Phillip:

I just about freeze up when I turn around.
"Adesuwa." I gasp. Rage is written all over her as she comes at me. This is not going to be pretty. Why did I come here anyways? Cheryl's hand slips from mine and I'm reminded of why I am here. For some insane reason, I thought bringing Cheryl to the place Ade and I came on our only date in Port Harcourt was a good idea.
"You asshole!" Ade thunders when she finally reaches me and I feel strangely bereft without Cheryl's smaller hand in mine. I don't say a single word but bow my head in shame as Ade vent her anger on me.
"You killed her, you animal! Responsibility! That was all my friend wanted from you! You bastard!" She pound on my chest with her fist.
"Phillip__" I vaguely hear Cheryl's small voice behind me before I feel her tugging my shirt.
"Oh, you're here with another woman." Ade says with distaste . I start to shake my head for her not to misunderstand this but her hand comes against my face in a hard slap. I don't make any sound of pain because yes, I deserve so much more than this. I see her hand go up again and I prepare myself for the impact, letting my eyes blink close.
"That's enough!" My eyes flies open to see Cheryl between us and holding Ade's hand in the air.
"That's enough." Cheryl says silently this time. Lightning lines the sky and loud thunderbolt shake the clouds.
"He's going to hurt you sweetie

. Run when you have the chance." Ade sneers at Cheryl before wrenching her hand from her hold. I can't say anything but watch Cheryl breathe raggedly.
"Let's not meet again. Murderer." Ade spits but I can't look up at her face. The disgust will be too much to bear. I hear her footsteps storming off just as the rain comes pelting down.
"Phillip, we need to leave. Come on." Cheryl sounds distant from the sound of the rain as it gets heavier.
"Phillip__" her hand slips into mine to pull me out of the rain. I don't deserve the pity she's feeling for me right now. I don't deserve the comfort of her warm hand. I retrieve my hand from hers without looking at her and run. Not towards her van but away from it. Into the cold rain. I don't know how long I run down hill but I only stop when I reach a stream of sort. I plop to a rock by the shore and let the rain beat me down.
"I'm so sorry, Juliet." I say quietly. My mind scoffs at me for only apologizing to Juliet like it'll mean anything to her when she's dead. She's not the only one I hurt with my selfishness. I hurt my brother and Ade. I didn't love her but we were supposed to be dating back then before I let myself ruin Juliet's life.
I'm a mess and so is anything or anyone I touch. One day in Nigeria and my past is happy to welcome me back into misery. I should just ditch all this and find work somewhere on the other side of the continent.

Cheryl:
Is he going to jump into the river? I watch him even from a distance even as the rain make it hard to see him. He keeps staring straight into the water which scares me. The man I know is carefree but the one I saw earlier with that woman accusing him of murder, he's a tortured mess. I know that look, it's the look I've been spotting for way too long now.
My heart lurches into my stomach when Phillip starts to get off the rock he's been sitting on for so long. I move a step closer but he doesn't seem to notice me. He waves a little and my heart flies out of my chest. He's going to fall in. Can he even swim? Or he wants to end his life! I know I've thought about doing just that far too many times. But that's never the solution. I take several steps closer. He doesn't turn around. He stares down into the water and when a cold wind blows by, he staggers and I scream.
"Phillip!" I run faster than I think I've ever run in my life to get to him in time but his wet clothes slips out of my grasp and he falls into the water with a huge splash.
"No!!! Phillip?!" I can't see any sign of him in the water and my heart beats erratically. I feel like an heart attack is underway.
"Oh damn this!" I throw my shoes off and jump into the water. I sink like an anchor to the bottom of the water and panic sets in. Memories of Damon dunking my head in water just to punish me for not washing his clothes right comes to my mind and I start to beat at the water frantically.
"Help!" I try to scream but it only comes out like a gabbled mess. Philip. Please. Help.

Phillip:

The sound of something or someone diving into the river kicks my head back to the right place. I push my head out of the surprisingly deep water and look out. There's no one. I wipe the water from my face and relax backwards, letting my body float on the clear water. I feel strangely light without having to steer myself but letting the water carry me. Just looking at the water earlier made me calmer and now that I'm floating on it, I feel a bit better. I'm glad I took my head's wish to take a swim to calm down. Something under me slam up into me and I fall into the water again. For a moment I fear an attack from a wild aquatic animal but when I open my eyes under water, I see Cheryl, sinking to the bottom without moving a limb. What is she doing? Can't believe she followed me into the water.
I swim towards her and nudge her arm slightly. When she doesn't open her eyes,  I know something is so wrong here. I try to scream out her name but only swallow down contaminated water. I grab her shoulders and shake her vigorously. No response and my heart beats frantically. No. Cheryl! I swim around her and grab her around her stomach to haul her up with me to the top of the water.
She's so light, it's not much work to drag her out of the water and unto the rocky shores.
"Hey Cheryl! Open your eyes." I slap her face lightly. She doesn't move. Please God No. Not another woman dead on my account! I place my head on her chest but my beating heart makes it hard to hear anything.
"Cheryl! God, Cheryl! Don't scare me like this. Please!" I shake her harder then pull her unto my laps. The rain doesn't even let up as it beats down on both of us. I feel her hands and fear at how cold they are. This same hands were too warm a while ago. Tears of fear and panic sting the back of my eyes. What do I do?! CPR! Jeez yeah!
"Okay calm down, Phil. You know how to do this." I just hope I don't crush her ribs. I carefully put her on her back. Ok here we go. I interlock my fingers then carefully give chest compression.

. Breathing into her after every fifteen or so compressions. I start to panic when she doesn't move and the tears come down without shame. God please! I don't deserve this but please! Please!
"Breathe baby, breathe." I breathe into her over and over again as I beg her to open her eyes. I've never in my life been this happy to be headbutted. Cheryl's head flies up and slam into mine when I start another chest compression and I fall on my ass only to quickly sit up. Her eyes are closed.
"Cheryl? Can you hear me?" I ask with my heart in my mouth.
"It hurts." She whimpers. Thank God she's alive. I pull her into my arms carefully and stand up.
"Don't worry. I'll get you to the hospital as fast as I can." I assure her.
"No. No hospitals." She says. I start to argue but look down Into her tired eyes.
"Let's get you home."
