Bosco's POV

Watching Sommy rub the cream on her lap awoke some feelings in me. I couldn't keep me eyes off her. She caught me staring and I tried looking away but there was no use. "Seen something you like" she asked, that was her second time flirting that evening. I laughed.
"You do know you're flirting right?" I asked and she chuckled laying in bed covering the sheet over her legs.
Her face was turned towards me, "Is there anything you can do about the hospital Bob is currently running?" She asked, I told her that there were a lot of things lawyers can do to help out. All we had to do is see the paper work.
The conversation changed and I started to wonder what drew me close to her. What made me start liking her.
At first she was annoying then she became annoyingly sweet.
"Geez! I wanted to kill you" I confess, "And now?" She asked and i moved close to her. That question felt as though it was a cue to kissing her.
"And now..." I stalled, "I want to kiss now and then. I just want you close to me" my nose nuzzled gently against hers.
"Bringing you here with me was just an excuse to be close to you" I further confessed and we kissed.
I placed my hands on her  waist, deepening my kiss.
She mounted on me, we continued kissing as my tongue flickered into her mouth.
I untied her robe then I slowly pulled it down.
She didn't have a bra on, I stared at her perky b**bs and how her n*pples were so perked up and I just couldn't wait to have it in my mouth.
Suddenly I felt a my m*nhood erect. It wasn't like the others. It was different this time, I saw her withdraw and I shook my head.
"Please don't stop" I begged, "Trust me, I don't want to stop either" she moved closer placing her two palm on both my cheeks.
"I really don't want to" she answered and i leaned in for a kiss.
"I've never felt this way with Isabel, not once" I confessed. We kissed again and she pulled back. "I'm sorry. I feel like I'm stuck in a reality show of cheaters" she  wore her robe then laid back in bed. Her back was turned at me.
"Good night Bosco, we have a long day tomorrow"

By the time I woke up the following day, Sommy had already dressed up in a blue jean and a black shirt tucked into the jean.
"Good morning" she greeted and i sat up feeling a bit weak. It was an effect from yesterday's disappointment. I've finally had a taste of wanting s*x and now I just can't wait to get it over with.
"Good morning" I answered.
I took my bath, we had breakfast and we entered into a mini-bus; sommy and I only, it was a quiet journey. The mini bus stopped by at a compound where we saw Peter talking to a lady.
"Thanks" he said to the woman and she walked off. "Good morning" I shook his hands, " Where is she?" I asked and he pointed to the compound. "They said she's slicing leaves at the backyard." Peter answered then Sommy and i walked into the compound. Peter stayed behind.
"I wonder what part of the backyard she might be" Sommy paused, the first conversation for the day.
"Let's just pass this way" i pointed and we walked through the backyard.
We heard indistinct chattering and laughter. Suddenly we saw two ladies slicing afang leaves.
One was sitted and the other whose back was faced at us sliced afang leaves opposite her.
The other who saw us, whispered something to the other and she turned back at us.
I heard her ask in out dialect who we were, if we were lost.
"Mary" i called out but no one answered. "I know you're there Mary. Don't pretend you can't hear me"
The lady whose face was turned against us stood up, her hair looked unkempt. "What are you guys looking for?" She asked in our dialect. "We're looking for you" I answered and she quickly pulled up a knife pointing it at us.
"Mary!" The other lady yelled.
"I wasn't the one who killed my husband so stop coming after me." "I'm not here to arrest you"
"What are you here for then?" She asked in English. "Mary I've been looking for you for years now"
"Why? Who are you?"
"Remember that day there was no food to eat and we ate the leftovers from the previous day. Suddenly dad came in with a big white chicken and we had to " i explained almost in tears.
"It was on your birthday. Senior Bosco!" She screamed then rushed  pressing a tight hug against me.
I almost suffocated. I didn't expect a warm welcome. The hug brought me to tears. "We thought we lost you forever"
"I thought the same" I answered and she turned over to Sommy. "How did you find me?" "I hired someone to find you"
"Our wife?" She asked in our dialect and I shook my head laughing. "No," "Girlfriend?"
"No..."
"What's going on?" Sommy asked, "You don't understand our language?" Mary asked in English and sommy shook her head. "I don't. Can someone please get an interpreter for me" she said pinching me and I laughed hard. "I was asking if you're both married. But he said no"
"No!" Sommy screamed. "He's engaged with someone else"
"Oh" Mary answered with a pause. Suddenly she hugged me again. "Why were you scared?" I asked, "I thought you guys was. ..were" she corrected, "Or is it was?" She paused chuckling.
"Whether was or not, it doesn't matter. English is not our language anyway" Sommy replied and she laughed.
" I thought you are policemen. They want to arrest me for killing my husband because I ran from home. I've been hiding since"
"You didn't"
"I didn't" she moved even more closer to me scratching her hair. "Brother, Senior killed him" she answered and i nodded. Of course I knew already.
"I know" i answered. My mood suddenly changed at news of Mark being responsible for killing Mary's husband.
"Didn't you run from home because of another man?" I asked, "Is that the news they're spreading?" Mary asked then she scoff.
"That idiot they forced me to get married to, that dog would beat me everyday in front of my children. He would force me to do things don't want to do." She paused then busted back in ibibio. "The family didn't even care if I die or not!"
"So there weren't other men?" I asked and she kept quiet.

