Phillip:

I barely make it into the house before the clouds give way and rain comes pouring down. I'm actually relieved that I don't have to endure getting soaked by the rain today.
"Cheryl, I'm home." I call out as soon as I enter the house. I know.  I sound like a married man coming back from work to his wife. The only thing missing are the 2.5 kids to complete the equation . Actually I don't think I've been this happy. I know I don't deserve it as well. This was supposed to be about making Cheryl happy because she deserves it but now, I don't know what I'll do without her. I make my way through the sitting room when she doesn't come greeting me at the door as she usually does and find it empty. Her room then? Maybe she's taking a bath or something.
I take my jacket and tie off and drop it on the couch before heading to treasure land to find my stomach food. I really love this part of my day. Coming back from the office to Cheryl and a hot plate of something delicious.
"Cheryl you in here?" I walk into the quiet kitchen and turn on the light. She's not in here as well. The aroma of something edible changes my course of thought for a moment. I always miss lunch at the office so I can have enough space for this.
I pull open the microwave and find a hot plate of spaghetti

. I make my way to the sink and that's when I notice the note on the wall and drop the plate of food with a smile. For weeks now, we will leave each other sweet notes to find around the house.

GOT AN ORDER FROM THE EATERY AT THE NEWLY RENOVATED PART OF GRA. I SHOULD BE HOME BEFORE SIX.

I check my wristwatch for the time. It is already a few minutes to six. I peep through the kitchen window and find both her car and van parked in front of the house which means she plans to take the bus. The bus doesn't come into our street but stops at the bus stop at the beginning of the street. The rain is still pouring down hard. It's a long way under this pouring rain.
I place the paper in my pocket before hurrying out to find an umbrella. I can't have her sick again.

Cheryl:

"Gosh, the rain isn't letting up one bit." I groan under my breath as the bus comes to a stop at the beginning of my street.
"Who dey come down make he come down now o." The bus conductor announces as he pulls the door open. There's nothing I can do. I have to brave the rain. It should take ten minutes to get to the house. Nine if I walk fast. I roll my eyes at my thinking.
"You no dey come down?" The conductor eyes me as I stand by the open door without coming out.
"I'm sorry." I mutter as I take a step out of the bus. I put my hands up to protect my expensive Brazilian weavon as the bus zooms off leaving me in the pouring rain. Dang it! I make a run for it to the closed store at the side of the road where other people are waiting. As I get closer, I see a familiar set of shoulders slumped over as his legs stamp on the floor.  He looks up like he can feel his gaze on me and flies out to get to me.
"You're getting wet." I don't even notice the umbrella he has up until I feel the rain stop pounding on me because I'm so lost in his eyes.
"You came to get me?" I ask. He gets busy brushing water from my shoulders and hair.
"You're not so drenched right? I should have waited by the road. Just didn't know if you..." I wrap my arms around his waist and he stops fawning over me. I rest my head against his firm chest and sigh softly.
"The last time someone waited for me with an umbrella was more than twenty years ago. My mother." I say as I hug him tighter.
"What did I do so right to get you?" I push my head back to look up at him. He is smiling down at me.
"You breathing is all you had to do." He says and grins.
"Cheesy right?" He asks on a chuckle and I shake my head.
"Nope. It's romantic. Swoon worthy. Perfect." I give him a thumbs up and his chuckle vibrates my body. I like listening to him laugh.
"Come on, let's go home. We are making a scene." Phillip says as he takes my smaller hand in his and tuck me into his side so we don't get wet by the rain. Actually, I notice the umbrella is tilted towards me and the rain is hitting his right shoulder. I put my hand around his waist and pull him closer to my side.

