Set me free - Episode 48

 

Michelle:

"We did it." Rory says quietly beside my bed as he squeeze my hand. I stare into the television in the small hospital room even after the news on my father's demise was over. My father was finally gone and his drug empire was getting torn down by the higher ups.
"We did it." I say more to myself than to Rory. I finally take my eyes off the television and turn to Rory. 
"I'm sorry about Jessica . " His features stiffen at this but I brush his cheekbones mildly to try and comfort him. He leans into my touch and sighs. I don't want to hurt him more after all he's done for me but it's inevitable and I think he knows this. We've been avoiding talks of our engagement ever since. 
"They never found her body." I can see the raw pain on his face.
"Don't do that."
"Do what? "
"Blame yourself. She made those choices that led to her death." I say but Rory shakes his head. 
"I should have seen her feelings. I loved her, you know. She was the only family I had." Tears cloud in his eyes before he looks away from me to hide them. I release a long sigh.
"I'm sorry." That's all I can say

. I feel like her turning bad was my fault. It was me she wanted out anyways.
"No. Don't be. It's not your fault that I fell in love with you." His eyes come back to find mine. I hold his eyes for a second before I look away. 
"You love him." Rory says without question. My eyes come back to look at him. I nod slowly.
"I don't want to be Jessica and fight the wrong fight." He says quietly
"I'm sorry." I say again. He shakes his head. 
"I know." I stare into his sad eyes for a while longer. 
"It's your loss anyways." he smirks and I take his attempt to change the subject. 
"Of course great one." I tease. He brush off imaginary dust from his immaculate suit jacket and we both laugh. 
"I want to see him." I say after a few minutes of silence. I see Rory freeze. 
" He's probably beating himself up for killing my father right now. You said you'll take me to him soon. How about now huh?" I pout. 
"You can't leave the  hospital. Your wound is still healing and your body  still needs time to recover from all those poisons." Rory says, matter of fact and I frown. 
"Come on. It's been five days. I'm going crazy not being able to see him. I just need to make sure  he's okay. Please."
"No. "
"You're heartless." I turn my back to him and pretend to be pissed. I'm acting like a child, I know but I really want to see him. He said he loved me. I really want us to have that talk.
"I want to be alone now." I say after a few seconds. 
"Come on. Don't be like this." He says.
"Just let me see him!" I snap. 
"I can't." Rory rub his stubble harshly and I frown. He only does that when he's nervous. I sit upright on my bed.
"What are you up to?" I narrow my eyes at him. He shrugs. He's totally hiding something. 
"What aren't you telling me?"
"Nothing."
"Rory? "
"Nothing, okay. You should rest!" He snaps and I clamp my mouth shut. 
"That's it. I'm going to him without your help." I start to pull out the iv from my hand. 
"What are you doing you crazy woman! " Rory yells in my face. He looks astounded. 
"He's at our usual hideout right?" I ask instead. 
"I can't  say."
"Okay then." I finally get the IV out and start to match out of the room. Rory block my path. 
"Get out of my way." I push weakly on his chest. 
"You're going to hurt yourself." 
"Just tell me where he is!"
"I can't! "
"Why?! "
"Hmm just because! " he folds his arms unyielding. 
"You can't tell me where he is and you are blocking my path." I say slowly trying to find out what he's up to. It finally clicks. My heart skip several beats. I stagger  back. Rory holds my  arm to steady me. 
"He's leaving." I whisper yell. My eyes watch Rory's expression. My heart jump again. 
"Mara--"
"No. No. No. No. No."
"Calm down." I pull my arm from his hold. 
"He can't leave me. I need him." Tears water my eyes. 
"He said he has to."
"No. He can't. I can't let him. Take me to him." I grab Rory's hand desperately And try to drag him out the door with him. 
"Mara"
"Please. I can't let him leave " I cry out. He hesitates 
"I'm driving if you don't come with me then!" I push past him only for him to catch my arm before I'm out the door. 
"Don't try to stop me." 
"I'll take you." He says instead. 

William:

 The intercom announce that the flight going to Nigeria was ready for boarding but I can't seem to get off the seat I've been glued to for almost an hour now. For the thousandth time, I look towards the airport entrance like I'm expecting someone. Michelle. I had Rory promise he'll not tell her I'm leaving today but I still feel like running out of this airport to her. I finger the locket necklace with Aurora's initials and my heart sink. 
"Daddy is coming for you, baby." I picture the big smile my baby will welcome me with once I get home and I'm sure I'm making the right decision. If only my heart would agree with me. 
 An announcement on the intercom finally gets me on my feet. I pull my small bag unto my shoulder, making sure my fake passport was in hand. I'll forever be grateful to Rory for this. 
"It's time, Liam. Duty calls in your country.

And like every dream, you have to wake up. " I tell myself and my eyes water. Memories of the past few weeks flood my mind and emotion flood me with great intensity. 
"Sir are you boarding? " I look up to the airport security smiling politely at me and I nod. 
"I am." I am about to take the first step when a sudden commotion behind me makes me turn. 
"Get out of the way. I have to stop that plane! " securities try to hold the lady in hospital gab and just one leg of her shoes as she fights to get through. I recognize the voice even though her back is to me. 
"Michelle?!" She turns around and I see relief flood her face. 
"William." She gasp. The security lets go of her and she lunge herself at me.
"William." She says my name like it's a breath of air before she goes on tiptoes and kiss me. The whole airport seem to stand still then spin.