Sommy's POV
"So there weren't other men?" Bosco asked and she kept quiet.
This was where I had to come in. "It's okay" i blinked at him signaling him to give her space then I held Mary by the arm, she didn't want to talk.
There have obviously been other men but for reasons best known to her, she felt ashame to open up. "Can you leave us alone?" I begged Bosco but he seemed adamant.
"I have a lot of things I want to ask her. James for example"
"She's not going anywhere" I answered and he left. I turned over at Mary who was already seated.
"What happened to you?" I asked sitting close to her. She raised the tray she used in slicing the leave putting it on another stool.
"I couldn't help but notice the silence when Bosco asked about other men. He meant if you've been married again but you actually didn't view it that way. There have been other men right? Not even husbands" I asked and she nodded.
"I have to survive and in this cruel world, you have to scratch a lot of dirty backs. James helps out with money as a guy by doing small jobs and as a sales boy but I as a woman, I've been sleeping around to help myself out. My children needs to pay their fees and I have to work for it. People say I'm a witch and  so they refuse giving me jobs but they would rather sleep with me. There's no landlord I haven't slept with to stay in his house, now I leave with my friend since I left the other place when this man made me run away. This world has been harsh for every one of us after dad died." She paused in tears.
"I thought Senior Bosco was dead. They said he was dead, they came back announcing that he was dead that was before news started spreading about who those people were"
She said but I was lost, I didn't understand what she was saying. "What do you mean?"
"Those people who took Senior Bosco away. They are from our village, they are those people who take children to go and sell in Lagos"
"Human traffickers" I blurted out and she nodded, "Mom committed suicide because of it... After I confronted her about it. Do you how many children they've taken?" She asked and I held her hands squeezing it softly.
"I guess Bosco had luck on his side. How old were you when you got married?" I asked a bit curious, "I was fifteen, in my Jss3 when I was married out. At the age of sixteen, I had my first child"
I sighed, at how complicated the issue was. There were more than a hundred factors that can actually traumatize her.
A girl dressed in a uniform walked towards us. She held her school bag close by. She had a sad look on her face.
"Good morning Mommy, good morning Ma" she greeted me then looked over at her mom.
"The proprietor didn't even hear me out, he said until I sleep with him, he won't let me into the school. I slapped him and I left. As it is now, I've been expelled and I don't regret it. The only thing I regret is not giving him a second slap" she snapped walking in and I saw Mary shake her head . "Veronica!" She yelled but she paid no attention to her.
I had no idea who the girl was, but I loved her spirit. She reminded me of myself at her age.
"Your daughter?" I asked and she nodded.
"She's very stubborn"
"That's the kind of spirit you need to survive in this world" I said with a chuckle. "You just heard her, she has been expelled"
"It doesn't matter, that should be the least of your problems.  Your life and your children's life is about to change for good" I answered tapping her shoulder and she creased her brow confusedly. She had no idea who Bosco had become.
"How do you mean?" She asked.

Mary escorted me out of the compound where we saw Peter who was sitting on a stone. "This is the man that made me run away" she pointed at Peter who stood up with his hands akimbo. "He's Bosco's private investigator. He was paid to find you"
"I'm sorry I ran away" she apologized. I noticed Peter stay back. "I thought you were a policeman" she added. She felt bad when he moved back.
I saw her smell herself. "It's not you" he answered, "I'm used to been treated that way"
I looked at the two of them closely.
"Where is Bosco?" I asked and he pointed at the mini bus. " He wanted sometime alone"
I entered into the bus when I found Bosco crying. He immediately cleaned his tears the moment he saw me walk in.
"It's not a crime to cry" I said and he gave a faint chuckle.
"I was just thinking. What did she say?" he asked and I diplomatically told him all Mary had gone through. He had more tears in his eyes.
"I could have found them earlier" he added and I advised him not to blame himself.
"None of this is your fault"
Then it dawned on me to initiate a topic particularly on how he left Uyo and his trip to Lagos. I realize I haven't actually insisted on it.
Perhaps I didn't want to hurt him.
"Who took you to Lagos?" I asked, "A man who came to spend some time with Mom. She said he was an uncle. They had s*x everyday" he  revealed.
"Mom then made the big announcement to me that I would be leaving with him to Lagos so I can get a better life"
"What happened next?" I asked, "I don't remember" he answered leisurely.
"Have you ever tried to remember? What happened in the bus?"
"I have no idea and frankly I've grown not to care anymore" "psychologically, personally trying to forget is wrong. It leads has impact, mostly negative!"
"I don't want to remember!" He exclaimed wildly. "I had nightmares okay? What happened was very bad. I know cause I felt the pain as a kid during my first therapy." He cried.
"I can't go through that again Sommy. Please don't force me to" he begged and I heaved a troubled sigh. I know the effects of defense mechanisms. They're like drugs, you take them in excess and you'll have your liver damaged. In his own case, I wondered what has been damaged?
