Synder folded the remaining cloth and carefully put it on the rest of the neat cloths, and then she closed the wardrobe.

“Zichat, you are not even helping, what are you doing?” She asked, talking to her friend who was by the window, looking down to see what was happening in the garden and laughing. They were both in their early twenties.

The house was a three storey building and they were on the topmost floor.

“Come see your step sister, now this is the funniest part.” Zichat explained and Synder quickly rushed over to see what was happening.

Her step sister was having her coaching again for the third time that week.  Her tutor was a white woman dressed in suits and whose body looked as stiff as a board.

“Now, you bend slightly and raised that neck a bit . Raise that neck up!” The coach shouted at Katrina who was having difficulty in doing what was asked.

“She looks like an ostrich!” Zichat commented and they both laughed.

“An ostrich that wants to poo.”  Synder added and they both laughed but all of a sudden, someone blocked their view from below-it was the hard cold face of Pauline, Katrina’s step mother and she was looking straight at them.

“Oh my God! The witch has found us! Quick!” Synder whispered and they closed the window.

“I hate that woman.” Zichat admitted, with a frown.

“Well, we need to get out of her room fast before she meets us here.” Synder replied, climbing down the stool she was standing up and they both ran out of the room and down the stairs.

Finally they were in Synder’s room.

“Your step-mother is really working hard towards this banquet of a thing.” Zichat said, sitting on the bed.

“Yes, she is.” Synder replied, “she has hired different tutors for Katrina, one for dancing, one for etiquettes, dressing, fashion and so many.”

“But you know you are the one who is supposed to be going for the banquet.”

Synder scoffed, “who? Me? Please, I am not interested besides, I am just a maid in my father’s house, they don’t need anyone like that in the castle. They need people like Katrina who are all elegant and lady-like.”

Zi, “have you seen yourself in the mirror? Who says you can’t be elegant?”

“I am not interested.
“But you are your father’s daughter, his blood is the one that is supposed to be going to the banquet, not some girl his second wife brought from nowhere.”

“My father adopted her two children before he died so, I am really not interested, believe me

Zi shook her head but looked up excitedly, “yes, would you like to see the picture of the prince?”

“I am not interested.”

“Come on, it will be fun. What kind of a person are you anyway?” Zichat brought out her phone and began to type something, then she  looked isappointed.

“What is it? Is he ugly?”

“No, he is just, his picture is not even online.”

“Well, let me give you the picture of him that I have-someone who is spoilt, fashionable, really spoilt and arrogant. They are all usually like that.”

Zichat laughed, “that’s a lie, Robinhood wasn’t like that.”

“Robinhood is a movie and he wasn’t even a prince.”

“He was to me.”

Synder sighed, “you are hopeless.”

Hours later in the night.

. Synder was in Katrina’s room. While Katrina lay on the bed, she was busy soaking cloth into hot water to massage her neck and body.

Katrina was really a beautiful lady, soft skin that her mother would spend tones of money on, to keep softer, perfectly arched brow, nose, cute like a button, she was the ideal queen.

“I hope he picks me Synder else, all this would just be a waste of time.”

Synder smiled. “You are so beautiful, he will definitely pick you.”

Katrina smiled, that always worked on her but then she frowned as she remembered something.

“What is it?”

“My etiquette coach is coming tomorrow. I hate that woman, she makes me do repulsive things.”

Synder smiled, “well, she can’t be worse than your style and fashion tutor.”

Kat groaned, “all of them are horrible!”

Minutes later, the door opened and Fiona walked in, she was Katrina’s twin sister but they were not identical, she was not as graceful as Katrina was and she loathed Synder with passion. They were all in their early twenties so it was difficult to know who was the oldest.

She walked in a tight mini skirt, a top barely covering her tommy, there was a ring on her belly button an another ring on her nose. Her hair was in four different colors which she packed into two side ponytails. She frowned as she saw Synder.

“What are you still doing here? Aren’t you supposed to be done?” She demanded, addressing Synder who was still massaging Kat’s back.

“She will be done once I say she is done.” Kat replied.

“Well, I want to talk to my sister and I need her gone.” Fiona stated, arms akimbo as she glared at Synder.

“She is not done yet and my back hurts, whatever you need to say, you can tell me, I am just tired, I am not deaf.” Kat replied.

“So now that you are becoming the queen, you have started giving orders right?” Fiona asked, now glaring at her sister.

Kat hissed and shook her head. “What is wrong with you Fiona? I am tired, I do not have time for this.” She shouted at her.

Just then the mother came in.

“What is going on here and why are you two acting like children?”

“It’s Synder!.” Fiona stated and Kat gasped.

“It’s always her isn’t it?” The mother asked, “now what has she done this time?”

“I heard her and that stupid friend of hers talking earlier about she being the right person to go the banquet.” Fiona replied surprising everyone, even Synder.

“Really?” Pauline asked, her countenance changed immediately as she stared at her stepdaughter with a cold glare. She was a huge woman, tall and busty, even merely looking at her could give someone a heart attack.

“So you and that good for nothing Zichat have been talking...”

Synder was dumbfounded, she looked at Katrina who was looking at her as if feeling disappointed and then at the other two ladies who hated her guts.

“I will never...she was the one saying it and I never ...”

“Liar!” Fiona replied, pointing an accusing finger at her.”You agreed to what she said!”

“No I did not!” Synder cried back, her heart beating fast and faster and looking at Kat to make sure she believed her, she was the only nice person in the house.

“Well, even if you think you are going, you this stupid girl...” Pauline started, putting a arm to her waist, “you will only be going as the hand of my daughter, so you will watch everything as she captures the heart of queen, the prince and then becomes the rightful betrothed and you will only be nothing but an ugly, duckling maid that you will forever be!”

“Okay, it’s okay mum, let her go, you are terrifying that poor girl and now the hot water she’s been using for me has grown cold. This is all your faulty Fiona!”

“What? My fault! You are such an ungrateful bitch!” Fiona slammed back and both sisters started shouting at each other while their mother intervened, quickly, Synder picked the bowl and then left the room. As she slammed the door behind her, she took a deep breath, that was a nightmare.
