, do you think it would be a good idea for both of us to co-exist in the same space?’’ Gahiji paused the question and with his intelligent eyes looked at both of them. He seemed so calm. Koni didn’t move his gaze from him.

‘’We are not here to discuss that Gahiji,’’

‘’I know,’’ he leaned back on his chair, his poise outstanding,’’ you want to know if there are other eliminators in the area.’’ Koni nodded curtly

‘Normally my presence should tell you am after something but not this time. I am giving myself a holiday since you guys managed to hunt Kaunda down for me. He had been escaping my grasp for some time,’’

‘’What did Kaunda do for you to hunt him down?’’ Manute suddenly asked folding his hands on his chest and looking squarely on Gahiji’s face, ‘’what exactly is his crime?’’

Ever since they found out that outcast were being hunted down and killed, questions like this have been surrounding Koni’s head.

. He was glad that Manute asked. It did not make sense that innocent lives were lost due to an ancient mistake caused by a handful of warriors.

Gahiji stood up, ’I don’t have answers for you warriors, refer back to your council, they have better answers. For now I have to take my leave,’’ Koni and Manute both stood up and shook his outstretched hand, though reluctantly. ‘’Vuyanzi is safe, don’t worry about the amanani or outcast. The capture of Kaunda is a big blow and it will take some time for them to regroup,’’ he assured Koni

‘’Thank you for your assurance,’’ Koni didn’t know why but he trusted Gahiji’s judgment.

‘’Most welcome. Now focus on your wedding and make my niece happy or else Neza will have your throat and mine for effectiveness,’’ Gahiji visibly trembled as if the thought scared him. Koni wondered why. ‘’I take this liberty to invite myself to the wedding.’’ A corner of his mouth raised in half a smile and Koni found himself grinning back.

Gahiji seemed; like a complex man and Koni couldn’t decide if he was an enemy or friend. Only time could tell.

They watched him drive his double cabin four wheeled drive out of the compound. The sun was in the horizon and in an hour’s time it will have sunk low.

Koni consulted his watch and grinned, he still had time.

‘’Why are you smiling like that?’’ Manute raised his eyebrows at his friend.

‘’I am happy because I am going hunting,’’

‘’But we were out there this morning Koni, you are not making sense,’’

‘’Oh I am not going hunting for food, I am going to hunt my bride down,’’

‘’Oh…’’ Manute grinned too as they both watched as the sun sank low on the horizon.

It was time for the lion to hunt.

……………………………………………………

Hey guys, this is a filler chapter before we move on with the story.

I know most of you with *dirty* minds like mine wanted the *er*tic* scenes hahaha but we will have to live with the regulations set by ebony. I will try to make the upcomiing scenes intense without crossing the boundary.

Much love
