Crime To Love - Episode 14

 

Cyril had now regained consciousness after the fourth day. Opening his eyes he couldn’t believe what he saw; the same girl who sent him out of her room days back sits right on his sick bed waiting for his recovery. He looked at the situation speechless and happy within him but refused showing his happiness. He only changed his sleeping position so that Jennifer and Chizoba know that he was aware of their presence.

Jennifer was very delighted smiles written all over her face seeing Cyril shake on the bed, Cyril after a while slowly opened his eyes looking so weak and acting helpless, with heart full of joy, She knelt down and raised up her two hands thanking God for healing Cyril for her for anyone who saw Cyril condition the previous day will only pray for the miracle of God to befall him . Cyril was happy seeing Jennifer dramatize; Chizoba was just sitting down smiling. Just as if the doctor knew that Cyril had regained consciousness, he entered the ward with his co-workers and asked Jennifer and Chizoba to excuse them for a while.

Chike was now happy that his sister and her friend were around to stay in the hospital taking care of Cyril his friend as he goes to take care of his day to day engagements.

Chike begged Jennifer and Chizoba to do a favour to him which was to stay with Cyril in the hospital. Jennifer and Chizoba were very much surprised because they never knew that Chike would even handle the situation in such a calm manner.

. Jennifer told Chizoba that it was not Chike that was acting because her brother, Chike, hated seeing her in the company of boys not even his own friends.

Chizoba laughed and reminded Jennifer of their secondary school days when Chike beat hell out of Chinedu their classmate for always following Jennifer up and down. That made them give him those days a mocking name;“MTN EVERYWHERE YO GO”. The two friends laughed so loud as the memory came flashing in their mind that they forgot they were in the hospital thereby attracting the attention of the nurses that warned them to minimize the noise for they were disturbing the patients.
Jennifer had called Chike giving him the good news of Cyril’s recovery from coma, Chike arrived at the hospital with his friends. They were all filled with joy for their one and only CY had come back to life. They didn’t even recognize the presence of Jennifer and Chizoba until they reached the hospital door. The four of them entered the ward but were asked by the doctor to wait outside for he was attending to the patients. They came outside and then saw Chizoba and Jennifer who were calling them on their arrival at the hospital but they couldn’t answer the calls. Chike asked the two friends to get home and prepare something for Cyril, Paul dipped his hands into his pocket and brought out one thousand naira notes and handed them to the girls. The two friends left the hospital in the twinkling of an eye to prepare a delicious meal for the recovered Cyril.

Inside the kitchen Jennifer and Chizoba were running around to make sure everything got ready before the next one hour.  They were busy when Jennifer’s mother entered the kitchen and queried Jennifer on why she had come down all the way from Filey just because she heard of Cyril’s accident.
“Jennifer tell me, why have you just come down from Ebonyi because of Cyril’s accident? I am your mother and I do not want to believe in what my mind is telling me,”
“Mum I have told you time without number that Cyril only came for a program in our school that day he had the accident; When the news came to our school every person was looking up on Chizoba and me to know our reaction because all the students thought Cyril was our brother due to the way he identified with us and also treated us during the program; Mum I’m tired of this your suspicion, what are you even thinking by the way?”
“Anyway I only want to know, because you know how your elder brother Chike behaves if he sees any boy with you”

The mother left the kitchen unsatisfied for his face tells it all that she is aware of her daughter’s emotional attachment towards Cyril his son’s best son. Her fear only is that she knows her son and knows how jealous he gets seeing his friends around Jennifer which she has in so many occasions tried talking him out of such attitude but he don’t even give chance for the deep discussion and counseling. She was not being so curious of Jennifer’s latest act because maybe she is not in support of her in her emotional decision but she wanted to counsel her daughter on the way she should follow her mind but Jennifer has refused admitting an obvious truth. So she decided to let the sleeping dog lie.
