MIGUEL

By the time I woke, she was no longer by my side. I smiled as I recalled what had happened between us. It was the sweetest moment of my life...making love to someone you are in love with and practically married to is probably the most perfect thing. Yes I had slept with thousands of women but none had felt this right...there was no word to express it . She was as sweet as I had dreamed of all these days and for the first time in a long time, I felt fully satisfied.

I was still naked to my waist and I was beginning to miss her.. I checked the clock on the wall, it was just some minutes by twelve. The side of the bed where she lay was no more warm, that could mean she had been gone some minutes ago,

She would soon be here.. I said to myself as I shut my eyes to continue my sleep and I opened them again, I needed to find her so I climbed down from the bed and grabbed a jacket.

Outside my door was one of my guards..

"Hey, did you see my wife?" I asked him.

"Yes  My Lord, she went towards the courtyard" He replied.

I frowned. Courtyard by this time..what could she possibly want at that time in the courtyard? Everywhere was already quiet and people were sleeping.. I decided to go find her.

KATHIA

"You don't mean that my love" He said again, now pacing restlessly, I could see he was hurting but I actually didn't care about that

. He had a sword some where in his robe. I could see the handle pointing out.

"Tony, I am sorry okay, but I cannot do this anymore. I am not the woman you fell in love with, I have changed"

He said nothing. It was just the two of us at a corner in the courtyard and there was just a little light. I had to go back before Miguel wakes.

"What do you need a sword for?" I asked and he brought it out. The blade shone in the faint light.

"You told me to bring you a sword the day we would be leaving, you said in case war arises and you would need to protect yourself"

"I said that?" I was surprised.

"I cannot let him win" He muttered .

"This is not a competition Tony" I put in.

"Didn't he tell you this is a competition...it has always been like this and for the first time, you are my only chance of getting back at him. You told me you didn't love him and that you love me" He was walking closer to me.

"I must have said that when it was the old me Tony..."

"Do you remember you gave me the ring he gave you that very night of the wedding, you asked me to give it to you and propose to you with it on the day we would finally leave...." He brought out a diamond ring which glittered even in the dark.

I gasped...Kathia!

"Look Tony, I understand all you are saying but that wasn't me..that was the old Kathia"

"Then maybe I need to bring the Old Kathia back" He said firmly , throwing the sword on the ground and grabbed me so suddenly. The next thing was he was kissing me...I attempted to push him away but he clasped both my hands behind my back..I bit him on the lip and I tasted blood then he drew back. He was looking behind me...and that look...I knew I was dead!

'Hello brother" Tony said proudly to the person behind me.

I couldn't turn or move or breathe...I couldn't do anything..I wished I could just die right there.

. My breathing came faster as I heard Miguel’s voice-

"Kathia!!"

Then I turned, he was just by the entrance of the yard and the look he had was unimaginable, like he had just been stabbed....I rushed to him.

"I swear, it is not what you are thinking Miguel, I wanted to end it,,,I came to end it...."

"To end what? You mean, you have been seeing him all this while?" he asked weakly

"That wasn't me, I swear" I cried, now on my knees.

"You left my bed, to meet your lover..oh my God! I have been fooled. I was stupid to have listened to you! I was stupid to fall for you! Oh my God!" He shook his head as he placed a hand on his chest while leaning on the wall.

"No..Miguel,I love you..that wasn't me...I told you everything...."

"What everything.. I thought you did ...but now I realized everything was a lie....why did I ever believe you."

"Brother! Get a grip! She has been my woman all along..even before you got married. " Tony said , now walking towards us.

"No, no, that wasn't me"I pleaded, holding Miguel's hand who was now looking at his brother with so much hatred I have never seen before..

"I hate you brother! You are the worst thing in this family. You are so pathetic and I feel sorry for you. You are dead to me Tony"

Tony laughed at Miguel's outburst and threw the ring at him.

"She gave me this ring on your wedding night...so you should feel sorry for yourself"

Miguel smiled painfully and caught the ring in his hand..then he looked at me. "You and your people would rot in hell and as for you.." He said to his brother. "You just declared a war brother...I would be happy to kill you myself"

Then he motioned to turn, without looking at me, he was walking away while I cried my heart out. My heart was breaking so fast and I couldn't stop it. This was a nightmare...this wasn't suppose to happen...

Just then, I opened my eyes only to see Tony rushing towards Miguel whose back was turned and who was still walking weakly out of the yard...in Tony's hand was Kathia's sword..he was ready to plunge it into him from behind.. Where I knelt, I happened to be the only thing between them.

Without thinking I jumped to my feet and embraced Miguel from the back as the sword pierced through me and I screamed!
