Forever, Mitchell - Episode 3

I enter the house by 3  in the morning, I'm dog tired, Jesus, when is this suffering going to end?

Ugh, I shouldn't even ask that question, it's never going to end.

I walk to my room to see Gina lying down, she looks peaceful so I just stroke her hair.

My pretty baby.

Gina has a heart disease, she needs a heart device, she's the only reason I work so hard.

She was the first person to reach out to me when I really needed it, I'm not going to let her die.

She's the reason I'm still in this house.

I strip to my pants and bra as I grab my night shirt, I have to be up by 5 again.

My sweet life.

As soon as my head hits the pillow I hear the door bang open, Jesus, please, not today.

"Get up you wench, where's the money?"

OK, obviously Jesus is taking a break.

"I don't have any money aunt sunny"

"You think I will believe that? You've been out clubbing haven't you? You are keeping all the money my sister left to yourself aren't you?"

Is this woman serious right now? Wasn't she there when the debt collectors came to get everything I owned after my mother died?

And is she seriously going to do this here? Gina's in the room, she needs her rest.

" Aunt sunny, I don't have any money and I'm not keeping any to my self, even if I am I'm not going to give you any, I have to pay up Gina's bill so she can get her heart device."

On a totally unrelated topic, who named her such an ironical name? She's not sunny at all.

I rest my head on the pillow, sometimes it's good to ignore her, she might go away.

Something warm and wet hits my face and my eyes fly open, my hands going to my face.

She spat on me. Why?

My eyes go to hers.

"You are truly evil, you broke up your parents and you killed your mother, you can't kill me! You can't!"

It's then I realize she Is drunk

. I've been talking to a drunk woman..

I feel the pressure on my eyes but the tears don't come, I've never cried, I'm not going to start now.

She stumbles out of the room and the familiar guilt starts.

Doubts starts to rise up, maybe, maybe if I hadn't shown my mum the photo of my dad on social media, maybe just maybe they wouldn't have divorced.

"You are not seriously going to cry are you?" Gina's voice asks quietly and I raise my head, wiping the spittle from my face.

"Of course not, did we disturb you?"

"Nah, I've been awake since you entered the room"

"I'm sorry I disturbed you"

"It's fine, I'm having a good day so I can stay awake for a while."

She says and I nod, getting on the bed with her. 

"Make sure you wake me by 5,I have to get to my new job" 

"You got the job?" 

"Yuh baby!" 

"Aww, wow" She says and I know she wants to stay up talking but I close my eyes. 

She needs to rest. 

I do too.

I stand in front of the stove with the other girls, I suppress my yawn. 

Gosh, how do I survive on such little amount of sleep? 

"You don't want Madam K to see you slouching on your first day" 

A voice says rudely besides me and I turn to it. 

No comments. 

"Wow, see those dark circles, they look like disc's" Another voice says and it's obvious it's referring to me. 

And truly, I have horrible dark circles. 

"Well, hello to the both of you too" 

I say, sarcasm strong in my voice. 

"I'm Katie" Says the one who made the comment about my dark circles. 

"Really? I don't care" I reply. 

"Wow, no need to be rude to me, I'm the good one, she's the evil one, you should chose which of us to be rude to" 

She says and I roll my eyes. 

She sounds like a deranged barbie, by the looks of it this is the part where they try to bully me and put me in my place. 

Ain't gonna work barbies, I'm the bully. 

"That's enough Katie, no need to talk to her, it's obvious she lacks class" 

Mummy! It's too early for this, I'm working on 2 hours sleep, I don't want to fight on my first day. 

"It's quite obvious Pearl" Katie says to the other bitch. 

I turn, screw this. 

"Are we talking about class here? Really? We are glorified maids, don't you think your attitude is a little hypocritical?" 

Pearl looks at Katie with a look that I can't discern before turning to me. 

"I went to Stanford , I graduated with honors, it's an honor I'm working here" 

She went to Stanford and she's working as an house helper? 

"Come to think of it, how did you get a job here? Who did you have to sleep with?"

Katie asks and I don't know what made me do it. 

OK. 

Wait. 

I know. 

I'm working on 2 hours sleep, an empty stomach and residue anger from my aunt. 

So, that's why I gently reached up and pulled her hair. 

" Ow.. You bitch! Pearl, do something!"

" You are on your own Katie" 

Pearl is a wise girl. 

"Listen up you Beyoncé wannabe, I eat girls like you for breakfast, I don't have time for pranks or smart-ass comments, leave me the hell alone or you will suffer" 

I say gently before releasing her hair, she takes 3 steps back. 

Where is Madam K? 

And how the hell did I score a job at a place which only admit elites?
