Vuyanzi locked the door behind her and rested her head on it. Taking a deep breath. The room was dark and as she hoped everyone seemed to be asleep. Tip toeing into her bedroom she took great care not to wake anyone up. Her shosho or Neza. Koni had just dropped her off from the reserve a few minutes ago.

‘’Watch your step Sentwali,’’ aunt Neza voice carried in the darkness and Vuyanzi nearly lost her step and toppled down. She was caught . She frowned at the name Sentwali. Though she had corrected her aunt countless times on calling her Sentwali, Neza was adamant and asked Vuyanzi to let her call the name her parents had given her. Vuyanzi reluctantly agreed but she still cringed whenever she was called Sentwali. It was not her name.

‘’Aunty…I,’’ Vuyanzi stammered

Neza laughed in a hypnotizing way and Vuyanzi relaxed a bit. The lights was switched on and Vuyanzi saw her aunt stretched out on the old couch inside her grandmother’s sitting room. Vuyanzi wondered how long how her aunt had been laying quiet in the dark. Waiting.

‘’It’s okay I understand Vuyanzi. I was once young like you and I had my own shares of escapades. Your shosho is asleep

. The medicine knocked her out.’’ Vuyanzi released a breath she was holding. She couldn’t face her grandmother’s wrath now.

‘’Is that a diamond ring am seeing,’’ Neza stepped forward and picked Vuyanzi’s jeweled fingers. ‘’It’s beautiful Sentwali,’’ Neza gushed at the diamond rock on her hand. Vuyanzi was happy someone shared the happiness with her. Then Neza’s turned her sharp on Vuyanzi, ‘’you didn’t have this in the morning, did you meet up with Koni?’’ she frowned.

‘’Nothing happened,’’ Vuyanzi was quick to defend Koni. She didn’t want him to be in trouble. And it was true, nothing happened. After proposing Koni dropped her home. He had only left her with a long, passionate kiss at the gate before he disappeared inside the darkness. Vuyanzi had been disappointed and Koni had only promised more later. Whatever that meant, she didn’t want tit later. She wanted him there and then. Vuyanzi was dismayed at her feeling. She had turned into a wanton hussy whenever she was with Koni.

‘’Uh huh, something did happen. Look at the ring on your finger and the way you are avoiding my eyes.’’

‘’We didn’t do anything.’’ Vuyanzi retorted angrier than embarrassed. Why did Koni decide this time not to do anything? She was clearly up for a game.

Neza chuckled, ‘’It seemed not everything went according to plan,’’

Vuyanzi blushed and looked away. On the desk was her school bag and Vuyanzi wondered how it got there. She remembered it falling on the dusty road to the collage when Koni whisked her to the bushes.

‘’Jaffar brought it. He only said you will be late and left it here. I added one plus one and figured you were out with Koni,’’

Suddenly the door rang and Neza walked to open it. A mountain of man stood there and Vuyanzi was surprised when the man enveloped Neza in a big hug. Her aunt seemed to disappear into his arms. Neza chuckled and hugged him back just as passionately. Vuyanzi looked away to give them a private moment. It felt like she was intruding.

‘’Not now,’’ Neza giggled like a school girl when the man grumbled something in a low tone at her. Vuyanzi decided she had seen and heard enough so she should just go but Neza stopped her.

‘’Vuyanzi come meet Gahiji, my husband…your uncle,’’ she added hesitantly.

The man who was dressed in forest reserve uniform gave her a warm smile. It softened the hard lines on his face.

‘’I have heard so much about you Sentw…Vuyanzi,’’ he caught himself, ‘’ sorry, your aunt keeps calling you Sentwali that it slipped my mind for a minute there. It’s finally nice to meet you face to face for once,’’ his Rwandese accent was thick but Vuyanzi could see that he spoke perfect Swahili. If he lost the accent no one would ever guess he was a foreigner.

‘’It’s nice to meet you too,’’ Vuyanzi shook his outstretched hand and he could visibly see that Gahiji released a sigh of release. Vuyanzi wondered why he seemed apprehensive around her. She looked at her aunt who was holding Gahiji’s hand and smiling up at him. Vuyanzi saw how Neza gazed at Gahiji with love in her eyes and she wondered if she and Koni would have such a connection at that age.

‘’I met Mr. Jasiri earlier and threatened him if anything was to happen to you,’’ Gahiji smirked remembering the vigilant way Koni looked at him.

‘’You did?’’ both Koni and Neza exclaimed and Neza playfully hit him on the arm. Gahiji only pulled her closer to him. Neza giggled even more. Vuyanzi found herself smiling at Neza’s giggles. She really had an infectious laughter.