"You didn't have to come get me, y'know? Now we are both stuck. It's too heavy to walk the rest of the way home. Almost lost my umbrella back there." I drop my cold jacket on the table and drop my ass on the wooden chair inside the almost deserted restaurant, which we are taking shelter in while the rain doesn't let up. Phillip rests the umbrella against the leg of his chair before he sits.
"We should take this as an unexpected date. And yes, I had to get you. Didn't want you getting cold." His fingers trace the top of my arm and goosebumps spreads up my arm.
"A little cold won't kill me." I try to sound nonchalant but his touch is blowing away my wits.
"I think not. Look at all those Goosebumps. Should I kiss them away? Could warm you up." His eyes are liquid fire as they pin me to my chair. I gulp down the fist size saliva.
"Don't say things like that when you know you can't fulfil it out here." I take my eyes away from him and grab the paper menu in front of me to take my mind off the things he's doing to me out here in the open. I stiffen when his body gets close and his hot breath tickle my ear.
"Who says I can't fulfil it. Anywhere. Anytime. I want to be able to touch you." His tongue brush across the shell of my ear. A shiver runs through me but I lean into him while he assaults my senses.
"Phillip..." I groan.
"What would you like to order ma'am. Sir?" I jump slightly in my chair at the sudden interruption. I blush bright red at the young guy standing in front of us with a knowing smile. I bring my eyes down and fiddle with the menu.
"She'll have salad and a lap of chicken. As for me, a plate of fried rice and chicken. We'll like your best wine as well." Phillip orders for both of us and I finally bring my eyes up when the waiter leaves.
"Didn't take you for the shy type." Phillip chuckles deeply and I elbow his arm with a smile.
"Forgive me but I'm not a tart like you who's comfortable with public display of affection." I say and he shakes his head at me.
"Who says public display of affection is being a tart?" I bite down on my lips to stop from saying Damon. It's not a good time to bring him up. It's never a good time so I change the subject.
"So Benedicta called. To confirm our attendance for Larry's birthday party." I nod my thanks to the waiter as he brings our food and arrange them in front of us without a word.
"Of course we are attending. My nephew needs his cool uncle." Phillip opens the wine with a pop and pours me a glassful. He pours some into his glass and raises it up.
"A toast? Are we celebrating something? Now that I think about it, you seem quite excited today." I muse and he grins cheekily.
"Well, I think I'm going to get another big client. Already persuaded him. We just need to sign the contract once he gets back to the country. Everything is just running so smoothly." He says.
"I'm really happy for you. You seemed to be struggling for the first few weeks. Let's toast to your success and our happiness." I clink my glass against his lightly before taking a sip of the white wine. It's delicious.
"They know their wine quite well." I muse as I look out the glass windows at the pouring rain.
"Do you ever think about if we will be right in this place if we weren't thrown to live in the same house? I mean I used to hate your guts and actually thought you were a spoilt rich kid." Phillip breaks the silence and I bring my face back to him.
"A spoilt rich kid. That's original." I say drily. People always think that of me. Like because I'm rich, I shouldn't like spending money.
"Come on. Think about it. If we met in a bar or a party. Am I the kind of guy who will make you look twice?" He asks. I don't even think about it because the answer is simple.
"Yes." I say simply. The first time I saw him, I was so aware of him. He's a good looking man. It just goes south when he opens his mouth. I laugh under my breath at our first encounter. I'd wanted to get his attention so bad even when Benedicta tried to dissuade me. And when I did get his attention, his eyes were just glued to my cleavage. I remember him saying something completely inappropriate. Yeah, my fist impression of him was great until he turned out to be a jerk. Right now, he's the best thing that ever happened to me.

. I'm happy. Sated. I don't feel like anything is missing. For the first time since my mom died, I think I found my own person. I love you, Phillip. I let my hand creep unto his and caress his knuckles lightly.
"I'm so happy you lost your job in Kenya and had to live with me." I say with a smile.
"Can't believe I'm saying this but so am I." He takes my hand in his and pulls me closer.
"You're so beautiful. That was my first impression of you." He says as he dips his head to plunder my mouth in a ravaging kiss. All I can do is hold on to his shoulders and take everything he has to give me. Right now, with the sound of the rain in the background and light chattering around the restaurant, all I can really hear is both our heartbeats, beating as one. I love you, Phillip. When am I going to be able to say those words to him without fear of falling too hard?
