Finale
She stopped speaking and starred glumly at the darkness as she finished the story she told halfway. Charles felt really sorry for her after learning what she passed through, most especially the rape case that was unsolved. Why would she be treated like that? he thought. Dolapo was a snake like he always knew he was, he thought about his actions and realized it was justifiable. Dolapo didn’t deserve to live, he was a devil in suit that only merited his presence below the earth crust.
“Am sorry for all that happened”
“Love is indispensable, elusive yet blind, an axiom that had come to stay in our hearts
. Sometimes, we are misled into thinking it’s perfect but it isn’t. I know no love till I met you again Charles. You are the reason why I breathe fresh air”
“You are the reason why I didn’t kill myself with alcohol Ruth. Forever you will remain in my heart, right here at the bosom” he knelt before her and showed a red box to her face, opening it revealed a glittering ring. She was so surprised, not in her wildest dreams did she ever imagine that she would have genuine love again.
“I know everything that you have gone through and you know mine. There is hope in us rectifying our past together, rewriting history

She hesitated for a long time and finally, she said no to him. It was a dream to be with a man that shared a similar history with her but she wasn’t ready yet for a man or marriage in as much as she loved him to be there for her. Charles understood her reason and decided to wait till she was ready. She kissed him but one thing did bother her, her aunt. How was she going to react to her engagement and would she ever let her greatest asset go? She told Charles, he gave her every assurance that she would be let go.
Charles stood by his words, the next day he realized the only thing that could get Ruth released from her aunt was money, money that her aunt wouldn’t refuse. That’s what he did, he offered her money and she didn’t refuse it, just as he had predicted. Ruth was finally freed from the clutches of her aunt. The day for the marriage was scheduled, two weeks from the time.
Charles was awoken by the door bell that he didn’t know how many times it rung. Reaching for the door, simultaneously thinking of it might be, two police men were at the door with a man in black suit;
“Good morning. Is this the house of Charles Johnson?”
“Yes, you are speaking to him. how may I help you?”
“You are under arrest for the alleged murder of Dolapo Mike Akintola. You have the right to remain silence, anything you say can be used against you in the court of law” one of them handcuffed him and took him in. Charles had no point denying, he killed him, he won’t lie about that but he knew he won’t stay for long in cell, he just needed to make a call to two persons, his lawyer and his well connected father.
