Redemption - Episode 3

 

Benedicta:

The inside of the car is awesome. I am a girl but I have a thing for cars. Especially vintage cars. This is obviously a ford mustang.
"Cool ride" I say after minutes of silence. Ade who is usually a talker is feigning sleep in the back seat of the car. She's so going to get it from me.
"Oh, she speaks" the stranger says and smile at me. That smile is just devastatingly gorgeous . It makes his kind eyes wrinkle a bit but he's gorgeous. The only thing missing is a dimple and he would be otherworldly.
"The name's Luis" he tells me and I whisper his name and it sounds smooth.
"I am Benedicta. That's my friend adesuwa feigning sleep in the backseat. " I say out loud so Ade can hear me. She doesn't answer me though. She still keeps her eyes shut.
"So, are you still in secondary school?" He asks while sizing me up. I admit I do look younger than my seventeen years. I would be eighteen in a week's time but it doesn't show in my smallish stature.
"No. I am done with secondary school. I just gained admission into the university" I add just so he would see me as a big girl. I don't know why I want to impress this guy. I don't talk to guys

. Hell, I am a shy introvert but this guy makes me want to be like Ade. Fun and interesting.
"Wow. That's cool. What course?" He asks and my face falls. 
"Wait. I know that face. You didn't get the course of choice. Or, you did but it was your parent's choice." He says.
"Yeap" I say and he chuckles.
"It was my dad's choice"
"What would you like to study otherwise?"
"Music. I have been writing songs since I was eight" I say and study his features to see if he's like the rest of the world who thinks music isn't a suitable career choice.
"That look you have in your eyes, my brother always have that look when he talks about music. Listen Benedicta, you don't need to study music to have a career in it. I'll tell you what, let's meet up tomorrow and I will introduce you to my brother. He's a producer. He could help you get your songs out" he says with excitement in his voice and I wonder why he would want to help me.
"Um sir__"
"Luis". He corrects. He looks older than me so I feel weird calling him by his name.
"Luis, I don't think that's a good idea. My dad doesn't want me to go into__"
"Come on Benedicta. You just have to record a few of your songs. You could play them for your dad. It could change his mind. Show him how good you are and he might just let you try". His right hand leave the steering wheel and he squeeze my hand which is on my thigh. I startle from the touch but his kind smile makes me relax in my seat.
"I"ll think about it" I tell him and he nods.
"That's good enough. Take my number so you can call me when you are ready." I pull my small phone out of my pocket anf dial in his number as he calls it out to me one handed as he hasn't let go of my hand yet. Would I really call him?

