I was stunned to realize she was still there and even still wondering what would become of her. The question was dumb and the expression of everyone combined with the silence showed we all thought so.

No one had remembered the ex-girlfriend in the face of a pregnant girl from a powerful family and Irene looked like she would explode, she had just lost and from what I knew she was not used to that. I also knew she got destructive when angry and I did not want her expressing her anger in my house.

“This your question is confusing my dear,” Mrs Chibueze said, sounding confused and making me want to laugh.

“If he marries Nnenna, what about me?” Irene repeated for clarification.

“Ahan, I don’t know na, don’t you have a boyfriend? Marry him” Mrs Chibueze suggested.

Is like this woman does not know Irene is the ex-girlfriend o.

“Well, that is exactly what I intend to do but Afam is my boyfriend, so now what?” she asked.

“Ex-boyfriend!” Tobe retorted.

“Irene, we are over and you know this, do not try to make this a big deal . I am going to marry Nnenna and there is nothing you, or anyone, can do about that, just leave us in peace”, Afam pleaded.

“Irene, your plans are not our business, this family does not give a fuck about you, we never have and we never will. I don’t even know why Afam dated your stupid ass for that long but I am glad it is over now and let me tell you, even if he was not going to marry Nnenna, even if there was no pregnant girl in the picture, you can be rest assured that my brother will not end up with you!” Ada said, throwing the room into silence.

No one spoke, it was as if no one was breathing sef, the girls were having a stare down and the moment of silence was thankfully broken by Afam.

“Mmesoma, I am so sorry for dragging you and your loved ones into this, I am just as happy as you are that we would not be married but I hope we can actually be friends”, he said to me and I smiled.

Well, this was sweet and all but I wanted everybody that was not my father, mother, siblings, best friend (and her mother) to please leave.

“Well, let us all go home, I am sure the Eze’s would like to be alone”, one of the Duru’s sons said and I could not help but smile at him.

. Smart boy.

The Duru’s and the Chibueze’s left first and I was delighted to hear their cars leave, but Irene and the goddamned Arsenal were still here, oh lord!

“Irene, why are you still here? The drama is over, you should be going now na”, Dara pointed out. Irene looked up as though she was just realizing what happened, then with a sigh she turned around and began walking away but when she got to the door she paused and said

“So they think their happily ever after is about to start? Well, someone needs to tell them to lock their princess back in her tower because no one steals my man and marries him”

And she walked off.

Oh boy! I want to see what she would do next, but that is not my problem since I do not see how she is going to stand up to the Duru’s, her clout no just reach that level.

“You are such a stubborn child, you eventually won didn’t you?” my grandma said and we turned to her. She was glaring at me.

“Yes, I did. I worked hard and prayed even harder that it won’t happen. Your reign of terror has ended, stop trying to create unions for people, especially when they have made it clear that they don’t want”, I retorted.

She was seething and my aunts were furious.

“Mama…” my mother began but she was cut off.

“I would rather leave this house than have to put up with such disrespect”, she said.

“Mummy should I call your driver”, aunty Kainene asked, she nodded.

“We also need to pack, we are unwelcome in this house”, she added.

As they were walking upstairs, my father spoke.

“Mumu, I love you very much but I love my family too and you need to learn that you cannot always go about issuing instructions on how you want things to be done, the fact that Kainene and Somto are quick to obey you does not mean my daughters will do the same. I would love for you all to stay, but since we all know you would only cause more trouble for us, then it is best you leave. I would pay a visit soon”, he said and sat down.

Boy!

She stopped walking, turned to face us, hissed loudly and they continued walking upstairs. The next thing we heard were loud voices and moving boxes.

Oh well, what is our own?

“I am glad all this drama is over, they would definitely go back today and our lives can return back to normal”, Ezinne said with such glee.

“Tinu thank you for calling Sopuru o, imagine how all this would have ended if the Duru’s had not become involved”, my mom said smiling gratefully at Dara’s mom.

“Well, we are all glad this is over. Tomorrow, Dara and Meso are going for a full body check up!” my father instructed.

“Ahan why?” I asked.

“Just to eliminate all chances of you girls have strange diseases. I am going upstairs”, he said and excused us.

Dara, Ezinne, Dozie and I exchanged smiles. Our story had a happy ending after all.

Now, where are all the single ladies in the house?
