Some months later, Femi and his colleagues graduated and I felt nostalgic about it. There was little communication between us way back except the few times we discussed at call centres. 11 months later, I left school as well to further my education in the higher institution of learning. Femi had to work in a factory so he could save and further his education. A month after, he was transferred to Katsina for a short stint . Above all, our love was stronger each passing day and I am not ready to give up on it not until one day when my mum summoned me to her room. I Had just gained admission and would be travelling in a matter of days.
Blessing, don’t think of bringing anybody from Ondo/Ekiti for marriage. That was her last words that evening and it hit me like Volcano. The only man I have known and loved was Femi and he is from Ondo. What do I do?
I cried my eyes out all day.
Ore mi (My Friend), you need to stop this thoughts of yours. Break up with him now and move on. Tolu, my room mate advised me.
It took me a week to summon up the courage.
Some days after…
Phone rings..
Ife mi,(My love) how are you doing. Femi said happily on the phone
Am ok. I replied sharply
I just got back from Katsina and I was…
And Blessing cut him off.
Femi, its over between us

. I cant continue with this relationship. Then I dropped the call. The pains I was passing through was unbearable. Femi called for so many days but I didn’t pick them. He sent series of text messages pleading bit I stood my ground.
Tolu introduced a guy to me and I felt having someone inmy life will take away the pains of Femi. A year later, Opeyemi and I got married. After we got married, I realized he lied to me about his religion all this while. He lied to me that he was a Christian not until I got to his family house and I knew the real him.
I was pregnant and their was not going back. Ope had betrayed the little trust and love for him. I couldn’t even find the little love which made me marry him in the first place. I contemplated on a divorce for so many months but my mother objected to the idea and she told me to keep hold of my marriage that everything will be fine.
Its 5 years into my supposed marriage. During one of those days, I decided to visit my mother. I bumped on Femi, my firstlove on the way to the filling station in my area. He actually came to visit his parents too. We exchanged contacts again and we agreed on a date the next day.
The memories crept in again.

. I had sleepless night all through. We met at one of the eatery in my vicinity. My Femi is now a big man. A man I had dreamt he would be. He is now a renowned writer and a sport presenter in Ibadan. How I’ve love him! His love never and didn’t die in my heart. My mother never told me the reasons for not marrying from Ondo/Ekiti up till date. My husband, Ope as travelled out to Italy in search for greener pastures leaving me with a kid. This was how my mother denied me the love of my life. Denying me everlasting happiness. Femi, I love you and will forever will.
Afterthought:Should love be personalised or made vulnerable to our parent’s criticism and infallible decisions? Well, it is already noteworthy that relationships are more for self-decisive minds than puppets. If tribalism and religiosity were a determining factor of love,it would be wrong to say that true love is unconditional and cliquishly ‘blind’.
