Mothers' cry (1994 - 1998) - Episode 2
Francis has dressed for Office, he went to the dining to take his breakfast but there was no food on the table, he was almost late for office. He went to his bedroom, he met Salome applying make-up on her face preparing for Office.
He was very livid but tried to conceal his anger, he moved closer to her. “My breakfast is not ready”, Salome ignored him.
“Where is my breakfast?’ he thundered.
Salome stood to leave for Office, he dragged her back.
Francis was very angry, he was pacing up and down the room . Salome sat on a sofa, though both were silent but starring at the wall clock. She has been complaining about his refusal in assisting her for house chores, she vowed not to prepare food for him again until he changed. Francis believed as an African man, it is a sheer irresponsibility for a man to do house chores, it is the sole duty of the Wife.
“Have told you times without number that I am an African Man, you should be alive to your responsibilities in this house” he stirred an argument.
“With your years of living in the State, you don’t know I need your support” Salome replied.
“Your feminism inclination is alien to Africa culture” Francis fired back.
They both met when they were undergraduate in Oxford University, they shared different upbringing.

. Salome’s Parent relocated to USA many decades ago, Salome came back to Nigeria because of marriage and she works with National bank as an Executive Director

. Francis knew about her stand for absolute respect for women, she believed in gender equality. She hates anyone with believe that Women are second fiddle in the Society.
She almost fought with a man that told her to keep quiet when men are talking because she is a Woman. Some members on the board of the bank see her as rude and arrogant but any woman she has had personal contact with since she returned to Nigeria with her husband few years ago sees her as hero.
Francis thought luring her away from the State where feminism is respected will make her weak in her agitation for gender equality but Nigeria has made her stronger. He was appalled one day at Oshodi where they have gone to buy cloth as she stopped the Car, ran outside to mediate in a brawl between a bus Conductor and a Woman carrying a baby on her back. The Woman boarded the bus but she didn’t hear when the conductor said he has no change, it was when she was about to get down from the bus she discovered she had no change. The Conductor dragged her down from the bus, insulting her, the Woman replied him. A heavy slap landed on her face, she saw stars. Salome moved closer to the conductor, slapped him from back. Everybody was shocked, it was like a flash.
He remembered he had an appointment with Babagana Kingibe, running mate to Moshood Abiola, MKO, Presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP of June 12th, 1993 annulled presidential election. He planned to come back later in the night to give her a piece of his heart, he picked his midget and left the room.