  I see the signboard of dad's church and I know we are close.
"Thanks Luis. You can drop us off here." I tell him. He lets go of my hand and I mourn the loss of contact. Luis slows the car to a stop and gets off quickly just to open my door. He smiles down at me and I feel heat rise up my cheeks. He takes my hand again and help me out of my chair.
"It was nice meeting you Benedicta." He says before brushing his lips against my cheek. I bite down the moan that threatens to leave my mouth. My knees are wobbly and I learn against the car to steady myself. I know he can see the effect he's having on me. Lord, help me to resist this feelings. The both of our eyes are locked and I see his eyes momentarily flick to my lips before coming back to my eyes. My lips feels dry all of a sudden and I lick it. I see fire blaze in his eyes and I gasp. He's going to kiss me.
"Oh we are here!" Ade thankfully interrupt the moment and I can finally breath.
"We should be going Benedicta. Your dad should be worried. Thank you Luis" she says, selling her self out that she has been awake all these minutes. The traitor. Luis gives us a little salute then gesture for me to call him before getting into his sweet ride and driving away. My eyes follow the car until the dust swallow it.
"Bennie is in love.." Ade sing behind me and I throw her a filthy look.
"I can't believe you did that to me." I tell her and her smile falls.
"Hey, I am sorry for losing our t-fare but come on, you did meet your prince charming" she says and I roll my eyes.
"I know you like him. He knows that." She tells me and I bite my bottom lip.
"I knew it! You were just giving him 'kiss me' eyes all through the ride." She squeal
"I so wasn't!" I deny. Was I?
"He's a little too old for me, don't you think?" I ask and Ade smile
"Wow. Bennie is thinking of dating a guy. Look, from the rumours, I know he's in his early twenty's. Perfect for you."
"I don't want to date him" I try to convince myself.
"So, would you call him? He did say he would help you produce your songs" I give a noncommittal sound and I am about to say something when I hear my elder brother's voice from behind us.
"Here you are! Dad has been worried sick and you are here? Dad couldn't leave because of his precious daughter. Come on, let's go" he pulls on my hand and drags me towards the church. I don't even get to say goodbye to Ade.
"Favour, slow down" I beg but he just keeps walking fast while still holding my arm. He's so stuck up. He's just twenty two but he behaves like he's older than life itself, always bossing me around. Can't wait for the strike to be over so he can finally go back to school in Port Harcourt.
  We get to the church and I see dad and my immediate elder brother, Philip is standing beside him. Philip sees me first and he walks to meet us.
"Let go of her arm na. Can't you are you are hurting her" he tells Favour who eyes him.
"Let go of her" my dad commands and Favour reluctantly does. I rub life back to my arm.
"My God. Benedicta I was so worried. where did you go to?" Dad asks with concern written on his face.
"I saw her with that trouble maker friend of hers" Favour put in before I can talk.
"Don't speak of someone in that manner, Favour. Come on baby, let's go home." Dad pulls me to him as we walk to his car. I can hear Favour murmuring about pampered brats and I can't help but smile at his misery. Ever since mom died in a car accident along side my only sister, dad treats me with extreme care.
"You made the hulk angry again" Philip whispers in my ears and chuckles. Yeap. He's the coolest brother ever.

Lucas:
I plop my tired butt on the couch and rest my aching head. Anita is a real drama queen. I had managed to get her to her house without getting into an accident from her persistent hands which kept touching while I drive but she had to make me carry her upstairs to her room then she tried seducing me. Thankfully, her mother came in to take care of her and I took that chance to slip out of there before her father came with talks of son in laws and whatnot. Thank God I dodged that bullet.

  A broad smile lifts my lips as I remember the voice of the girl at the bar. I wish I had the chance to talk to her. That voice is meant for a star. I remember how looking at her had done strange things to my heart and head. I can't help but curse Anita in my mind for her interruption. Now, that beautiful star probably thinks I have a girlfriend. I will make sure I meet her again and correct that. Maybe I could go back to the bar tomorrow. If I ask around, I should be able to locate her.
  The door flies open and I turn my attention to Luis who just entered grinning like he just won the lottery.
"Nice time at the bar?" I ask with an identical grin. We do look alike except for the lack of tatoo and piercings on Luis's part. I have an ear and lip piercing which makes people hide their daughters when they see me.

. I might look like one of those yahoo boys on the street. Maybe just a little bit.
"Yes. I met this girl and she's breathtaking." He seems so excited and I chuckle. Someone is in love..." I say and he grins.
"Maybe just fascination for now" he says.
"How bout you, you look happy for someone who took the drama queen home" he teases and I realize the smile my star girl brought to my face is still there.
"I just feel energized." I say. Luis studies my features.
"I did get referred to Jake and might be on my way to fame" I say nonchalantly.
"What?! Damn bro! You did it!" He gives me a man hug And I can't help but laugh. He is even more excited than me. We have always been a team.
"He did it!" Luis yells out loud and I try to shut him up. Too late, cause my dad just walked in looking angry as usual.
"Will the both of you just shut up so I can sleep?" He spits at me.
"Dad, Lucas just got signed by a big music star" Luis announce and my dad turns bored eyes to him.
"Is that why you should bring down my roof? You better keep it down or get out of my house" He fires at Luis. I have to grab Luis's hands to stop him for speaking back.
"Come on, I have something to tell you" Luis says then pull me out of the sitting room towards our bedrooms.
  My dad can't even be happy for me. What a life.
