Mothers' cry (1994 - 1998) - Episode 15
Edward was crying, world was craving in on him, his world has come to an end. He was coming from Funmi’s Parent house where his fear was confirmed. He has knocked at the gate for hours before a lady in the neighbourhood told him that the occupants of the house have relocated to the United Kingdom.
He was absent minded as he was driving back to office, he remembered that Funmi showed him a medical report that she has been confirmed pregnant, his joy has no bound but her sudden disappearance has made his joy sour.
He drove back to his office sobbing, he was writing before he went out to check on her. Tayo called him on his intercom, he dropped the receiver and was staring at the empty wall as if reading something on it . His receiver rang again, he failed to pick because he knew Tayo is waiting for him.
Tayo who was released from detention by the new Head of State, Abdulsalam Abubakar who took after Abacha’s mysterious death. It was a day of joy that all Nigerians took to their various street to celebrate an end of one of the most brutal dictators in Africa. From Lagos to Abuja, Kaduna to Asaba, Nigerians from all walks of life were happy.

Tayo was about taking his bath in Maiduguri cell when an officer told him that he has been released, he was asked to take his bath that chartered flight is waiting for him at the Airport

. He has been told few days ago that Abacha is dead. He arrived Lagos into the warm reception of his wife and friends. He hugged Ireti, tears having its free flow from their eyes.
Edward entered Tayo’s office with his misty eyes, Tayo was scared. He thought something bad has happened, Edward sat opposite him. He narrated all behind his relationship with Funmi.
Tayo was about talking when Francis knocked at his door, he opened the door, wanted to go back but Tayo asked him to enter.
“Our wives are our mothers, although they have excesses, they annoyed us by their actions sometimes. We also reacted in many ways to their actions that hurt them, we insult them, treat them like leprosy, even some beat them but they are still our mothers. We made them cry, they cried to make us a better husband. We inflict pains in their hearts and body, they bear the pain because they hope we will change one day, as a man we must dry up their tears by changing our ways and how we talk to them”. Tayo paused to wipe away tears from his face, both Edward and Francis were surprised because they have never seen him crying before.
“Every husband must treat his wife with respect, allows her excesses and forgive her all her shortcomings to prevent her from crying”. He looked at both men in the eyes.
“I vowed never to make my wife cry again when I was in detention”.
He asked Francis to let him see the story in his hand.
“Ed, I told Francis to write it when I was told you went out, I want us to write an editorial about politicians running around to form different political parties in this new dispensation”.
He wrote something on a sheet of paper and read it out “OLD GENERALS READY FOR FRESH BATTLES”.
