Forever, Mitchell - Episode 2

I got the job.
That's a surprise.
I hardly get surprises any more these days.
Yeah that can happen when your father decides that he's out of love with your mother and in love with his younger lab assistant.
I digress.
So this is how the interview went.
I get butsted for swiping some cakes, cue my nervous laugh.
Madam K turns out to be the housekeeper, she's thorough and stern.
"Why do you want to work for us?" She ask, she legit asked that question, I will be washing dishes, not serving tea to the queen of France.
Wait, does France have a queen? Well you see I was kind of a dullard in school so I don't really know.
I almost roll my eyes but I don't, I've had a million part time jobs in my life and I know how it works..
They all want you to work yourself to the bone.
I open my mouth but madam K is obviously not waiting around for me to respond.
She glances at my resume and I wait.
"It shows that you've worked at a restaurant and bar, you've waitressd, dog walked and you've done a stint as a receptionist."
See, I told you I've had a million jobs.
I nod my head to her questions and she looks me in the eye.
I learnt this a long time ago when I was rich, you always make an impression when you don't break eye contact, it makes you seem more intimidating.
Madam K nods.
"We are short staffed at the moment, employees don't last much in this house, you will be working double shift and as a kitchen help too, is that fine by you?"
I think about this, working double shifts mean I have to clock out at night, mostly in the midnight but it means an higher pay and some break from my home life so... Obviously yes!
I don't tell her this, I just nod.
"Good, you can start tomorrow, this is the contract"
She says, sliding a piece of paper towards me.
"You have to be here in the morning by 5, you have to work till 12, then you clock out and return In the evening, your working hours might change, so keep all your hours open"
She announces as I go through the contract.
"You will have to serve the owners of the house, wash the dishes, assist some of the staff in cleaning, we offer board and food but you have to be a full worker for that"
She says again.
Damn, I wish, I wish I don't have to go back home, I could...

. Well... I couldn't.
"Mitchell, we have rules in this house, you have to keep whatever you see and hear quiet, it's in the contract, you will get sued if you slander our employer, you will get sued if you deface the reputation of this family"
Wait, who am I working for again.? I'm getting scared.
I turn the paper and my eyes almost melt in my head when I see the pay.
Jesus, I could pay Gina's hospital bills and get myself an apartment if I work here for 6 months.
OK, I'm really scared, what do we have to hide that we get paid this outrageous amount of money?
"You might get bonuses if you work hard enough, my employers are very generous people"
OK, I'm selling my soul to the devil.
What part time job offers bonuses??!
"You just have to make sure of one thing" She says and I hear the severity in her voice.
"Do. Not. Fall. For. The. Boys" she says and by the tune of her voice I'm guessing this is a problem she's had.
She doesn't have to worry, I have no plans of liking anybody anytime soon.
I nod.
She stands and I do too.
"I hope working with you won't be a mistake and a regret" she says.
I hope so too.