‘’Yes and I can promise you are in safe hands. Koni ni muungwana (a gentleman).’’ Gahiji assured Vuyanzi.

‘’Um…thank you,’’ Vuyanzi smiled back at him.

‘’You can come to me for anything Vuyanzi. We are family. You will never be alone again.’’

The words were with Vuyanzi as she prepared for bed. She would never be alone. Neza had escorted Gahiji out promising to be back in the morning. Gahiji stayed at the reserve courtesy of Koni. The reserve management knew he was a consultant that they had hired to come and check out the disease affecting wild animals to go viral in the reserve. If only they knew his true services. Vuyanzi checked on her grandmother before carrying her heavy body to the bedroom.

Neza had told her that she would meet her whole family during the wedding celebrations since she didn’t want to overwhelm her with their attention. Vuyanzi wasn’t sure if she was ready to meet her maternal family. Neza had insisted that everything would be done slowly and she was not to worry. Her family was anxious to meet her but they would wait for her to be ready. Vuyanzi had agreed for them to come to her wedding. After all they were family.

Neza had shown her pictures and videos of all her family members. Her grandparents were the ones that stood out. They had aged well and looked like some kind of royalty. Where her grandfather was tall and regal like, her grandmother looked exactly like Neza and Keza. She was beauty even in the old age. She had a permanent smile on her face. Neza had informed her that her grandfather, Chief Zuri was the chief of the gorilla clan. He was also the leader of the Sokwe Society, the group which hunted down rogue spirit warriors. All this information overwhelmed Vuyanzi and it was the last thing on her mind as she drifted to sleep.

……………………………………………………………………………..

Vuyanzi was dreaming. Koni was beside her in bed looking down at her, his eyes gleaming in the dark. Her window was slightly open letting in a slice on moon light. She turned towards him and touched his cheek her new diamond ring shining in the dark. Koni turned her hand and kissed her palm sending thrills up her arm. He then lowered her head aiming to kiss her cheek but Vuyanzi turned and his lips connected with hers. Vuyanzi sighed a relief when their lips touched and pulled his head closer to hers.

Koni released a low growl and took control of the kiss.

Vuyanzi was now wide awake and she could see that she was not dreaming. Koni was in her bed and he was kissing her like a man starved. She on the other hand was responding to his ardent touch with the same fervor.

‘’Vuyanzi, you have to sleep,’’ Koni whispered in a husky voice. His words were saying one thing but his hands couldn’t stop roaming her body. Touching her in a way that made her pant for air. Vuyanzi remembered where they were and didn’t want her grandmother to wake up to her passionate moans.

‘’Why did you come Koni?’’ she managed to ask.

‘’I couldn’t keep away from you. And you called me,’’ Koni nuzzled her neck, nipping at the soft skin there. Vuyanzi was sure she could feel his canines rasping her neck. She arched her neck to give him more access and bit her lower lip to prevent a whimper from escaping. This was scandalous and she was thrilled at the idea of being caught. It made it more exhilarating.

‘’I called you?’’ Vuyanzi swallowed. How did she do that?

‘’You forget sweetheart, I can access your thoughts and I know what you are currently thinking. How could I go to sleep without giving you what you desired? What you want?’’ his hand travelled down the nightgown she was dressed in and he sneaked his hand underneath. Vuyanzi held her breath as his finger slowly climbed her naked thigh. His hands warm on her heated flesh, ‘’what you need,’’ his voice was now a breath whisper. Vuyanzi couldn’t help but rub herself against the bulge on his trousers.

‘’Koni…we can’t do this here…’’ a section of Vuyanzi’s head protested against it but the rest of her body claimed for release. She was as tight as strung arrow. Ready to shoot.

‘’Shhh baby…you have to be quiet,’’ Koni bit her earlobe and Vuyanzi let out loud moan but Koni was quick to wrap his free hand on her mouth to stop any sound from coming out. At the same time his searching fingers found her dump center and dipped in.

. Vuyanzi was glad for Koni’s hand on her mouth. She practically screamed and buckled off the bed.

Koni’s harsh breath on her ear awakened her senses to another level. She was hyper aware of him. His heated touch. His canines scrapping her neck as she rode the wave of desire threatening to sink her under. All this time Vuyanzi could feel his emotions which enhanced the feeling of loved and possessiveness to another level.

The tight arrow was released and Vuyanzi soared high into the sky before free falling down to earth where Koni was ready to catch her. Wrapping his hands tightly around her and pulling her to her body. Declaring his love over and over again for her. Vuyanzi slept with a feeling of fulfilment.
