Forever, Mitchell - Episode 6

 

The stars are beautiful in the sky.. They might not be on land.

Through out my shift I'm expecting to get a call from madam K saying I'm fired.

I'm on pins and needles, why? Why do I have pride? Why can't I control my mouth?

It's going to get me killed one day.

Shhesh, how was I to know that he was my boss? He even gave me clothes, I thought he was just another John.

Kenny is going to laugh like a loon when he finds out.

"Well look who it is" A droll voice says and I sigh.

I don't have time for this, please, please God, Open up the earth and swallow these imbeciles.

"What do you want Katie?" I ask. 

"How did you manage to find your clothes?" 

I smirk at her. 

"They aren't mine, I found them in yours and pearls room" 

"You are wearing my uniform?" Pearl shrieks. 

"Surprise surprise" I say. 

"You...."

She freezes, these girls, nothing but bullies. 

"Tell me something, that guy, the one who looks like he's a run way model, the tall one with the blue black hair, is he really our boss?" 

"You saw Master Tyler?" Pearl asks with shock

"Master?" 

"Yes, Master, he deserves the title" Katie says in defense. 

"Calm down bird" I say and she eyes me. 

"Who is he?" 

"He's only the second son of Knox Maddison" She says, sarcastically. 

"So did you see him? Don't even think about seducing him, he's mine" Katie says and I almost cry for someone to please rid her of her delusions. 

"I have no plans of s*ducing him, im just asking" 

I say, don't even understand why I feel a need to explain myself. 

She looks at me dubiously. 

"What ever, just be careful so you don't fall for him and also stay clear of...." 

She doesn't get to finish before Madam K enters, she beckons at me and I guess this is where it all ends. 

Oh well, it was too good to be true anyway. 

"Grab an apron, you are serving today" She says before marching out. 

Oh, so she wasn't here to fire me. 

I wrap an apron around my waist before following her. 

She hands me trays of side dishes, telling me where to drop them and how to properly arrange the table.

When we finish arranging the table she asks us to stand by the table incase one of the Knox's needed something. 

She tells us to be silent too, 'Servers are to be seen and not heard' And all that. 

I stand, imagining how boring this is going to be. 

"Mitchell" Madam K calls. 

"Yes, madam?" 

"Be as quiet as possible" 

sheesh woman. 

"Yes madam K" She nods before ringing a small bell. 

We wait and that's when I see that I've been living in darkness, so to speak. 

Down the stairs comes a girl wearing a white gown, tapping away at her phone, she looks to be at least fifteen so the tapping is warranted. 

Who is she? Is she one of the Knox's? 

"That's Valli, First and only daughter of Mr. Knox" 

The girl beside me, Claire another server says with a whisper and I smile gratefully at her. 

A younger boy with the face of an anime character comes down the stairs, he must be close to my age, at least 19, he's aloof and I swear to God it works for him. 

"That's Bryant, 3rd son of Mr. Knox" She says and I shake my head. 

"Where do they get their looks? Is God being biased?" I ask and Claire giggles besides me. 

An older man comes down the stairs and on his arm is a girl that looks around my age. 

"That's Mr. Knox and his flavor of the month Candy" 

"Flavor of the month?" I ask in a whisper. 

"Ever since Mr Knox's wife passed he's been somewhat of a player" 

She reports and I nod, I look at Mr Knox, trying to read him and I see that he's a man who is used to being obeyed, he's severe, so different from his son, Tyler. 

Speak of the devil. 

Tyler comes down the stairs, his eyes taking in the scene, something flashing in them when he sees Candy. 

He takes his seat. 

"Tyler" Valli says and he turns to kiss her head. 

"Hey baby berry" 

He says and I can hear the affection in his voice, he likes his sister. 

"Good evening father" 

"Good evening Tyler" I'm surprised to hear the warmth in Mr. Knox's voice, I would have thought he would be a severe father just as his face declares but he's surprisingly warm. 

"How are you doing Bry? How's basketball practice going?" He asks his  son. 

"Good dad, there's a game on Thursday, you going to show up?" 

"Won't miss it for the world son" He says and Bryant beams, God, he's fine. 

Nobody acknowledges Candy and she doesn't seem to care, just keep swiping her phone. 

"Thank God" Claire breathes besides me and I frown. 

"What?" 

"He's not here today" She replies, the fear obvious in her voice. 

"Who?" Before I finish the question I hear footfalls and I follow the direction. 

Standing in front of me is a man, no part of him is a boy, I thought Mr. Knox is severe? This guy has the dictionary meaning of severe all over him. 

He looks.. He looks emotionless, he's so tall and so broad, he's... He's not human. 

How can someone look so cold? How? 

The only hint of personality he has is his white hair, his eyes are icicles, he has the good looks his family has but the only thing marring it is a scar that starts from his brow to the top of his eyes. 

The baffling thing is that his family stands up the moment he enters, with the exception of Mr. Knox

Even candy wobbles on her heels. 

His eyes take in everything and I shrink into myself. 

"Who's that?" I breath, my voice barely heard. 

"That's Xavier Knox, first son of Mr. Knox" Claire says, her voice wobbling. 

I don't respond, I watch as he takes his seat at the head of the table, the others seat after he does. 

Tyler is sitting straight and looking unbearably severe, Bryant looks constipated, even sweet Valli has stopped pressing her phone. 

I watch as he beckons a male server to pour his wine and its then I finally acknowledge the fact that I'm working at an exclusive place. 

I watch him some more and I feel pure fear run through me. 

This is a man I never want to meet, the darkness and pain in his eyes are like burnt out stars.
