My Encounter With Kate - Episode 27

 

I stumbled across Ada, her countenance was sad like someone who had just finished crying, she told me she was posted to the state capital, she was sad about it,  she explained that her mum promised to relocate her to Lagos, she was disappointed, I was happy about her plight, I reasoned that it was nature way of rewarding her for her insensitivity towards my love for her, I gave her a departing hug and promised to keep in touch before catching up with Kate.

Some were rejoicing, some were curious others were sad, I search for the bus that was to convey Kate, I spotted it, I was surprised when I spotted Maureen seated inside the bus, she confirmed that  it was where Kate was posted to that she also was, it was a coincidence. I took permission from Kate and promised to be back soon, Kunle had called.

From their facial expression, they seemed joyous, Biodun relocation was successful, he was posted to Abuja, Kunle was posted to the state polytechnic while Omolara was posted to Okene . It was really an emotional moment, I bade them farewell and hugged them one after the other, I accompanied Biodun to where he boarded a bus.

When I went to the field, the bus conveying Kate was almost  occupied, it was already past three, the passengers were being addressed, the driver was warming up the vehicle, I spoke some few words to Maureen, Kate even didn't look at me, she was so depressed, I gave Maureen some piece of advise, I bade farewell to Kate, all she did was to just wave and turn away. 

I hid my feeling, it was nostalgic, I was uncertain if it was the last time we would meet, I walked away leaving everything into God's hands.

I tried again yet my page wasn't loading, I knew the relocation was successful but the state of choice was the problem. Someone in the same situation as I told me not to bother that I was successful, I didn't listen, I was worried, I wanted a proof, vehicles were leaving the environment, I forwarded my details to the person that influenced my posting  and he promised to get back to me. 

I was in a bad mood after I had gone to the field to check if the bus conveying Kate was still there, Kate was gone, I didn't realize when I began to cry, it was so painful, I knew it might be impossible to see her again

. It was so emotional, I wept uncontrollably. 

I went to the protestant church to pick my bags, I was amongst the few that were still there, the surroundings were becoming empty, I accepted fate, although I did my best to give Kate all my heart but l had to face reality, perhaps we weren't destined for each other, I wiped the dust from my bag, I heard my name from a distance, I was Cynthia calling, She was seated in the bus conveying her, Uddy was also seated with Ayo the friend that I collected the book that I read most time when I evaded the parade, the three of them were posted to Lokoja, 

Uddy was posted to the ministry of finance, Ayo was posted to the barracks while Cynthia was posted to a school. I congratulated them, we talked for a while Uddy noticed my sad look and enquired the reason, I lied that sand entered into my eyes, when they were about to zoom off, I bade my farewell.

The officers in charge blew whistles,  It was a signal that everyone should evacuated the surroundings, I  bought a bottle of soft drink, I had not eaten anything except from the sip of fanta Kate offered, I felt nourished after sipping down, I received a beep and my relocation was  confirmed, I thank God for a successful camping, I looked around for the last time, almost everyone was gone, reflecting for the last time to capture the image of the camp in my mind.

 It was really an experience, I was just too sad  how it ended; my love for Kate was truncated because of distance a desire. 

I called my aunt she gave the direction to the house, it was few kilometres from camp, I boarded a bike straight to the house, my aunt was worried about my sad look, I lied again that it was because of stress, she asked her first daughter to take me to the visitors room and join them for lunch, the too was quite spacious with a large bed and a small TV set, I dropped my traveling bag and lay to the large bed hoping to gain some strength before showering and joining the family for launch.
