Majority believes that dreams are just dreams. Still, some say dreams are insight of a reality that is yet to unfold.

For days now, I’d been experiencing these strange dreams, whilst the one I’d experienced that very afternoon happened to be by far the strangest of all.

Beads of sweat was evident on my forehead, trickling slowly across my entire face. And my mind on the other hand, was still baffled, unable to decipher the scenery of the past few seconds.

It made no sense, yet, it made a lot of sense . It was everything in the space between, all stemming from the existence, or nonexistence of the big dogs.

Lethal, dangerous, perilous. Those were the frightening descriptions Mama Yahimba's book had portrayed. Yet, my dreams claimed the direct opposite. They looked scary no doubt, but not in a way that posed any threat. I thought it would be safe to even call them friendly.

Nonetheless, the dream of that particular afternoon had been a little different. And it was mostly because it hadn’t been just me and the big dogs, there’d been an included presence of someone else; someone who looked exactly like me.

The crown on her head was the first thing I’d noticed: A gold one, with colourful gems ornamented across.

. Plus, the big dogs had seemed elated by her presence, moaning softly as she gently brushed their furs.

Then suddenly, her gaze had landed upon mine

. We made a long-lasting eye contact, and that was when it struck, a sense of familiarity I couldn’t quite fathom. I felt a bond, a weird connection. I felt like I was related to her, yet, I couldn’t pinpoint how exactly.

“My child,” She’d whispered wholeheartedly..

It was at that same point that I rouse from sleep.

“Why did she say that?” I thought out loud, gawking through the window to see Mama engrossed in a discussion with our neighbor. Almost subconsciously, I found myself taking in her features, carefully comparing it with mine.

Mama was an attractive woman: tall, and fair in complexion. Already in her forties, she could easily pass off as a woman in her late twenties. Whilst I, on the other hand, was short, and dark, with a green pair of eyes that differed from Mama’s brown ones.

I didn’t look like Mama, I’d told her before, whilst she’d simply waved it off with a small smile, claiming I looked like my late father instead. He’d died even before my birth, I never got the chance to meet him. And so, I’d believed her.. until now.

Poking my head out of the window, I noticed our neighbor say her goodbye, and once I was sure she was out of sight, I’d instantly ducked outside the hut, settling next to Mama on the same spot that was previously occupied.

“Lulu, are you okay?” The concern was evident in Mama’s tone.

But I didn’t respond.

Instead, I asked. “Mama, are you my biological mother?”
