Phillip:

"You're right on time. Here, grab a plate." Cheryl points to the drawer of flat plates as I peek my head into the kitchen. I take the cup she's handing me and following her direction to get a flat plate.
"Go put those on the dining table. I'll get every thing out." She says without looking at me as she stirs something on the pot. I don't complain and do as instructed . I gently place the plate before my chair before studying the content of the cup in my hand. It smells good and it's hot. I blow air into the cup and take a skeptical sip.
"Ohhhh." I groan as the chocolate goodie slides down my throat.
"Noticed you fancy sweet things so I made you warm chocolate." I turn my head to Cheryl coming into the room, carrying too many things. I drop the cup of chocolate and stand to help her set the things down.
"You should not overwork yourself, Cheryl. You gave me quite a scare last night." I say and go back to her. I place my palm flat on her forehead to feel her temperature.
"Relatively warm." I muse and my eyes goes down to her face. She's biting on her lips, nervously looking up at my hand on her skin. I suddenly feel heat on my palm and I fling it off her head.
"We should eat." I don't dare a glance at her with the way my cheeks are flaming hot like I'm a teenager and I just got my first touch of female skin

. It's just a forehead. Get a grip! I scold myself as I take my cup and take a huge gulp. I remember how good it tastes and my eyes go close in pure bliss.
"Good thing I didn't make you coffee then?" I pull my eyes open at Cheryl's question. She's smiling at me and I completely forget what I'm suppose to be answering to.
"Right?" She raises her brows at me and I blink to clear my head.
"What?"
"Never mind. Here. I added bread in the toast and a little jam." She places a few pieces of toast in my plate.
"Thanks. Jam and egg is good." I pick a toast and nibble on the edges as I take the chance of her scooping soup into her plate to watch her. She's not as pale as she was last night but she's still wearing my sweatshirt and I can't get the feel of her against me last night out of my head now that I think about it.
"What?" She looks up at me from under her lashes without notice and I fail to act casual. She totally caught me staring at her.
"I just want to know if you're enjoying the soup I made you." I improvise and feel quite proud of myself.
"Yeah. It's marvelous. Thanks, Phillip." She looks shy, looking up from below her long lashes and that strangely makes me think that's she's cute. Yikes. I've never thought of a woman like that before. Except Juliet. My face shuts down at that thought and I turn away from her.
"You okay?" I hear her ask me but I just shrug because I don't know what else to say to that question. The table goes quiet after this and I just chug down my breakfast just to get away from this scene as fast as I can.
"Thanks for breakfast. It really was marvelous." I use her word from earlier and get a smile from her as I stand up.
"Have fun at work." She calls after my back as I start to hurry out and I grimace. I doubt that I'll be able to do that.

Boisterous laughter greets me as I pull the surprisingly beautiful door of the place I'm supposed to report at for work from now on. My mouth nearly hit the floor at the scene in front of me. There's a man a bit younger than me, telling a story in a really loud tone while he bounces on the squeaky executive chair at the end of the large room while a group of four people surround him, laughing at his antics. They don't even notice me in the room. I'm tempted to go back outside to make sure I'm in the right office. The only woman in their midst turns around and that's when she catches me standing at the door. The laughter dies on her lips as she taps the man beside her.
"I think the new boss is here." I hear her whisper to the rest. All five people turn around as they try to put themselves into a certain amount of order. I sigh tiredly as I consider walking right out of that door and telling my boss in Nairobi Kenya to shove his opportunity down his ass.
"Sir, we weren't told to expect you today. Frankly the call I got from Kenya told us not to expect you at all." The woman comes up to meet me at the door and I frown. They really think I'll run away from this challenge. They surely don't know me then. I'll do anything to get out of this country and if getting this dump off the ground is my ticket, I'll get it up and running.
"I need all of you in my office in five minutes." I bring hard eyes to the woman then I turn to the idiot who's still on the chair.
"And you, you're fired." Confused chattering rise in the room but I ignore it all. I face the woman in front of me.
"Get my secretary to get me all the client files on your way in."
"But sir?"
"What?!" I bark at her.
"You just fired your secretary." She points to the man who's now off the chair but staring at me madly and I growl. Way to go.
"Well someone who hasn't been fired should bring me those files or you all can just follow him out of this place!" I walk around the woman and into the small door I find to be my office.
I slump into the chair and loosen my tie.
This is going to be a tough run.

****

"Open for Christ sake." I groan as I try to push my keys into the keyhole of the door but for some reason even the door is out to frustrate me. I really didn't need this right now. It's past nine pm at night and my head is just about falling off my shoulders from stress. After three people quit at the office, I'd only a man and a woman working for me at the end of the day. They seemed reliable and with a bit of hardwork we might just be able to find a client or two. Who am I kidding, we are doomed. I'm doomed to live in this cursed country for life.
The door finally comes open and I nearly face plant into the ground. I cuss at no one in particular as I fumble with the wall till I find the switch and turn on the light.
The orange and green interior bring a small smile on my face as I push my way into the house. The scent of something wafts into my nose and I nearly run into the couch in my bid to get to that delicacy as fast as I can. I find a food flask on the dining and I quickly make quick work of the lid.
"Oh God." I groan satisfactorily as I pop one of the fried plantain into my mouth and chew slowly. I don't even bother to find a plate. I rush into the kitchen and grab the biggest spoon I can find. I hurry  back to the dining and pull a chair out. Planting my butt on it, I dip my spoon into the deep flask and fill my mouth with the rice and stew.

. I nearly weep at how good it tastes to my starved stomach.
"Oh Cheryl, you're amazing." I whisper into the dark dinning as I pat my stomach slowly, my legs thrown out in front of me. I pull off my tie as I release a loud belch. I don't remember the last time I had a good home cooked meal. If this is how I'm going to be living, I wouldn't mind staying for a little while in this house with my not so archenemy.
I look down at the mess I've made on the table and just not to annoy Cheryl and jinx this food love she's showing, I drag my overfed body to the kitchen to find a broom. I make quick work of getting the place clean for her.
I even wash the few plates on the kitchen table and I notice that the only place that seems to look in order is the kitchen. Something tells me this is her passion and I'm ecstatic about it if it means I'm going to be fed every day till I leave.
I dry the washed dishes with a dry rag and start to arrange them back when I notice a stick it note on the kitchen wall. I peel it off the wall and what can only be Cheryl's handwriting greets my eyes.

THOUGHT YOU MIGHT BE HUNGRY WHEN YOU GET BACK SINCE YOU DIDN'T COME HOME BEFORE EIGHT WHEN I HAD TO LEAVE THE HOUSE. HAVE A DATE SO DON'T WORRY MUCH ABOUT ME.__ C.

"Of course she has a date." I mumble to myself and try to shake the weird feeling creeping up my chest. I just hope this boyfriend doesn't stop her from cooking me meals. I push the paper into my pocket as I make my way out of the kitchen and into my room. Tomorrow is going to be another long day.
